Chapter 33 33
"Mr Leo, it is a pleasure to meet you and finally put a face to the name." The lady said. She stretched her hand to him.
Nathan had stepped out of the car with his eyes fixed on the elderly woman that walked towards him, stretching out her hand. He had a bouquet in place as he hesitated a bit to accept her handshake.
"My name is Mrs Margaret Phillip. My husband and I are the new owners of this house. I am familiar with your name, Mr Leo. Because we kept receiving deliveries for Miss Brooke Turner. I believe she is your ex-wife, right?" Margaret said.
"I believe you were not informed that Turner's family has moved." She added.
Nathan finally accepts her handshake. After that, hearing the word 'moved' made him freeze in his stance for some seconds. He held the bouquet tighter before he was finally able to form words out of his mouth.
"Wh - what?" Nathan stuttered as he began to fill the heat all over.
"That is the reason why I allowed you on the property. To inform you that Doctor Turner and his family moved a month ago." Margaret said.
"We only moved here two weeks ago ourselves."
Nathan's heart began to beat faster. He was starting to feel a certain heaviness in his chest.
'They have moved'
'Dr Turner moved with his family. That means Brooke has moved.'
'Brooke has left the mansion.'
Nathan thought to himself.
"Where did they move to? Can you give me the address?" Nathan managed to ask.
"I am sorry I can't help you there. Doctor Turner didn't mention it. But I am sure he said something about leaving the city for good. So I doubt if he and his family are still in Silverbrook." Margaret explained with a smile.
Nathan felt as if his heart was about to escape from his chest. The information was too much for him to accept it.
"Goodbye, Nathan." Brooke's words echoed in his head. He recalled how she begged him that night to make love to her one last time and after that, she cried her heart out. She also mentioned how she was going to miss him.
But Nathan never gave more meaning to her words rather than their separation.
"It seems you were not aware of it all. I am sorry if I wasn't helpful-." Margaret began to speak. But was forced to stop mid sentence when Nathan walked quickly past her and went into the house.
"Bee... Bee.. where are you? " Nathan screamed as he walked in.
"Brooke... Please come out and talk to me. I am sorry." Nathan continued as he walked in the direction of Brooke's former room in the house.
"Mr Leo, I have to ask you to leave. I already told you the Turners don't leave here anymore. If you like, I can show you the deed we signed." Margaret said as she followed behind Nathan.
"Bee, please. I am sorry." Nathan ignored the woman and continued. When he opened the door to Brooke's room, the room was completely empty.
His heart ached the more.
"Mr Leo. It seems you have unresolved issues with the Turners. Maybe about your marriage but I already told you, they don't leave here anymore. I only let you in so that I can clarify this with you." Margaret said. She was clearly not pleased with Nathan's action.
"I hope this will be the last time you will barge into my home uninvited." She added. The polite smile she was offering at the beginning was now gone.
"I am sorry Mrs Phillip. It won't happen again." Nathan said in a low sad voice as he exited the house. He got into the car and his driver drove out of the mansion.
Nathan told the driver to take him to the hospital Doctor Turner works at.
A few minutes passed and they arrived at the hospital. Nathan abruptly got out of the car and walked into the hospital. He went straight to doctor Turner's office. To his dismay, from the entrance, there were changes already. The name tag on the door was no longer that of doctor Turner's.
"What is going on? This can't be real." Nathan stood behind the door after he had confirmed Doctor Turner no longer works in the hospital. He combed his hair with his fingers and then undid a few bottoms on his shirt to let himself breathe.
He recalled Dr Turner's secretary who had been working for him for years. He quickly walked to her where she usually seats but she wasn't there either. He was informed that she just left a few days ago. She stayed behind to get some papers signed for Doctor Turner.
"Did she mention where they moved to?" Nathan asked the lady that explained the situation to him.
"No, I am sorry, Mr Leo. She did not mention it." She said,
"Can I have her phone number?" Nathan asked the lady explaining the situation to him.
"Sure." She said and reached for her mobile.
After typing the secretaries number, he dialed it immediately. After two rings, she answered.
"Hello,?" She spoke.
"Ana. This is Nathan, Brooke's ex-husband. I wanted to -"
Nathan paused with his speech when he heard the two sounds of beep. Indicating the call was ended. He was surprised but wanted to believe there was a logical explanation. Like they got disconnected.
He called back again. It rang once and went to voicemail. Nathan realized the secretary blocked his number at that very moment.
"What the heck!?" He exclaimed.
He quickly searched for doctor Turner's number and called him again. But his number was still blocked on Brooke's father's phone. The same thing with Brooke's mother. His number was still blocked.
Nathan stood there confused on what major to take next.
"In this whole building, nobody can tell me where Doctor Turner has moved to? NO ONE?" Nathan spoke aloud, getting the attention of nurses and other workers that were passing by.
"Mr Leo, please. Keep your voice down. This is a hospital." The lady that gave him the phone number spoke.
"To answer your question, nobody knows where he is. He left very abruptly. That was why his secretary was the one who stayed back to complete some paperwork for him." She added.
Nathan was not planning to leave the building empty handed. He will not leave without any tangible information. He decided to go to the administrative building of the hospital. He believed he might get some information from the hospital head.
