Chapter 79: Jealousy
Henry strode in. As the CEO of Apex Global Enterprises, he hadn't appeared publicly, but Caleb could easily guess his identity from his powerful aura and Diana's reaction. Noble and reserved while tall and imposing, even without a prestigious background, his face alone could make countless women swoon.
Caleb's eyes darkened slightly, then he smiled.
"What are you doing here?" Diana asked.
"Can't I be here?" Henry retorted.
He was a bit displeased by this. Was his timing off? Was he interrupting them? He didn't realize how sour his tone sounded.
"I thought you were with Mrs. Spencer," Diana said, introducing Caleb. "This is Caleb, a PhD student at Pacific Grove Medical College in Evergreen City."
"This is Henry," She hesitated for two seconds while introducing Henry, "a friend of mine."
Henry felt like she had stabbed him in the heart! A friend? Well done!
Caleb smiled and extended his hand. "Mr. Spencer, nice to meet you."
"Hello," Henry replied, shaking his hand.
Their handshake was extremely brief, a mere touch and release. Diana was dumbfounded by how perfunctory it was.
"How much longer do we have to wait?" Henry asked Diana.
"I'm number 125, and it's currently at 78." There were many people at the hospital for blood tests.
"Didn't you say your leg hurts? Go sit and wait," He suggested.
A minute later, she was sitting on a chair, with Henry on her left and Caleb on her right. The atmosphere was extremely awkward.
"Caleb, it's getting late. Won't you miss your flight back?" She broke the silence.
"I rescheduled my flight. I don't mind waiting a bit," Caleb smiled. "How's the study material I gave you? If there's anything you don't understand, feel free to ask me anytime."
She nodded in a muffled voice.
Henry bit his cheek, his face emotionless.
The system had already called number 123, and Diana got up to go for her blood test.
After she left, a tense silence hung between Henry and Caleb. After a brief pause, Henry spoke, "Thank you for helping Diana."
Caleb's smile stiffened slightly. "Mr. Spencer, who are you to her? In what identity are you thanking me?"
Henry's gaze turned cold as he glanced at him. "You do have guts."
Not many people dared to retort like that.
Caleb chuckled. "I just think she's worth more."
"Are you trying to take her from me?" Henry asked.
"Not take. She is free to choose who she loves," Caleb said.
"What makes you think she'd choose you?" Henry retorted.
"Because I can give her what you can't," Caleb paused, "like a legitimate identity!"
Although Henry had defended her at a banquet and taken her to an auction, he never publicly called her his girlfriend. People would only think they were bed partners.
Henry could be happy to stand up for Diana and make her happy; when he got bored, he could kick her to the curb.
"Mr. Spencer, if you don't truly like her, I do," Caleb said.
"Who said I don't?" Henry raised an eyebrow.
Caleb smiled. "Then please cherish her."
As they spoke, Diana came out of the testing area, pressing a cotton swab to the injury on her arm. Caleb stood up and approached her. "I just remembered I have something to handle, so I won't stay with you."
"Okay," Diana smiled.
"Let's keep in touch." After saying that, he turned and left. He wanted to stay, but given her complicated relationship with Henry, he didn't want to trouble her.
"What other tests do you need?" Henry walked up to her.
"I already did a urine test. Now I need to check the drug concentration in my stomach." Diana, being a doctor, knew her condition. She had inhaled a lot of ether, but a full-body check wasn't necessary.
The place for the stomach test was on a different floor from the blood test. With the elevator crowded, Diana and Henry chose to take the stairs.
There were few people using the stairs. As soon as they entered the stairwell, Henry suddenly reached out, pulled her into his arms, and kissed her, holding the back of her head.
He seemed to be stressed, kissing her so forcefully that it hurt. Diana cried out in pain.
He gradually became gentle, entangling her inch by inch. The noise outside made Diana nervous, fearing someone might suddenly enter the stairwell.
Overall, the kiss was particularly intense.
Until the sound of footsteps approached, Diana didn't realize she was already pressed into his arms, scared enough to hug Henry's waist tightly.
As the footsteps faded, he chuckled softly. "What are you afraid of? Are you shy?"
"I'm not as cheeky as you," She said.
"Don't worry. No one will see you." He lowered his head, his nose brushing against hers. "The way you look now, I wouldn't want anyone else to see you."
After the stomach test, on the way back to the ward, Henry asked, "Did you call me your friend?"
Diana was taken aback. "How else should I introduce you?"
She couldn't figure out his thoughts.
He had never given her an official status. After what happened with Oliver, she wouldn't dare to assume anything.
"Have you ever seen friends who sleep together?" Henry retorted.
"Isn't that what we are?" Diana said.
His face turned cold, and he said nothing.
Diana pursed her lips, thinking, 'Why is he angry now?'
She found him difficult to please this time back in Velvet City.
They walked in silence to the ward, where Bethany was already there, chatting with Juniper. Seeing Diana, she smiled and greeted her, "I heard you went for a check-up. Everything okay?"
"The results aren't out yet," Diana replied.
"It'll be fine," Bethany said, being naturally friendly.
Juniper looked at her and smiled. "You must be hungry. Eat something first."
"Thank you," Diana smiled and thanked her.
"Are you eating?" Juniper glanced at Henry, who, despite his calm face, seemed unhappy to her.
"No," Henry had no appetite.
Juniper snorted. "If you're not eating, then leave. Who are you showing that sour face to?"
Diana was surprised. It was the first time she saw someone being so blunt with Henry. Bethany leaned in and whispered, "It's a small matter. You'll get used to it."
Henry was taken aback. His phone vibrated; it was a call from Lucas.
After the call, he glanced at Diana, who was eating.
"Aurora tried to flee but was caught," Henry said.
Diana had suspected that Aurora might be behind her kidnapping, but hearing the news still surprised her.
Juniper raised an eyebrow and looked at Henry. "FDone? If so, get out. Don't ruin her appetite."
