Chapter 96 Hungry mommy
"...What do you mean your water just broke!", Miss Gina Santoro asked Isabella over the phone.
"I just said it did!
You know!
When water spills from your leg!", Isabella explained sarcastically.
"Haha! Funny! Like I don't know what it means!
But it isn't your due date yet!", Miss Gina exclaimed trying to make sense of the situation.
She had stepped out to go to the market, They already planned a very nice lunch idea.
You could say they were that close since Miss Gina, Isabella's doula moved in a few weeks before.
She was halfway through her shopping when Isabella quickly called to alert her of the emergency.
"Oh my God! What do I do!?!", Isabella asked over the phone as she stared at the amniotic liquid on her apartment floor.
"Well well! I don't see the calmness you promised to have when the water breaks!", Miss Gina teased, already in the cab and on her way back to the apartment.
"Trying to be funny now I see!", Isabella said, tasting the same amount of sarcasm from Miss Gina.
"Okay! Fine!
Thank God the bags are packed! We don't need to start rushing about that now!
How do you feel!?", Miss Gina asked, trying to see if she could get Isabella to take a warm shower.
That might put her at ease before they left for the hospital.
"My water just broke!", Isabella repeated, not answering the question.
"That's not what I asked! I asked how you were feeling?!", Miss Gina repeated.
"I feel... uhm... am I supposed to feel anything?!", Isabella asked after giving it much reason.
She didn't really feel a lot of pain, she just felt light contractions .
"Good! The contractions haven't started yet! You should go ahead and take a warm shower!
I'm almost at the house! I'll come clean up and get the bags!", Miss Gina said, truly streets away from Isabella's apartment.
The way Miss Gina had calmed Isabella made her mentally pat her back.
It was the right thing to employ a doula, Isabella thought.
If she hadn't, she would be wondering whether or not to call Celia on a busy Wednesday afternoon.
In no time, the Ladies arrived at the hospital, Miss Gina quickly securing a ward for Isabella in no time.
"Do you want me to call Celia yet?!", Miss Gina asked Isabella who was eating.
It wasn't unusual to see a pregnant woman ask for food before delivery, but certainly not this much food.
Isabella had asked for a full platter before delivery, and she didn't seem to care what anyone thought.
"Hmm! Not yet!
We should tell her about it like when she's done with work!"Isabella started as she gobbled her meal.
"Ohh okay!", Miss Gina accepted, dropping her phone as she went about making sure everything was fine.
"The Wednesday traffic in that restaurant can knock the breath out of someone. I used to work there you know!", Isabella finished, going back to her food like she wasn't about to give birth.
A few hours later, she really started to feel the contractions, however, since the doctor had told her she wasn't fully dilated yet, she had to walk the halls and bounce on balls to get her pelvis open.
Celia seemed to sense her condition as she called Miss Gina immediately Isabella started her brief exercise.
"Who's that?!", Isabella asked as she heard Miss Gina's phone ring.
"Celia!", Miss Gina simply replied, having seen the caller ID.
"She's stalking me now!", Isabella joked, her lips curving into a smile as she goes back to exercising.
"You know she would ask right?!", Miss Gina questioned, wondering if Isabella wanted to keep the same answer as earlier.
"She would go ballistic if we lied, might as well tell her the truth!", Isabella answered.
She continued to feel the contractions as her baby girl was very ready to come out.
She just hadn't been dilated well enough.
She heard Miss Gina telling Celia her ward number over the phone.
I knew she would go ballistic, Isabella thought, hearing Miss Gina's effort to calm Celia.
Soon enough, Celia showed up to the ward, her name tag and apron still on as her hair remained in a ponytail.
"Did I miss it?!", she asked, huffing and puffing from the amount of rushing she had to do.
"Miss what?!", Isabella asked mid contraction.
"The birth! How would I be a great godmother if I miss my goddaughter's birth!?", Celia asked rhetorically.
"You didn't leave your name tag and apron back in the restaurant. Speaking of the restaurant! What happened!?!", Isabella asked, very familiar with the influx of customers on Wednesdays.
"The manager gave us the rest of the day off when I told her what happened!", Celia answered as she took off her name tag and apron and put it in her bag.
"How do you feel?!", Celia asked, approaching Isabella who was now on the bed, several wires attached to her body.
"I don't know! I just want to get this over with!", Isabella replied honestly.
"It'll be over soon!
On the bright side, we get to see the baby!
Thought of a name yet!?!", Celia asked, knowing how Isabella had dreamy eyes when they used to talk about names.
~~
Celia had thought she would be strong enough to watch Isabella birthing her baby, but she almost passed out seeing such a new concept.
The baby literally came out.
It was previously a small hole, then it turned big and then turned small again.
The human body is truly amazing, she thought as the nurses cleaned the baby as she cried on Isabella's chest.
"You did fantastic Isabella!", Celia commended as She pecked Isabella's forehead.
She truly did well.
After hours of contraction, she gave birth to a beautiful green eyed baby with curly jet black hair just like her mother.
She looked absolutely beautiful.
Soon the ruckus died down as the rest of the birth procedures were executed, the baby was cleaned, weighed and handed back to Isabella who was given a quick tutorial on how to breastfeed.
All the food she had eaten earlier seemed to have evaporated, thus, Miss Gina and Celia stepped out to go get something for her to eat.
In the moment of silence, Isabella looked at the beautiful baby she had just birthed as she suckled on her breasts.
"Sofia", Isabella said ever so gently as she gave her daughter a kiss.
All the months she was pregnant was worth it!
The contractions hours before were worth it!
The heart burn was worth it because of her beautiful hair!
And the night which she thought she regretted was worth it as she saw her daughter.
It would just be her and Sofia, Luciano didn't need to know they still existed.
They would live a happy life in Umbria, and they would be happy.
Or not!
