Chapter 9

Tyler tried all he could to get my attention, to get me to talk, or at least say a word to him but I wasn't having it.

Seeing him stand before me alone kept sending hot blood flowing through my veins, I was boiling with anger so bad.

How dare he come here acting all so concerned. Like he cares?!

Did he not just call his mistress to come over, wasting no time in replacing me?!

He's wanted me out of his life bad so why the fuck was here?!

These thoughts and more kept flowing through my head as I laid down there kept my hard gaze at my worst nightmare - Tyler.

I had told Ann earlier even though deep within me, I had doubts on him coming but should he come, I didn't want to see, talk more of having a conversation with him.

It was funny though.

Seeing Tyler like this, all caring, concerned.. about me?

Felt like a movie.

Tyler's voice finally broke the brief silence that had taken over the room post my miscarriage announcement.

“Look Sam.. I..I know I messed up, I know to you, I'm a devil.. but.. but..” He trailed off.

I rolled my eyes and looked away from him. The first action aside from my firm gaze at him, I'd do since he came in.

“You don't have a point Ty.” Ann's voice was sharp.

She knew I wasn't going to say a word to him and was getting tired of the whole drama. “I think it's best if you leave. You wanted a divorce, you got it and thank goodness my friend doesn't have any ties to you anymore. So, enjoy.”

Ann didn't take my gaze away from him.. the expression on her face was like expecting him to just turn around and leave.

Tyler bit his lower lip in frustration, he was obviously now restless.

“Sam, I…” he started but I didn't let him finish.

“Get the fuck out of here!” I spat, it was close to screaming.

I couldn't hold it anymore, it was getting too much.. I just wanted the animal out of my damn sight! I could have done this from the moment he came home but I had to take enough time to gather my strength.

“Please leave” I added. “Tyler please leave here.. Ann, please get him out of here, I have had enough.”

The drugs the doctors have been administering were finally working.. I was glad, perfect timing.

“You heard her,” Ann said as he moved closer to Tyler. “Get out.” she added, gesturing towards the door.

Tyler's face was blank, expressionless.. he took a deep breath as he started retreating backwards, still facing us.

He paused at the door staring directly at me.

I would have flinched, normally, I would have.

But I didn't feel nothing now.. the pain, anger, hurt, I let them flow. I didn't hold them back like I used to.. I stared right back at home, firm and hard.

I thought he was going to say something else, I was more than ready to reply to him but he didn't.. he simply took another deep sigh, turned around and left.

Ann didn't waste time in shutting the door immediately behind him.

“Piece of sh!t” She murmured as she walked back towards me.

“Hey sweetheart.. looks like you're getting better” She said, taking back her position on the chair she was seated before Tyler came in.

I quickly looked away from her as I stylishly wiped away the little tears that had gathered in my eyes.. “Yeah, I guess”

Ann scoffed. “You're crying?.. Please say no.”

I rolled my eyes, fighting back the tears that seem to uncontrollably keep gathering in my eyes.

“No.. I'm.. I'm not crying Ann.. I'm not”

Ann swallowed. “Hey Sam, please don't piss me off. You're crying coz of that fuckin animal?! He doesn't deserve it girl.. can't you see??”

My voice trembled as I spoke. “I can't just turn off my feelings Ann, I love him.”

“You loved him,” Ann corrected. “Past tense. That’s what you have to do. Let it go. He’s not worth it, Sam.”

I sniffled, fresh tears spilling down my face. “I know. I just… I just don’t know how.”

Ann moved to sit on the edge of the bed, placing a gentle hand on my arm.

“It’s not easy. But you have to. For your own sake. For our sake.”

I nodded gently as I tightened my grip on my best friend's arm. At least I have her.. it won't be easy but I'll get through this.

“Speaking of which Sam.. remember I said I had something important to tell you?” Ann said, a warm smile taking over her face.

“I remember,” I whispered. “What is it, Ann?”

“Well it's goodnewssss.. guess” The smile on her face had expanded now, exposing her pretty set of white teeth.

A little smile played on the corner of my lips.

“Ann please spill it.. I'm dead curious”

“Oh, come on, Sam! Just take a wild guess!” Ann teased, her smile now so wide that it looked as if her cheeks were going to burst. “It’s good news, I promise!”

I shook my head, already feeling like I was gon’ die of curiosity. “You know I’m terrible at guessing games. Just tell me, Ann. What is it?”

Ann feigned annoyance. “Fine, fine.” She agreed. “First, when was the last time you checked your email?”

I let out a breath I didn't even know I was holding. “Email? I've not checked since the last time I was at your place.. I rarely check it. What's up Ann? Enough of the suspense pleaseee”

“Well,” Ann began, “I was going to use my computer and I noticed you hadn’t logged out of your email. And there was this little notification in the corner…”

I raised an eyebrow, curiosity growing. “And?”

Ann giggled, unable to contain her excitement.

“It was an email from RINDERS GROUP. And it said…” Ann paused for dramatic effect, my pulse was seriously racing. “CONGRATULATIONS! You’ve been accepted into the RINDERS GROUP.”

My heart skipped. I was too stunned to speak for a moment, Ann's wide smile remained on her face as she kept her gaze on me.

Had I misheard? I got accepted to RINDERS GROUP?

“No way!” I didn't know when the words escaped my lips, my jaw dropping. “I… I applied there months ago. But I didn't think I had a chance in hell of getting in!”

Ann grinned, positively beaming. “Well, guess what, girlfriend? You did! And you’re going to be working at one of the most prestigious design firms in London!”

My heart raced as the news sank in.
