Chapter 93

Logan pushed the door back and was shocked to see a lady in the room. She was dressed in the customary black and white outfit made especially for maids. She was bent over his study table like she had been trying to reach behind it.

“Who are you?” Logan demanded as he eyes the intruder.

“Sirr I… I… I’m,” she stuttered.

“Speak up!” Logan ordered. “Who are you? And what are you doing in this room, going through my things?!” He spat as he stalked her, making sure he was directly in her path, there would be no escaping for her.

“Em… actually… the thing is…” She stuttered again, her feet guiding her as she backed away from Logan, her eyes never leaving his like if she dared to blink, he’d strike.

“I asked you a simple fucking question!” He yelled. Logan lunged for her and gripped her neck. Her body shook with fear but Logan was passed giving her the benefit of the doubt. He squeezed her neck till he could feel her vein pulsating against his finger causing him to he tighten his grip.

The lady eyes squeezed shut, tears spilled from the side of her eyes as she choked on air. Her arms flailed as she tried to grab at his shirt, face, anything that she could hold on to for support.

“Now,” he began as he swueeezed yet again to better get his message across, “what were you doing in here when I wasn’t?!” He asked, his eyes dared her to lie. “Who sent you?” He added when she didn’t respond.

She slammed her lips shut and a dark chuckle rumbled in his chest. Okay, if she was going to be that way. He had just about reached his tipping point, about to slam her head against the wall just enough to cause pain but not enough to kill the fragile thing.

His door slammed against the wall and his attention snapped in the direction of the sound. Joanne stood by the doorway, her eyes wide with horror, her jaw slackened and her mouth wide open as she started in shock. Her surprised to see them in such a state was nothing compared to the pain that ran through her at the possibilities.

Logan had been keeping almost everything a secret from her so she could only imagine in horror what this was about. “What’s going on here?” Joanne asked, afraid he was actually going to answer this time because she was sure she was not going to like what the response would most likely be.

Logan released the maid and turned to Joanne, “Nothing.” He said but his eyes still watched the maid. She coughed hysterically, fighting for the very air that was given freely to all. She regained her composure and walked away from the room, leaving Joanne and Logan alone, only grateful to be given another chance at life.

“What do you mean nothing? You just had your hand around a maid’s throat and you say it’s nothing?” Joanne argued as she closed the distance between them.

Logan grabbed his wallet from the first drawer of his study desk and walked out of the room, leaving a gasping Joanne behind. He was not going to deal with that today.

Joanne stood there, in the centre of the room, stunned to silence at his reaction.

She felt uncomfortable, unsafe and unsatisfied with what she was given by Logan. She needed to know what exactly was happening and she was going to find out exactly what was going on.

She called the maid back and she appeared back in the room only seconds later.

“You sent got me ma’am.” She bowed her head.

“Yes, I would like to know what happened here before I walked in.” Joanne said, her voice calm and authoritative, her nerves everywhere and anywhere.

The maid tensed, her mouth refusing to produce sounds at first.

Joanne got mad at her refusal to speak. Delay or blatant refusal? It was the same thing and she wasn’t having it.

“I swear if you do not start speaking this very moment, I might have to finish what Logan started and I won’t chose a painless method.” Joanne threatened, her patience slipping with each word.

“It was Wade!” She rushed, waving her hands in surrender, “It was Wade ma’am. He suspects Logan is hiding something and so asked me to help find out what it is when he isn’t around.” She explained.

Joanne narrowed her eyes at her and the maid flinched backwards, “I swear it ma’am, that’s all. I was simply doing what Wade asked me to.” She repeated.

Joanne nodded at her. She believed her.

“Alright then. Fetch me Wade. Now. Tell him it’s urgent and he should not waste my time.” Joanne ordered and dismissed her.

The maid squeaked and rushed off and out of the room.

Moments later, Wade walked through the open door to a waiting Joanne. Her patience has worn thin and she immediately rushed at him the moment he was through the door.

“Why would you send a maid to snoop through Logan’s room, Wade?” She demanded an answer as her eyes pinned him to the spot he stood.

Wade paled. “How do you know that?”

“The maid, but that doesn’t answer my question and you know better than to answer my question with a question.” She glared at him.

“I know what it sounds like but he’s hiding something and I’m sure of it.” He immediately explained. “I have proof!” He hurriedly added as his gaze locked with her angry stare.

He pulled out his phone and handed it to her. “Here. I got this days ago.”

Joanne collected the phone from him. A clip of Logan receiving a parcel came up and her curiousity peaked. Next she Logan walk away from the door and look directly at her, at the camera.

She was shocked.

“It may not be what it looks like. Have you tried talking to him about it?” She asked Wade.

“Nope. Too risky. If he was actually involved with something traitorous, asking him directly immediately let’s him know we’re on to him.”

“So what then? Keep sending maids?” Joanne asked.

“Of course not! I have a plan.” Wade affirmed.
