“Dr. Hart, someone is looking for you.” Nurse Tina said. She was now Natalie’s personal assistant, and she was in charge of all her schedule and appointments.
Natalie frowned. Tina had never asked that because she always handles all her appointments.
“Is the person on the appointment list?”
Tina shook her head.
“Who is she?” Natalie asked. She did not have any friends who would want to see her. So, it did not make any sense to her.
Before Tina could reply, someone pushed the door open and entered Natalie’s office.
“Sorry for coming in unannounced, but I couldn’t continue waiting.”
Natalie felt that the voice sounded familiar. She looked up, and when she saw the person who had entered, her face revealed a shocked expression.
“You, what are you doing here?”
Jason smiled sheepishly as he looked at Natalie. He cleared his throat and spoke, “Nat, I…”
Natalie waved her hand, cutting Jason off before he could finish his statement, “We are not that close, so please, address me as Dr. Hart.”
Jason smiled awkwardly. He never imagined that a day would come when Natalie would be this cold to him.
“I…”
“If you don’t have an appointment, please show yourself out. I have patients who are actually waiting for me to tend to them.”
Jason’s expression changed. Even after coming here to personally see Natalie, why was she still acting like they were strangers?
“Natalie, we have known each other since we were kids. Do things really have to be this way between us? I just need a few minutes of your time, please.”
Natalie frowned. She knew how stubborn Jason could be, and unless he got what he wanted, he would never stop bothering her.
After thinking for a while, she looked at Tina and spoke, “Give us a few minutes. We will proceed with ward rounds after I am done here.”
Tina nodded in understanding before she left the office, “Yes, Dr. Hart.”
The moment Tina closed the door, Natalie’s expression changed. She stared at Jason and coldly asked, “What brings you here?”
Jason looked at her for a few seconds without saying anything. Seeing that Natalie was looking at her wrist watch impatiently, he cleared his throat and stated, “You have really changed, Natalie. I wouldn’t have recognized you if we met on the streets.”
Natalie looked at the man with a deadpan expression. It was like she was telling him that if he had nothing to say, then he should scram.
“I am sorry about what happened in the past. I was young, and I just wanted to live my life without feeling like I was being controlled. I…”
“If you are here to talk about the past, then you can leave. I don’t have time to remember things that I have already buried. We all have moved on, I presume. You married the love of your life, and you even have a son. I also married the love of my life, and I have a daughter, so we should respect each other, don’t you think, Mr. Thompson?”
“Natalie, Vivian is not the love of my life. I…”
“Whether she is or she is not, it has absolutely nothing to do with me. You moved on, and I did the same, so let it stay that way.”
Jason frowned as he looked at Natalie. The Natalie he knew in the past was nothing like this. It was like he was looking at a completely different person.
“Natalie, why are you like this? What happened to you?” Jason asked.
Hearing his question, Natalie did not know whether to laugh or cry. What happened to her? Couldn’t he know best what happened to her after his painful betrayal?
Five years ago, he cast away their many years of relationship as if it meant nothing to him, and he dared to ask her what happened.
Natalie lost her patience and coldly said, “We are done here, Mr. Thompson. You are free to leave, or I will be forced to call security to throw you out.”
“Natalie, I am really sorry about how I treated you in the past. Could you please let go and come back to me? Can we start over again?” Jason said in an almost begging tone.
“You used to love me so much, and you couldn’t live without me. I am ready now. I will do whatever you want, please, just come back to me, okay!”
Before Natalie could say anything, Jason felt a striking force, and before he could react, his body flew a few meters away from the chair and landed on the cold wall.
He coughed up, and when he opened his mouth, he spat out a few teeth.
He wiped his mouth and raised his head to look at the person who had assaulted him, “What the hell?”
Natalie was stunned, and when she realized that it was Sean, she did not interfere.
Sean walked to Jason and held him by the collar, “Who do you think that you are to come here and harass my wife, huh? She already told you to scram, so what are you still doing here?”
“And who do you think you are? Natalie and I grew up together. We are childhood friends, and I am the only person she would ever love. You are nothing but a rebound.”
Sean raised his hand and punched Jason on the mouth. He did not hold back, and soon, Jason’s mouth was swollen to a pulp.
Sean leaned over and warned in a cold tone, “Say one more word about my wife, and I will make you regret the day you were fucking born.”
Seeing that things were taking a turn for the worse, Natalie finally intervened. She went over and held Sean, her voice gentle as she spoke, “Honey, he is not worth it. Don’t dirty your hands.”
Jason felt as if someone had punched him in the guts after hearing that. He even forgot about his physical pain as Natalie’s words left a deep wound in his heart.
In the past, he had meant the world to her, but now, he was not her husband, beating him up.
Was he that dirty?
Sean turned around and hugged Natalie. His eyes turned gentle, and he left a soft kiss on her forehead, “Honey, are you okay? Did he hurt you?”
“I am fine.” Natalie shook her head. She broke the hug and looked at Sean with a worried gaze, “It is you I am worried about. Did you hurt your hand? Come on, sit down and let me have a look.”
Jason’s eyes widened in shock. He was the one who had been beaten black and blue, so why did Natalie not even spare him a glance? Instead, she was worried about the man who had barely gotten a scratch!
