Chapter 45

Daisy was unsure about everything now; her paintings in the gallery were all sold for very high commissions, her business now had several prominent customers. She decided that she would need help because she also knew that she was pregnant.

She hadn’t told anyone yet; she thought Noah knew or suspected. Just from his behavior around her, she had to come up here to her room because he was hovering around her so much.

Sitting down and looking out the window at the gardens outside, she felt like she was living in the center of a tornado. She wasn’t unhappy, nor did she think she wanted it to stop; she just needed to catch her breath.

She had been entertaining a thought, though, and she wasn’t sure if it would be received well by the others, but she decided that she would talk it over with Noah and her father to gain their opinions.

Now that she was pregnant, she was giddy with excitement and trepidation, mainly because it was all into unknown territory for her and Noah. So many questions needed answers, and she wasn’t sure if there was anyone who could give her the information she needed because this was uncharted territory.

Granted, women had babies every day, and that part never scared her, and she wanted children. It was all the other uncertainties that were surrounding her that were making her take pause.

She wasn’t sure how long she would carry them or what birthing would be like because of other possible genetics. She smiled at having a son like Noah; the whole vampire and shifter possibilities didn’t bother her. She just wanted them to be healthy.

The most important thing on her mind was how the vampire and shifter communities would take their children? Will it put her children in danger? Will it cause them to become isolated and alone because they will not be accepted? Were they always going to have to look over their shoulders for those who would want to hurt or kill them?

There were all kinds of possibilities running through her mind.

Right now, she wished that she could talk with her mom. She knew that all she had to do was call Noah to her, but there was something about needing your mom at times like this that a mate couldn’t fulfill.

Perhaps, Enid will help her when she returns from her little trip to the market. She giggled at the thought of Garret’s face when Enid said yes. She hoped they would get together, Enid deserved some happiness, and although she was just getting to know Garret, she suspected he did too.

She looked over at the opposite side of the room where her ball gown was hanging. The ball had been called off again; she hoped she would still fit into it when it was finally back on again.

Noah could feel the emotions going around and around in his mate’s mind, and he knew that when she went up to their room, she wanted some alone time.

He and Raja both were a little worried about how fast things were going for them; he was a shifter and had all kinds of knowledge about this world. Daisy was just getting started and had to learn as she went, sort of a trial by fire.

He sensed that she wasn’t giving up or panicking that she just needed a little time alone to sort through all the things that had happened, are happening, and might happen in the future.

They decided to let her have some time alone for a little while, and then he and Raja were going to be with her; the last thing he wanted was for Daisy to feel isolated because she was so different than everyone else.

Understanding was not the problem, nor was acceptance. The problem was the speed it was coming at them; he was even feeling a bit overwhelmed and had some fear for their future.

He knew that if things got out of hand, he would like his family away from all this and raise them someplace where this world would not touch them.

They both shared a constant fear, but Noah was determined not to let it be a lingering problem. He had put things in motion when he found out they were pregnant, and he will put even more in place by the time the triplets were born, Vampire and shifter worlds be damned.

He decided that his darling mate had had enough time alone, and he would go and discuss all of what he had done to secure their future and the lives of their children. Perhaps, it will put her at ease once and give her some peace of mind.

Casper Martin sat in his office relaxing. It was nice to be alone in the quiet solitude away from his harpy wife and disgraced daughter. Perhaps he should suggest that Tabitha and himself should be separated for a time, like little vacations away from each other.

There would never be a divorce, though; that was too scandalous and would mark their family name. Of course, that didn’t mean that Casper was faithful to his wife, nor was his wife faithful to him. They both had their little side affairs going.

He married Tabitha for her money, and she married him for his family’s name and power. There was never any love between them other than what it took to have Alissa. They were never in love or even, for that matter, like.

Their marital relationship could be described, he guessed, as civil. There wasn’t any hate between them, and they could put on a unified front when needed, but they didn’t have much in common, nor did they wish to.

