Is it over

Is it over
Natalia

I hate waiting, it always makes me think something bad was happening, and it wasn't really. I paced the living room waiting to hear from them. The police had indeed contacted the museum and asked for someone to come out and look over the body. The call came in almost twenty minutes after we talked about it. Now it was hours later and still no word from them. Sadie had been happy to go and check out the body, but I worried that we had just walked into a trap. Draven had told me to stop worrying so much, but I sent my son into the spider's web. As I moved back and forth in the living room, I looked out the windows to see the sun slowly rising over the trees. I could feel the pull of sleep, but I couldn't go to bed until I heard something from them. As I turned to walk back to the steeps, the front door opened. My eyes went to the door, seeing Sadie and Lucien entering the house. Marcus had stayed up to make sure they hadn't been cursed. I would guess because he had been cursed for so long that he could see it on people. He had to hide in the shadows until the shade went down to cover the windows.

"I can tell you that the body was indeed from around the Middle Ages. Also, he hadn't been wrapped in those scraps of fabric. It was part of the curse. So he died being cursed, and the strips of fabric were infused with the curse. In fact, he wasn't fully dead when they found him. When I arrived, Lucien was able to pick up a very faint heart beat. The cops had kept him in a room full of sunlight, which seemed strange to me. Normally if a body like this had been found they would have kept it in a dark room to keep the sun from harming it. Something told them not to do so. By the time I was able to start looking him over, he was dead. Well and truly dead. That curse should never have been used on anyone. I am rather glad that no one can recall it now." Sadie shivered at the thought of the curse.

"Marcus, are they clean?" I asked as I heard the shades going down to cover the windows.

"There is a hint of the curse, but it has no power over them. It is like it wants to find a home but can't." Marcus yawned as he spoke. "My suggestion is that they stay in the sun for a little while longer, it should burn it off. I really wish I knew how I knew the sun could stop the curse. It seems strange that he just died, I would have figured that he would be able to stay alive as long as he had hate to fuel the curse."

"This curse from what I have been able to pull out of the high priestess is fueled more by the witches hate. The power in the curse would have started to fizzle out when you were twisted. It would have taken so much of his life force that he would have started to mummify right after. When the witch died, the power behind the curse would have slowly started to fade. My guess is his own hate had fueled it for a while. If hew as a vampire when he was cursed, it would have also made it almost impossible for him to feed. It really was a matter of time till he killed over." Sadie sighed as she shivered at the thought. "If the witch that created and cast the curse had lived through it, he would still be alive."

I was thankful that it was over, but I worried that something didn't seem right. Could it be that we were missing something? Was it possible that with his death, he just moved the curse to someone else. Was the possible? I just didn't know the answers, and I was rather sure that Sadie didn't either. It was a game to play, and I didn't want to make the next move. I felt Draven come up behind me, putting his hands on my shoulders.

"You're still worried." Draven asked as he turned me to face him.

"Yes, it seems too simple. That he would just die all of a sudden." I told him, looking from him to Sadie. "Is it possible for him to have shifted the last of the curse?"

"Not that I know of, I would have to speak to the high priestess and see what she would say." Sadie looked worried for a spilt second, but then seemed to think it over and come to some conclusion that changed her mind." I am pretty sure that isn't possible. The guy would have to be a witch to be able to do that. Also, this curse would have drained away all his power."

"For my peace of mind, can you please talk to the high priestess." I said with a half smile. I knew I was being insane about it, but I would rather cover all bases on this.

"Sadie, did you by chance see a tattoo on the body?" Marcus asked with a frown.

"As a matter of fact, he did have a tattoo on his neck of a crow with something I couldn't make out." Sadie told him then sighed. "It was hard to tell much of anything on the body, to be honest. It could have been some other bird, but I know it had wings."

"Well, that means it is my brother. He had a tattoo of a crow with a skull with fangs." Marcus told us with a sigh. "The age adds up as well."

"That is very possible that it was that, I really couldn't tell you for sure." Sadie didn't seem comfortable with the topic. "Lucien, would you like to go get something to eat?"

"Umm, I-I yeah that would be okay." Lucien told her and I almost laughed because he doesn't eat food.

"Well, we are going to go ahead and head to bed. Try not to stay out all day, Lucien. You need to get some sleep as well." I told them with a smile.

I wanted my children to be happy no matter what. This was just another step toward that. Raven had gone up to bed before the sun came up. Marcus had only stayed to see if it was his brother. It looked like it was, and I felt bad for him. I wasn't sure if the two of them had been close at one time or not. In the bedroom, I looked up at Draven and sighed.

"I feel rather bad for Marcus." I told him as we changed for bed.

"They hadn't been close in years. His brother did his own thing and never wanted to follow the rules. It is part of the reason he was cursed. He kept attacking witches. They spoke to mom and dad about it." Draven couldn't tell her they okayed it.
