Chapter 12 CHAPTER 12
"Will not know until the boss gets here." I said. Inside I was worried as Hell. I wanted to radio Jessica and Darlene, but we were just order to a new channel and that meant radio silence. Raven came to the front of the cab.
"Joe can Clare and I play in the snow please? We will stay close to the truck." She asked.
I saw nothing around us, and it was snowing lightly.
"Dress warm and don't wander away from the truck." I told her. She kissed my cheek and they put on their winter clothes and went into an open field. I got out to see how bad the tire was and Hawkins followed. I kept checking the girls they were having fun in the snow. Boss showed up and I introduced him to Hawkins. We checked the tire
"Someone did something to it Joe. Look here." Must have been when you were getting fuel. Get the girls back inside." Boss said.
We turned and saw they had gone further then I told them. Hawkins yelled for them to get in the truck. Five minutes later Clare came running to the truck.
"Where is Raven?" I asked.
"She came back before Hawked yelled for us." Clare said. That did not make sense we just saw her. I personally put Clare in the truck. Raven and her bag were gone. I saw the note and read it. How had she disappeared when we just saw her. I told Clare to stay in the truck and got down and called out to the Boss.
"We got a runner, Boss.
"How, we just saw them in the field." He asked.
"Or did we?" Hawk asked.
"What are you talking about?" Joe asked.
Hawk confessed to kissing Raven in the kitchen and that she had threw up an illusion that they were sitting and talking.
"We will deal with you kissing her later. I saw you both talking yesterday when I came in the kitchen." I said.
"You saw what she wanted you to see." Hawk said.
"You're saying she put up an illusion of her out with Clare but actually came back here got her stuff and ran away?" I asked.
"Exactly what I'm saying." Hawk said. Then he doubled over in pain clenching his chest gasping for breath.
"No!" He screamed. Boss went over to him.
"Joe, talk to me, what is it?" He asked.
"Raven, no!" Was all Hawk could say. The Boss and I realized Raven had just rejected him as her mate. Clare came out of the truck trying to sooth him, to no avail. We got them both back in the truck. We started the search Parties going as the truck was being fixed. The snow was coming down heavy now covering any tracks. Darlene realized she could not get her scent.
"Did you have masking spray Joe?" She asked.
"Six cans," Joe said. I looked in the back there was only two.
"She took four cans, my hunting knife and pocketknife. She had this planned. What did you do Hawk that would make her run?" I asked.
"It is not what I did it is what I refused to do." He said.
"What are you talking about?" I asked he nodded towards Clare.
"Clare you were told to stay in the truck go now. This is an adult conversation!" Boss said in an Alpha tone. Clare ran back and got in the truck, going into the sleeper.
"Care to explain?" Boss asked. Joe hung his head.
"She wanted me to mate with her last night. I did not go to her. I could not do it as much as I wanted her." Hawk explained.
"So you rejected her. And she ran. Oh, that pain you felt she rejected you as her mate." Boss said coldly.
"When your tire is fixed get going you will have two escorts. I will stay and clean up this mess. Hopefully we find her." He told me and walked away. An hour later I had a new tire. I asked Darlene to keep me informed on my phone. She nodded and shifted and took off into the woods. She was a good tracker I crossed my fingers.
RAVEN'S POV
I could not believe it worked. I stood just inside the edge of the forest.
"Pay back time Hawkins!" I put my hand where the mate bond was. I stood tall and confident.
"I Raven reject you Hawkins as my mate. May I never lay eyes on you again." I spoke loud and clear. A tear rolled down my cheek.
I turned and headed into the forest towards what ever was calling me.
"I'm proud of you, Raven. You did the right thing. We gave him one chance and he blew it. You are brave and strong; nothing can stop you now." Spirit said to me. The snow was coming down heavy now.
"We need shelter for the night." Spirit said.
I found a bunch of fallen trees and piled them together then laid out my blanket and crawled inside and fell asleep.
In the morning when I woke up the snow had stopped. The shelter had kept Spirit and I warm and dry. I ate some fruit and had some water then packed everything up ready to go.
"Spirit, what way do we go?" I asked her.
We must head south- east. We must be careful about leaving tracks for anyone to follow until we get out of the snow. We headed south first. Spirit kept us in the right direction. We walked for hour every once in a while causing a wind storm covering our tracks. I had no clue how i was doing I just used my mind and caused the winds to cover everything. Soon it started getting dark, I was physically tired and my feet hurt. We had not seen or heard anyone all day. We found an old cabin that was falling apart. Spirit said it would be a good place to stop for the night. I made a small fire pit and gathered logs for the fire.
"How will we start the fire?" I asked Spirit. She smiled at me.
"Look at the logs Raven, think of them hot and burning making it warm and toasty. Just a small fire." Spirit encouraged me not to give up and soon we had a warm fire going."
"How did I do that?" I asked her.
"Your eyes hold powerful magic, Raven. You need me to teach you how to control each thing they can do. You can heal or kill with the power in your eyes. You were born when the moon and sun become one in the sky causing the sky to turn red as fire. The pack you were born into are not your true pack. Your mother mated outside the pack to make your kind stronger as will you." Spirit said as we walked. I laughed at her.
"I have no mate remember I rejected him." I told her.
