Laura.
Sabrina sighed and started to explain, “It’s true that Mom and Dad were supposed to name me after grandma Laura. But things happened. A group of rogues attacked Mom and Dad on their way home. Mom can’t fight because she is in a family way. You know how protective Dad is to Mom. He would die for her. Dad was in a bad shape when help came. A certain Sabrina Collins from the neighboring pack, helped them fight the rogues and even helped Mom while giving birth to me.” She smiled with pride. She seemed to be watching a scene from the past.
“Yeah, I was born in the middle of the forest. Luckily, Sabrina Collins was there to help Mom. It’s not easy to give birth in the wolf form and push out a pup in the middle of the cold night. Mom said that Sabrina was amazed after seeing me as a beautiful white wolf.”
White wolf?
White wolves are considered one of the best. Not only was her birth unusual but her wolf is special. And we all know that white wolves are super strong!
Gosh! Probably, when Saskia told me I was favored by the moon, she meant Sabrina.
Sabrina Morton’s reflection is the one that Saskia saw from the sacred lagoon! That was not me!
“Sabrina Collins told Mom that I will become a special she-wolf that will start a new legacy. That’s why when another rogue came to attack us, Sabrina did everything to protect me. When the help from Remus Pack came, it was too late for Sabrina Collins, she…” She ended the story with a gloomy face. She could not even mention what happened to Sabrina Collins. But I can read between the lines.
I could tell how hard Sabrina fought her tears back. I could feel her regrets and sorrow. But I could also sense the fierceness in her.
And from there, I think I already knew how her name ended up as Sabrina. It’s to honor the one who protects the baby Sabrina with her own life.
“You’re right. Mom decided to change the original plan. That’s why I ended up being Sabrina, not Laura.” Sabrina let out a deep, heavy breath. “Now, tell me. Am I still not supposed to exist?”
I felt heavy in my chest. Sabrina was right, with everything that she had, she was probably the best choice to exist.
Upon hearing her story, I already knew she would become the pride of our pack. I might have been the one who made way for her to earn those special abilities but still…
She was not me.
I was not her.
I was still a loser after everything I had done.
Sabrina the best version of myself, while I became…
No one.
And was that why Saskia told Sabrina the same thing she told m before? Because Sabrina already replaced me?
“L-Laura, please don’t think that way. I am starting to feel bad that I existed.” Her voice was filled with regrets and sorrow.
I shook my head as I turned to her. My eyes burned with tears.
“You don’t have to feel bad. I am actually proud that I changed the fate of our parent’s daughter. They don’t have to face humiliation anymore. I am certain Alaric will treat you the best way possible since you have the special wolf. You even said that she ignored Ivy,” I was trying to confirm if I guessed it right.
“He did,” she answered enthusiastically. I can tell how happy she was with Alaric.
“In two weeks' time, our union ceremony will be held.”
I fought back my tears and tried to give her a smile.
“Congratulations, then. Please do well and take care of our parents.”
She had a better life than I had before. That meant everything had changed already.
And I was not included in those changes anymore.
I honestly didn’t know what to feel right then. I should have been happy I didn’t fail my parents. But that also meant I would not be able to be their daughter anymore. They already had a new one—with a better fate than mine.
I should be happy, right? My parents don’t have to suffer.
But the big question was: what would happen to me? Where should I place myself now? Was I still a part of Remus Pack? Or would hey finally kick me out once they found out about me?
Ugh! I needed to talk to Saskia.
I quickly turned away and left the room before Sabrina could say anything.
I sneaked out to the forest and went straight to Saskia’s house. She quickly let me in.
“Sas…” My eyes grew misty once more.
She guided me to the couch and prepared the same tea she used to give me. It aimed to calm down. But at the moment, I didn’t know if her tea would be effective.
In the situation I had, nothing could ever calm me down.
“Did you see the results of your doing? I already warned you.” Her voice held a hint of apprehension.
“But it was just the date that I changed. I mean, I just hasten the date I was conceived. I picked the best full moon of my choice. It doesn’t occur to me that it will cause me to create a new version of myself.”
Saskia couldn’t help but roll her eyes. “Of course it would. I already told you that it will be tricky to mess with the time so you better be careful with your actions. What are you going to do now that you are bound to cease to exist?”
“What?” I was struck dumb with surprise. “What do you mean I will cease to exist? I am still here in front of you,” I argued.
“You are right, but sooner you will become invisible to the eyes of everyone who knows and loves you. Until you vanish without anyone noticing it. Because you already didn’t belong to anyone or anywhere. You are practically borrowing someone else's life temporarily.”
