Chapter 32 32
Brooke was surprised when she felt Nathan’s lips on hers. It was a gentle kiss that cut her off guard but soon she gave in. She hadn’t expected it, yet she enjoyed it more than she could imagine. It was their very first kiss.
That was the night they consummated their marriage. After that night, they have been intimate from time to time.
"Ladies and gentlemen, Silver Airways welcomes you to Silverbrook. The local time is 9:45 pm."
The announcement that came through in the airplane made Nathan wake up from his sleep. He groaned and combed his hair with his fingers multiple times.
"It was just a dream. It was a dream. I miss you so much, Bee." He said with disappointment. He wished the dream was real.
Nathan has made up his mind to go and see Brooke first thing the next day. Since he arrived late already.
'Can't wait to see you tomorrow, Bee.' Nathan thought with a smile.
The next day, Nathan sent for his hairstylist to come to the villa. He arrived soon and Nathan got a haircut and trimmed his beard. This is something that he has not done for a whole month. Now, it is back to his better looking Nathan. He made sure to instruct the hairstylist to cut it in a way that Brooke always appreciated. He knew she wouldn't be able to take her eyes off of him.
After he had dismissed the hairstyle, he had a bath and got dressed in his expensive suit. He looked absolutely stunning in a navy blue suit. He also applied Brooke's favorite perfume that she loved on him. When he was satisfied with his appearance in the mirror.
He then went to his home office and printed out their tickets to Paris and whatnot. He then went out to the Living room.
In the living room, he found the bouquet had been delivered. He picked it up and was about to head to the door when his assistant walked in.
Nathan was surprised to see him at the villa. What confused Nathan more was the huge box he had with him.
"What are you doing here this early?" Nathan asked.
"Sir, I am glad I caught you. Last night I tried to reach you but I couldn't get a hold of you." The assistant spoke. "This morning, I decided to net you here early."
Nathan recalled his battery was low last night. So he activated his mobile on DND before charging it. Till this morning when he wanted to reach his hairstylist.
"What is that?" Nathan asked, referring to the box his assistant is holding.
"It's the dress you asked to be delivered to Miss Turner." The assistant began. With a knitted brow, he continued. "I am afraid they had to call back, saying the same thing the florist had said. That Miss Turner doesn't leave there anymore."
Nathan felt a pang in his chest. This is the third time he is getting the same message. But he wants to believe it is a mistake as well.
"There - there must be a mistake. They went to the wrong address I am sure." Nathan said.
"Yes, sir. I am sure." The assistant echoed his boss's words. He also wants to believe that was the case and not the other way round.
"Doctor Turner can't just leave his father's house, right? He just recently renovated it. It can't be possible. I must be mistaken." Nathan said again.
"It must be sir." The assistant echoed again.
Silence fell upon them. Nathan looked into the distance. He recalled how Brooke said goodbye the last time they were together. He had felt there was something up with the way she said it. Now, he is thinking it might mean something else that he was about to find out soon.
"I will go with it." Nathan pointed to the box his assistant was holding. "I am on my way to the Turners anyway."
"Yes sir. I am sure it will all be cleared. Do you want me to come along?" The assistant offered.
"No need. The driver will take me there. I need you at the office to continue with what you have been doing. Besides, I am not resuming work yet." Nathan said.
He instructed his assistant to put the box in his car.
The assistant did as he was told.
Nathan got into the car with the bouquet in his hand. The courage he had at first is now going down. His heart kept beating faster and different scenarios played in his head.
"It must be a mistake." Nathan said in a low voice.
The driver noticed how his boss was not at ease. "Are you alright, Mr Leo? If you don't mind me asking? You looked worried since we left the villa."
"I am fine. Just a little nervous I guess." Nathan answered. "Thank you for your concern. Can you please speed up a little, I want to get to Turners as soon as possible." He added.
"Of course." The driver confirmed. He did as he was told. He understands the reason for his boss to feel nervous. Since the divorce, his boss has not been to his in-laws' home. He certainly would be nervous about meeting them. This is the first time he is meeting them after separating from their daughter.
Moments later, they arrived at the Turners mansion.
"Hello. Mr Leo is here to see Miss Brooke Turner." The driver spoke into the gate intercom.
"Mr Leo. Ok. I better speak to him in person. You may come in." A lady's voice spoke from the other end before the gate buzzed open.
Nathan’s driver drove into the house.
However, Nathan was clearly not familiar with the lady's voice that spoke. ' Maybe a new maid?' he thought.
At the same time, he has an uneasy feeling. Like something is not right. But he tried to compose himself until he reached the house.
The driver finally parked at the driveway of the mansion. Soon, an elderly lady with blonde and white hair walked out of the house. She walked towards the car.
Nathan stepped out of the car with the bouquet in his hand. He fixed his gaze on the lady as she approached him.