As far as their affairs go, he was sure that Tabitha had had well into the hundreds by now she liked the variety in everything. He had only one long-time affair before he married Tabitha; it was Lucy, his governess from when he was a boy; they fell in love when he was 12.

Tabitha had found out about it on their wedding night when he called out Lucy’s name in his climax, she was sickened by it and only allowed him to touch her till she became pregnant, and then their sex life was over.

He was long lost in the thought of Lucy’s lush body when he heard a rustling noise from behind him, he turned to look, and there stood a cloaked figure; he recognized the cloak as belonging to Tabitha.

Feeling a bit cheated by the loss of his alone time, he wasn’t too happy to see her here. Lucy was upstairs getting ready for their night together, and he didn’t want Tabitha to ruin it.

“I thought that you were staying at the castle?”

She just stood in the shadows of the room. She was silent, which sent up a red flag for Casper. One thing that Tabitha was not was silent.

“Well, are you going to answer me? Why are you here?”

It was starting to feel strange in the room, and a slight chill went up to his spine as she remained silent. Then finally, she answered in a whisper…

“I am hungry.”

The Wraith stood outside the idiot’s cell; the drugs had worked well on the guards and the idiot; the Wraith almost felt like he was doing his race a favor by getting rid of this idiot before he could inflict his offspring onto the world.

He opened the door and grabbed Raymond by his feet, dragging him down the hall to the secret entrance he had made for this occasion. He had to bump up his schedule by a day because of what happened to the female; the guards had discovered what was left and went to alert the king.

They never arrived, though, which did concern him a little. He thought that the king was giving him a little time to make his move before he had to come down and take care of things.

Besides, the king had cut off all his routes into the rest of the castle; the idiot was the only plaything he had left. He looked back at Raymond’s face even in his sleep; he looked like an idiot. He found it amazing that Raymond was smart enough to come up with the Elixir, but he guessed it was like that old saying, even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while.

*****************

Raymond woke up feeling the air all over his body; what the hell? He was naked. Is this some new form of punishment from the king?

He tried to move off the table he was lying on but couldn’t; he couldn’t see any physical restraints, but when he tried to push his hands, they were stuck in place. He looked around at his surroundings. It was something straight out of an ancient torture chamber.

Holy crap, was that an iron maiden? Then, he heard giggles coming from the other side of the room; he knew instantly who was doing the giggling.

“Blane!!!!”

“Let me out of here, you asshole! It won’t be long before they discover that I am no longer in my cell, and they will catch us both, you jerk; let me go!”

The giggles turned into laughter, and then it was silence once again. The only sound was the sound of dripping water in the distance. Raymond waited, but there wasn’t even a whisper of a reply to his order.

Then in a quiet condescending voice, the Wraith answered him.

“Do you honestly think that you will never see the light of day again? I knew you were a slow learner, but you are not even that are you? You are more like village idiot smart.”

“Still, stupid can be fun too. Let’s find out. After all, I do like a good challenge now and then.”

“Firstly though, let me tell you a story about a moron who thought he was smart enough to make an ancient elixir for eternal youth. Only the moron didn’t take the time to read the whole of the text and didn’t know that he had to obtain the blood from a willing donor for it to work.”

“Not only that, but he also knew that there would be side effects, and boy, let me tell you. They were some pretty big ones, not the kind you hear on all those drug commercials.”

“We are not talking about addiction, diarrhea, constipation, or insomnia. Not even rashes. You had to go big and make the ultimate side effect; you made demons.”

“Now, it is time that you pay for your stupidity, not that we are seeking to cure it. No, we will make it a painful experience that will end in your death.”

“Your monument will be momentous in its creation and a testament to not what to do.”

The slow dripping sound in the distance was becoming louder, and he could feel that it was dripping on him now, right on his penis. The burning started as he screamed.

You really should appreciate the effort I put into making this. Your dick is so tiny that I had to go and buy precision instruments just to adjust the dropper.
