Chapter 88 CHAPTER 88

Chapter 88 CHAPTER 88

Callum’s POV

I hear a knock on my door which is really strange because I don’t really hear knocks. The only people who entered my room were my parents, my mother especially, and the cleaning crew. The cleaners only enter my room whenever I am absent and my mother never thinks to knock on the door. She always barges in and this has caused arguments for us in the past. She once caught him in intense action with a girl back at high school.

Since my mom never knocks, I wonder who it is. I open the door and find one of the maids at the door. Her head falls low the moment she sees that I’m shirtless. On a normal day, I would ask if she thought I was hot and if she was free later in the day. However, not today.

“Why did you knock?” I ask curiously.

“You have a visitor, sir. He is waiting downstairs,” the maid tells me calmly.

“Who is he? I am not expecting anyone,” I say, utterly confused.

“I do not know his name as well but he seems familiar with Madam Clara,” the maid says calmly. My mother was addressed as ‘Madam Clara’ by the household staff. I wonder who it could be, someone who also knows my mother.

Anyway, I put on a shirt and went downstairs. I hear laughter even from a distance and I make out distinct voices. I can clearly hear Andrew’s voice. I walk even faster the moment I hear his voice. He is right there, truly, laughing with my mother.

“Oh, you are here, Callum,” my mother says upon seeing me. “Andrew came to visit us today. Aren’t you surprised too? He never visits us.”

“I will visit you more often from now on,” Andrew reassures her. He turns to me now, “Come and have a seat, buddy.”

With my eyes fixed on Andrew, I find a seat for myself. Their conversation continues and I try to chirp in whenever I can. However, the bad feeling I have doesn’t change. I continue to stare at Andrew as if that will tell me what was on his mind.

Andrew ends up having dinner with us and when it is time to leave, I volunteer to see him off. I accompanied him to where he parked his car with the plan to watch him leave.

“You should go now,” I say when we arrive at the spot.

He turns to me and the smile on his face disappears.

“I finally get a moment to be alone with you,” he begins to say. “You have been doing a lot of things behind my back, Callum. A lot of despicable things.”

I try to smile as I mutter, “I don’t understand what you mean.”

“Really? I thought you would still have the balls to admit what you did. Even though you’ve been acting all sneaky like a rat, you are still a man, aren’t you?” he asks me carefully.

I am undecided on how to react and I make sure to think about it carefully. For Andrew to react this way, it means he has either found out about Flora or about what I told Johnny. It could be about both. I have to play it safe since I don’t know which one he discovered.

“I still don’t understand what you mean…” I mutter, putting up a confused expression. Who knows? I might be capable of deceiving myself.

“Johnny!” he exclaims, filled with anger. “You told him Aurora was assigned to him at first before I pulled a few strings and had her reassigned to me.”

I breathe in relief. He didn’t seem to have found out about Flora.

“It was the truth,” I told him confidently. “I didn’t lie.”

“So you mean you did nothing wrong?” he asks, sounding really disappointed. I will have to work hard to ensure he expects no loyalty from me.

“I snitched. I guess that’s what I did wrong. However, you didn’t say I had to keep it a secret,” I reply. “I did tell Johnny but I am not responsible for whichever way he reacted.”

“Oh really?” he asks, laughing hysterically.

“Did Johnny threaten you?” I ask, trying not to reveal my amusement. “I understand he is a dangerous fellow. He isn’t someone anyone would like to mess with.”

“He told me to return Aurora to him. I am thinking of doing that,” Andrew says nonchalantly.

I am shocked to hear that. I understand that Johnny must have threatened Andrew but I never thought Andrew would yield easily. I can’t quite fathom what will happen if Aurora ends up reassigned to Johnny. That will be worse. I didn’t think of that factor before carrying out my plan.

I take a deep breath.

“You know how Johnny is, don’t you? Aurora won’t be safe if she is with him,” I try to get him not to give up.

“Well, if you knew that, you shouldn’t have told Johnny about it, you snitch!” he shouts at my face. I am beyond embarrassed right now. I look around to make sure no one is near enough to hear our conversation.

“Alright,” I take a deep breath. “I did you a disservice but we can’t let Aurora suffer because of that. You can fight Johnny. I know you very well. You have the power and the…”

“I won’t do it!” he interrupts rudely. “I have no reason to protect Aurora. Actually, my fiancee wants me to get rid of her. I think I have finally gotten my chance.”

“Hey, calm down, will you?” I tell him, getting angry now. I hate the fact that all I was saying was getting into his head.

“I might reconsider though…” he mutters, looking into my eyes. “I might choose to fight to get Aurora to stay with me. If I decide to fight, not even Johnny can steal her. But to do that, you will have to do something.”

“What is that?” I ask curiously.

“Kneel,” he orders without batting an eyelid.
