Chapter 46 46
Ryan has been helping Nathan to find out where Doctor Turner works. Or so he thought. Ryan had looked into more than ten different hospitals and got back to Nathan with no good news.
"I am sorry Nathan. But Doctor Turner is not in Hiddenville either." Ryan's voice came from the other end of the phone. Once again, Nathan's heart sank with disappointment. A part of him just loses another strength of hope again.
"Thanks for trying, Ryan." Nathan said in a sad tone.
"What about the private investigator you hired? Didn't he find anything?" Ryan asked.
"Unfortunately, nothing. I found that very strange." Nathan said. The private investigator he asked to find Doctor Turner. He was the same man that worked on Georgina's case and found out her real identity. The PI is really good at what he does. He never expected him to come up with nothing at all about Turner's whereabouts.
Because of the negative outcomes Nathan was getting, he even went ahead to do something. Something he never thought of doing. He created a social media account just to try and find Brooke. His assistant was the one who helped him in the account creation.
He tried to search for Brooke but nothing came up. He tried searching her name when they were married and then with her father's last name. Nothing came up.
Nathan went ahead to spy on Brooke's friends, Nicole and Kate. Unfortunately for him, they had their accounts in private. He couldn't get access to any of their activities.
He even went to the extent of asking his assistant to create an account with a fake name. Maybe then, they will accept his request. But they didn't. They wouldn't randomly accept a stranger's request, especially with the situation at hand.
Nathan felt like a foolish teenager. But at that moment, he didn't care. He has to result to any extent he can go to to find Brooke.
He asked his friends to try adding Brooke's friends. They might consider accepting their request. He might get some information from there. However, he got the same response. Brooke's friends also blocked Ryan and Matt from their media.
"I am sorry, Nathan. We have tried. But a person trying to hide cannot be easily found." Ryan said. "I have to go now. Tomorrow is an important day for me. I have to prepare now."
"Thank you for trying, Ryan. And good luck on your project for tomorrow." Nathan said before dropping the call.
It has been almost nine months since Nathan figured Brooke had left Silverbrook. But what baffled him the most was how he still has no clue where she is. It was odd with all the connections and powers he has. He felt powerless but he is not planning to give up even as of then.
It is said that time heals wounds. But in his case, it didn't work. As time went by, Nathan only felt more responsible for what had happened to him. He only longed for Brooke more. The project of Carefree town kept him busy during the day. However, at night when it was time to rest, he felt restless and emptiness.
Nathan looked out the window of his car. He was trying to look into some designs that were sent to him. But he became distracted by his own private thoughts.
He turned to the laptop and went ahead to close it since he could not concentrate. He looked at the ring on his finger after closing the laptop. Nathan still had his wedding ring on. He really couldn't get himself to take it off. He felt it was another form of betrayal to Brooke if he took his wedding ring off.
The wrist watch Brooke sent for him has also become his daily wear. He never wears a different wrist watch as well. Since after their divorce, this was the only thing he has gotten from her. It somehow made him feel closer to her while he had it on.
"Where are we going, sir?" His driver asked.
"The cemetery." Nathan instructed. It was another day for him to make an attempt in finding Brooke. With the hope that this time around, he will succeed.
Moments later, Nathan arrived at the cemetery.
From afar, he could see Nicole and her family and friends mourning her mother's loss.
Her mother suddenly became ill a year ago and since then, she has been in and out of the hospital continuously. Until a year later that she passed away.
The whole family was left heartbroken with the passing of Nicole's mother. With the length of the time she has been in and out of the hospital, the family nearly went into bankruptcy.
Nicole stood In Front of her mother's grave weeping. She noticed the man responsible for collecting payment for her mother's burial. He walked towards her. She quickly approached him and began to plead.
"Mr, please, I am sorry I have not completed the payment. It's been hard lately but I promise -"
The man cut her off by handing her a receipt. "It's ok, ma'am. Here is your receipt. The memorial package has been paid in full."
When she accepted the receipt, the man turned and walked away. He didn't give her a chance to ask further questions.
But Nicole's questions were answered even before she could ask. She saw Nathan heading her way and she knew he had to be the one who settled the bill.
"Nathan, if this is your way of bribing me to try and get me to tell you where Bee is, it won't work. I already told you I don't know where she is." Nicole spoke to him when he got closer.
"It is not a bribe and I do not expect anything from you. Consider it a help for old times sake." Nathan said.
"I only hope for one thing though. That Bee will come and pay her respects to your mother." He added.
Nathan then placed a hand on Nicole's shoulder. "I am sorry for your loss, Nicole."
Nicole was speechless at Nathan's logic. "Th- thank you." She managed to say. She then went back to her family.
Nathan also stood among the people that came for the burial, even though he wasn't invited. He just couldn't miss it. This is another opportunity for him to have hope of setting eyes on Brooke once again.
'Now, all I have to do is wait for her arrival.' Nathan thought to himself. He let out a breath that has a mixture of f relief and nervousness at the same time.
