Laura.
“What do you mean?” Sabrina’s eyes scanned me.
And I started to scan her also. Looking back at her, I seemed to be looking at the mirror, to my own reflection.
But when my eyes locked with hers, I realized there was still a big difference. Her eyes were fiercely looking at me.
Is this what Saskia of the past was talking about? Does this mean the reflection that Saskia saw from the sacred lagoon wasn’t really me?
But… but what is going to happen to me if another me has been born?
“You are me, I am you. That’s what I mean.”
And that was the best explanation that I had in mind right after knowing about Sabrina.
“Are you crazy? How was that possible? Unless…” She stopped mid-sentence while looking straight into my eyes.
“Unless what? Say it.”
“Unless you are my doppelganger who wants to replace me.”
Replace her? Isn't she the one who had replaced me?
I wanted to tell her that but I fought back myself.
I shouldn’t be taking my frustrations to her.
“No, I am not trying to replace you because I actually exist. I am me, Laura. The beta’s daughter.” I fiercely answered. I will never lose to myself.
Sabrina was silent for a moment as she looked at me with a lot of emotions mirroring in her eyes.
I decided to ignore her and roam my eyes around the whole room. My eyes saw the digital calendar sitting above the bedside table. It shows the same date I went to Saskia and requested for the portal. That means I am in my present.
“H-How old are you now?” I decided to ask, hoping it would help me figure things out.
“Twenty.”
Twenty… Sabrina was twenty. That meant my plan succeeded. Yet, how come another person had been born? I was supposed to be born at that time, not Sabrina!
Watching her, I knew in my heart we were totally different people.
We may have shared the same face, same color of the eyes, same scent… but we were totally different. Yet, I still refused to accept that. Mom and Dad could only have one daughter. If Sabrina existed already, then what about me? What is going to happen to me?
I forced myself to calm down. I tried hard to focus.
“D-Do you have a wolf?”
Sabrina knotted her forehead. “Of course. Isn’t that the reason why you traveled back in time? To make sure that Mom will give birth to a special wolf. And that was what happened.”
I was dumbfounded to hear that. She was as if implying that she had become a special she-wolf.
“I was born in my wolf form.”
That dumbfounded me once more.
It said that it was rare to be born in your wolf form but… she did?
“Everyone treated me better for being special. Even my skills and abilities are way better than the others. That’s why after Alaric found out that we were mates—”
“What? Did you accept him?” I cut her in. “He was such an asshole, you should have rejected him!”
“What?!” Sabrina gave me an unbelievable look. “What are you saying? I could not do that to the future Alpha. It will weaken him!”
Yeah, but he didn't care about it when he rejected me.
“He what? He rejected you?”
Sabrina twitched her brows into a deep frown.
“How is that possible? I am his mate! Saskia even told me that I am favored by the moon.”
And she even knew Saskia!
“Yeah, of course. She has become my guardian.” Sabrina once more answered my thoughts.
I trembled in shock upon realizing what was going on.
“You can hear my thoughts too?”
Sabrina nodded with pride. “That, and a lot more. I already told you that I was born in my wolf form. That is something special already. My abilities showed earlier than expected and it strengthened as I grew older. At eighteen, my abilities are fully enhanced.”
Gosh!
I could not believe it! The rarest golden full moon really was amazing for blessing her with all of that.
Was that why Alaric and the whole pack are treating her well? Was that why Alaric did not cheat on her with Ivy anymore?
Sabrina raised an eyebrow. “Cheating with Ivy?”
I secretly rolled my eyes.
There she went, reading my thoughts again.
“He would not dare to. Ivy tried all the tricks but Alaric never gave in. From the moment I was born, he already knew I was his mate. He even told me on my eighteenth birthday that she already met me when he was a little kid.”
I gasped loudly upon hearing that. Sabrina stopped talking and gave way to me.
“Well, that person was me. You already know that I traveled back in time.” I shrugged.
“But that was confusing. If you are the one he met back then, how come I was his mate?”
“He already rejected me when I traveled back in time. I don’t know how he recognized me. Maybe because the rejection was still fresh, the binding wasn’t fully cut.”
“That was not what I am talking about.” Sabrina looked troubled.
She held both by shoulders and tried to lock my eyes with her, aiming me to understand every word she would say.
“If you are the person he met and recognized as his mate, then how come I was his mate too? We can’t be one. That’s not possible!”
That made sense. If we were one, then, it was not possible for us to exist both.
“You said you are not Laura. You are Sabrina.”
“Exactly,” she quickly answered.
“But Mom and Dad were supposed to name their daughter, Laura,” I argued.
Sabrina’s lips tightened, then gave me a hostile glare.
“And what was that supposed to mean? That you, Laura, were the one who was supposed to exist and not me?”
I didn’t answer her. I was confused. I was just saying what I knew.
“If you were confused and the only thing that keeps you holding is the petty issue about the name, then I will tell you how I ended up becoming Sabrina.”
My anticipation grew stronger as I waited for her explanation. Something went wrong. That was why everything was a mess. And I needed to figure out how I should fix it.
