Chapter 44 44
"Yes. I would like to speak to Governor Lamar. It's about the bid on Carefree National park." Robert said. He has decided to take his threat further, after noticing he got the weak point of his son.
He picked up the landline in his office and dialed Carefree town governor's office. After a moment, the call was answered.
Nathan turned and walked closer to his father. He thought the father was bluffing at first, until he heard him making the call.
"Okay. Okay, fine." Nathan said aloud, raising his hands up in surrender. "I will do as you say. I will marry Brooke."
Robert looked at his son. A feeling of relief washed over him but he tried not to show. "I will have to call you back." He said on the phone and dropped the call.
"Good choice, Nathan." Robert said in a relaxed tone. "You have made a great decision to marry Brooke. You might not see it now, but later, you will thank me for this."
"Marrying Brooke will mean you will be my sole heir again. And the bid for Carefree national park shall remain." He ended and patted Nathan's shoulder.
Nathan did say a word. He turned and stormed out of the office.
END IF FLASHBACK.
Thinking about what happened in the past, Robert sighed. He looked very regretful. If he went ahead to cancel the bid for the national park, he would have felt worse than he is feeling at the moment.
However, he doesn't regret his decision of making his son marry Brooke. Just that, he thought he should have used a different approach to it. Maybe by now things would have been different. Nathan and Brooke would have been leaving with each other in peace and lots of love.
The two were still silent. They were both looking out the glass window once again.
"Father, I am sorry too. You might have forced me into marriage that I wasn't ready for. But somehow, you protected me from the real danger. You were right all along. Now I am facing the consequences of my own actions." Nathan said in a sad tone.
Robert walked closer and embraced his son in a hug. "It's alright. I am sorry too, son. I am sorry for being too stern on you back then. I am also sorry for what happened to you now. All these wouldn't have happened if I had used a different method to get you to do the right thing. It was my fault too."
"I am glad you have this project to keep you busy. As much as I am not happy about your divorce with Bee, it is time you should move on and do something for yourself. As much as I hate to admit that we have lost the Turners, but we have. They are now part of our past." Robert tried to encourage.
Nathan listened to his father's words but he has one thing in mind. He doesn't think he can ever let Brooke be a past. He has to do something, anything he can to find her.
"Ryan, I would like to apologize to you about Jenny or should I say Georgie?" Nathan spoke to his friend after taking a sip of his coffee.
The two friends were seated in a coffee shop. They are still in Carefree town. So far, they have spent three days in the town. Until the documents for Nathan's new property are finalized before they leave.
Ryan chuckled lightly before responding. "No need for that, man. What happened was not totally your fault. The girl was just too manipulative. Besides, I also have a lot to apologize for. We are all not perfect." Ryan immediately regretted saying the last part.
"What are you talking about? You did nothing to me." Nathan said with a frown.
Ryan realized it was too late to take his words back. But at the same time, he cannot tell his friend the truth about Brooke's whereabouts. He diverted the conversation to that of something else.
"That I am hotter. That is why I get the ladies attention." Ryan said.
It got Nathan to give a weak smile.
"Oh my God, Nathan. You look terrible and you cannot even put up a real smile." Ryan shook his head.
Nathan groaned and adjusted his seating position. "I am going through a lot, Ryan. It's not easy. But I am trying to leave by the end of the day with it all."
"I need a huge favor from you, Ryan." Nathan said on a serious note.
He had a favor he needed to ask from his friend. That was the reason he called him out for coffee that morning.
"What more do you need, Nathan? Isn't it enough that I approved those insurance claims? I hope you are planning to do your part to market our MedCare. Most health insurance companies don't consider covering already existing illnesses. It was very difficult for me to approve the children's policies. The promises you made to me are what made me do it." Ryan explained. Not even give Nathan a chance to speak.
"I know. I know. The children and I are grateful for what you are doing. If it goes beyond the policy limit, you let me know. I will find a way to cover it." Nathan informed Ryan.
"Jeez man. When are you ever going to learn?" Ryan said in disbelief. "Haven't you learnt your lesson from Jenny/Georgie's drama? Your thoughtful nature is what gets you in trouble.you need to learn to be heartless sometimes." He advised.
Nathan gave a dry chuckle. "I see your point. But you know, I can be as heartless as you can imagine when I lose it. But in this case, I don't mind at all. It is a case of saving children's lives. I'd rather give than receive." Nathan took his coffee and took a sip.
"What I need from you is quite different and unrelated. I really need your help in finding Doctor Turner."
"I think you are in the position to have more chances to help me find him. Your family already has branches in quite a number of States and you are still expanding. You have the right connections to help me with that. You know doctors and you know a lot more people in the medical field than me." Nathan took a deep breath before he continued.
"Ryan, I really need to find Bee. I need your help to find her."
"Please, help me find her."
