Chapter 160 Calling You the Same as My Wife, What's the Problem?
Soon, there was a noise from the wardrobe.
Benjamin walked out from inside. Even wearing a Harvest & Hearth work uniform, it couldn't hide his extraordinary presence.
He stopped in front of Matthew, his lips curving into a slight smile. "Senior brother."
Matthew's face darkened. He stared in disbelief at this shameless Benjamin before him. "What did you just call me?"
"Senior brother, what's wrong?" Benjamin looked relaxed, his tone carrying a lazy drawl.
Looking at that face smiling so brazenly, Matthew felt his anger rising. "Who are you to call me senior brother? Who's your senior brother? Know your place!"
However, Benjamin didn't think there was anything wrong with this. His tone even carried a hint of pride. "You're my wife's senior brother, so naturally you're my senior brother too. What's wrong with calling you the same thing my wife does?"
Matthew: "......"
He had never seen such a shameless person!
Today really opened his eyes.
"Benjamin, what did you promise me? That you wouldn't see her again until she recovered."
"I only promised you that I wouldn't take her away from here before she recovered. I didn't say anything else." Benjamin held Sophia's slender hand tightly, giving her a reassuring look.
Sophia had been worried earlier that Benjamin wouldn't be able to handle Matthew, but she didn't expect the two to be evenly matched, neither backing down.
Especially Benjamin—his shameless attitude really got under Matthew's skin, while he himself remained completely calm and composed.
Sophia looked at the two of them, neither willing to give in. She helplessly rubbed her forehead, reached out her delicate little hand, and gently tugged at Benjamin's sleeve, murmuring softly, "You should go back first. When Matthew gets angry, even I get scared."
"Don't be afraid, I'll protect you." Benjamin held Sophia's soft little hand, giving it a gentle squeeze, not worried at all.
Matthew took a deep breath, his lips slowly forming a cold smile as he clenched his fists. "Come outside with me. I need to talk to you."
"Perfect, I have something to say to you too." Benjamin slowly released Sophia's hand.
"Honey..." Sophia worriedly grabbed Benjamin's clothes, looking up at him with concern.
Sophia's dewy eyes were full of him.
Benjamin's heart instantly softened. He reached out and ruffled Sophia's hair. "Be good, I'll be back soon. Don't worry."
He followed Matthew into the study. The moment the door closed, a swift punch came flying at him.
Benjamin raised an eyebrow but didn't dodge at all, just standing there.
Matthew's fist landed hard on his face, directly turning Benjamin's head to the side. You could imagine how much force Matthew had used.
Matthew withdrew his fist, slowly furrowing his brow. "Why didn't you fight back?"
"I know why you hit me. I understand how important Sophia is to you. So you hitting me is justified."
He had taken away the girl this man had cherished for over ten years—taking a beating was deserved.
Benjamin coughed lightly, wiping away a trace of blood from the corner of his lips. His deep eyes filled with determination. "I won't let Sophia suffer any grievance again. I promise."
"I don't trust your promises."
Matthew sneered and stepped back, walking to his desk to pick up a document and hand it to Benjamin. "Verbal promises—anyone with a mouth can make them. This document has no legal effect, but if you violate any of these terms, I won't hesitate to take Sophia away, and you'll never see her again for the rest of your life."
"Of course..."
Matthew's tone shifted, his lips slowly forming a meaningful smile. "If Benjamin doesn't want to sign, no one's forcing you. But once you sign, if you do anything to wrong Sophia, I'll make sure you know what consequences mean!"
Benjamin pressed his lips together without speaking, took the document from him and glanced at it, then raised an eyebrow.
Although this document had no legal effect, it showed Matthew's protection of Sophia.
It listed out all the boundaries Benjamin was forbidden to cross.
For example, no cheating, no being ambiguous with other women, not letting anyone—especially people from the White family—hurt Sophia, and so on, totaling about 72 rules.
Seeing these, Benjamin suddenly smiled.
Seeing Benjamin not signing, Matthew thought he didn't want to sign. His expression immediately turned cold. "What? Can't even meet these requirements? What right do you have to keep saying you love Sophia?"
Benjamin chuckled softly, his low, husky voice carrying an ambiguous tone.
He slowly raised his eyes, his long, pale fingers holding the document. The smile on his lips took on a wild, defiant edge.
"Who said I can't do it? I just think these requirements are too few. Aren't these responsibilities a husband should naturally uphold?"
Matthew froze for a moment, seemingly not expecting Benjamin to answer this way.
He snorted coldly and casually sat on the nearby sofa. His long, well-defined fingers lightly tapped twice on his knee. "If you're not satisfied, you can add to it yourself and reprint it."
He wanted to see what exactly Benjamin was up to.
Benjamin walked toward the desk with his long strides. "Mr. Moore, may I use your computer?"
"Help yourself."
Benjamin sat down in the office chair, opened the laptop on the desk, and his slender fingers flew rapidly across the keyboard.
Before long, several new items were added to the document.
"Rule 73: Stay by Sophia's side when she's sick."
"Rule 74: Be available whenever Sophia needs me."
"Rule 75: Always indulge Sophia's acting cute and her moods, never show any impatience."
......
"Rule 99: Whatever Sophia says is right."
Matthew: "......"
Matthew looked at the requirements on the computer screen, then at Benjamin, momentarily speechless.
Setting aside how he treated Sophia, just this determination alone—Matthew felt he couldn't match it.
These so-called "house rules" were meant to make Benjamin back down, but not only did he not retreat, he added more than twenty additional rules on top of the existing ones.
Every word showed his devotion to Sophia.
Even Matthew couldn't find fault with it for a moment.
He pressed his lips together and fell silent. Benjamin chuckled softly, turned the computer screen back, and clicked print.
The printer in the study made a noise, printing out that set of "house rules."
