Chapter 53 53
Nathan kept calling out to Brooke as he ran towards the lady walking. He grabbed her arm and spun her around. Immediately, the smile on his face faded away when the lady turned around. She was not Brooke.
"I am not Brooke." She smiled while checking him out. "But I can be whoever you want me to be." She added seductively and winked.
The lady just happened to have blonde hair like Brooke's, the same height and the figure. But she was not half as beautiful.
Nathan took a step back shaking his head in disappointment. "I am sorry. I thought you were someone else." He said and immediately turned around and walked away.
He went back into the car and sat in silence. It has been a long time since he last set his eyes on Brooke. Way too long. He shut his eyes tightly and shook his head.
He had failed in finding Brooke for years. He had put a lot of resources into an attempt to find her. With the help of his friend, Ryan and his private investigator. He wondered how well Doctor Turner is hiding his family that he couldn't find them. He had finally accepted defeat.
However, accepting defeat didn't mean he had forgotten about Brooke. It's just that he didn't have much choice. Although, his heart still yearns for her.
From time to time he would ask Ryan if he had heard of any hospital taken in by Doctor Turner. But the answer remained the same disappointing one. There was no news at all. That was the reason he changed his focus to work. That helps him to forget by keeping him busy.
For over a year now, he has stopped asking Ryan about Doctor Turner. But he is now suddenly thinking about Brooke again. It's as if time was playing jokes with him. Now, he is back to his miserable self for the loss of Brooke.
The irony that Nathan felt was, he is the CEO of a multi-billionaire business. He has expanded the family business beyond what he had targeted. Be you what his father thought he could do. He has made a lot of billions over the years. But he is not happy.
They said money can't buy happiness. Now Nathan is a living witness to that saying. He has all the money in the world but he is far from being happy.
They finally arrived at the airport. After they have settled on the plane, Nathan's assistant notices how extra quiet his boss has been. He is sure it was because of the earlier incident. He knew his boss had been all caught up in the disappearance of his ex-wife. He decided to give a little advice to his boss that might help.
"Sir, if I may. Maybe you should try hiring another private investigator to look for Miss Turner. This time, it might work out."
Nathan let out a breath. He combed his hair with his fingers. "I really don't know, Jerry. I thought of doing that for a while now but I gave up the idea eventually."
"I am afraid of what the outcome might be. It has been years already." Nathan added. He didn't want to go into the details but his fear was beyond that. What if Brooke was already married?
What if she has a child or even children with someone else?
Then what?
Those were the things that kept haunting his thoughts. That is why he decided not to hire another Private investigator again.
The less he knows, the less it hurts.
"Let me have my sleeping pills." Nathan said to Jerry as he realized he was going deep into more deep thoughts. After he took the pill, he tried to get some rest. The thought of finding Brooke has woken up longing for her. So he needed to sleep it off. Maybe when he wakes up, it will hurt less. He activated his phone in silent mode so he didn't get disturbed.
After the plane had landed, Evan woke up to several missed calls from his mother. He was worried as to why she kept calling. Immediately he got off, he called her back.
"Nathan, it's your father. He fainted earlier and he was taken to the hospital. Where are you now? Please come. I need you." Nathan's mother said in a worried tone.
Moments later, Nathan arrived at the hospital. He went straight to the hospital from the airport.
"Mr Leo , I am afraid your father's heart is failing. Because of the Cardiomyopathy disease he has. It has surprisingly gone far because it seems he didn't know he had the disease." The doctor reported to Nathan in his office.
"Now medication won't be enough. He needs a heart surgery."
"Ok then. Get it done already." Nathan said. Wondering why they are wasting time talking, instead of saving his father's life.
"Mr Leo, your father needs a Septal myectomy. It is an open heart surgery. I am afraid we do not have any doctor that specializes in that." The doctor said, "However, we have a general surgeon, who I thought might take the case. But he turned it down. It seems to be risky to have someone that is not an expert to carry out the surgery."
"What is the next option?" Nathan asked. He is more interested in hearing the solution to the problem. Rather than things that would not workout.
"I would have suggested inviting a specialist. But that would cost a lot. And as a doctor, I know it is best to have a doctor's work in an environment he is familiar with and with his team."
"So it will be best if your father is being transported to a facility suitable for heart surgery." The doctor suggested.
"So what facilities do we have? I want the best." Nathan said.
"There are some of them in other countries but there are two that I will recommend in this country . You can pick any and I trust them on heart surgery." The doctor spoke.
"We have one in Holyrood. They have been doing a successful heart for almost two decades and it is close to Silverbrook. The second option is Emberwood hospital. It is the hospital that is now rising to fame. They have young well trained doctors that have good hands. They have trained with the best in their field." The doctor explained.
