Chapter 41
Gerard woke up to the sound of noise in his kitchen. He looked towards the other side of the bed for Dahlia but she wasn't there. Rubbing his sleepy eyes, he rose from the bed and made his way towards the kitchen. The sight that met him nearly made his eyes pop out from their sockets.
Dahlia was rummaging the fridge with a piece of half eaten bread in her hand. She was bare from head to toe. But that was not what mattered. He hadn't eaten that bread since he put it in the fridge the previous night. Which meant only one person could have eaten it. But that was not possible.
"Dahlia?" Gerard called and she pulled her head out of the fridge to give him another shock. There was a large piece of hot dog in her mouth. Gerard nearly lost his balance. Was she eating human food?
"Dahlia, what's going on?" he asked.
"I don't know." Dahlia swallowed the piece and looked frantic. "I just woke up earlier having these desire of something edible. And then I felt like releasing the contents I had in my stomach and then it all went away. And the smell of these things appealed to me."
"Yeah, that's all well and good." Gerard stared at her hands which were now shaking. "But the only thing you can ever find edible is animal blood. You've never eaten normal food before."
"I know! I just don't know what is happening?" Dahlia huffed in frustration, facing him fully.
It was then Gerard saw her body fully. She looked even more voluptuous than normal. His eyes widened as he knew what was happening.
"Dahlia." A smile broke out on his face as he walked towards her. "You're pregnant."

Gerard sat by his desk with his chin propped on his hand as he listened to Gabi ramble excitedly over the other end of the phone. At some moments he attempted to speak but would be cut off by yet another round of rambling. A sigh escaped his lips. To his relief, the ramble ended.
"Congrats, brother," Gabi said. "I'm so happy for you."
"Same here," Gerard heard Felicia's happy voice in the background.
"Thanks," he said.
"Do you think it's going to be a hybrid?" Gabi asked.
"Of course it's going to be?" Gerard frowned in incredulous fashion. "What else is it going to be?"
"The first hybrid ever," Gabi mused from the other end, more to himself. "It feels so surreal. How's Dahlia by the way?"
"She's back home. I wanted to stay back with her but she would have none of it. And then when it was time for me to leave, she became suddenly sorrowful and released a rather large waterworks of tears." Gerard shuddered at the memory.
"That's mood swing in action," Felicia giggled in the background. "That seals it. She's actually pregnant!"
Gerard groaned.
"You know this calls for a celebration," Gabi said.
"Really?" Gerard raised an eyebrow. "What do you have in mind?"
"Oh you'll find out later. In the meantime, I have to head off some where. Look at that. My little brother. All grown up," Gabi teased.
"I'm thirty seven!" Gerard nearly yelled into the phone.
"I'll see you around. " Gabi laughed and cut the call.
Gerard sighed and leaned back into his seat. He rolled his eyes and faced the door.
"You guys can stop eavesdropping and come in," he said. "You know I can detect your scents."
The door opened and Mandy stepped in followed by Jeremy. They both had shocked look on their faces.
"Oh....My... Gosh!" Mandy squealed.
