(DEVAN'S POV).
My eyes darkened as I watched Jason walk out of the hospital room. And as he turned around, we met eyes. I saw him chuckle at my appearance.
"Shit, what the hell are you doing here?" he asked in a snotty tone.
I gave him a sharp look. "Get lost and stay out of this," I threatened.
"Did you send someone to follow her? Is that why you knew she was in the hospital?" he guessed. "There's no way Theo would have contacted you, considering how you treated his sister."
"Shut your mouth." I grabbed him by the collar. "I'm warning you, Jason. Stop right here. Even though you're my best friend, I won't stand by if you interfere with my plans."
"What plans?" he raised his chin with a challenging expression. "Plans to destroy Theo or hurt Freya?"
"Including you, if you're still meddling, Jason," I hissed at him in a warning.
"I don't care. From the start, I was the one who decided to interfere. To hell with your fine, but if you dare to hurt Freya, I won't stay silent either."
I smiled mockingly. "Since when did she have so many warriors without swords, huh? I knew it, bitches are good at capturing men's hearts."
I screeched as he suddenly shoved my body, punching me in the face with a single crushing blow that sent me staggering backward against the wall.
"Damn, that mouth of yours makes me sick!" he snapped.
I winced, feeling the corner of my lip hurt. I noticed several people in the hallway staring at them. And one of the sisters who passed by came straight to us with a worried look.
"Sir," she whispered in fear. She looked at me and Jason in turn as if to make sure we weren't fighting in the hospital area.
"Sorry, it's just a misunderstanding. We're not fighting. You can go, Miss," I said politely. Standing up straight and looking at her, signaling that we were fine.
She looked at me once more with doubt, then turned to Jason.
"I just hit him. It was some kind of sign of love," Jason chuckled.
Fucking asshole.
"Think of it that way," I added.
Then she smiled as if she had gotten the answer she wanted. And then walked away from us.
"Cih!" He spat in front of me with disgust on his face. "Love? You don't even have love and sympathy."
"You think you're so much better than me?" I looked at him sharply. My eyes darkened. "As an orphan like you. You never know what it's like to be a brother that lost his sister."
"But that doesn't excuse you from taking your revenge on his sister!"
"Then why are you acting like a hero now?"
"Because I just loved her. I realized she's a different woman. And I won't let an asshole like you destroy an innocent person."
I groaned. Sick of the sanctimonious speech he was saying in front of me.
"Are you done talking? Now get out of the way because I'm sick of seeing you around her like a lapdog," I hissed. I was about to walk past him, but he suddenly pushed my shoulder. Blocking my way. I glanced at him sharply.
"I'll leave if you leave too."
"What?" I raised my eyebrows. Feeling ridiculous with his words. I chuckled. "Who are you to tell me what to do?" I brushed his hand away roughly.
"She's sick. Where's your conscience, huh?!"
"I don't need a conscience to deal with a murderer," I said sharply.
"You're crazy. Freya has never done anything wrong, Dev. If you want revenge, do it on her brother."
I groaned in annoyance. "I just want him to feel what I used to feel. Seeing my sister suffer without me being able to do anything. Is that wrong?" I smirked. I felt her grip my shoulders again very tightly.
"Dev, I swear I will beat you to death if anything bad happens to Freya."
"Hey, will Freya choose you with this attitude? Will she melt to you and accept your love?" I asked in a mocking tone. I gave him a pitying look.
He widened his eyes in surprise as if he had been caught. And it made me smile with satisfaction at her helplessness. His embarrassment. And his omnipotence.
"You think I don't know you've confessed to her?" I smirked. "He didn't even give you an answer. Poor guy."
"I don't care," he hissed. He looked at me sharply. Speaking right to my face in his heavy-sounding voice. "Whether she loves me or not. I'll protect her from assholes like you."
I pushed him away. Straightened my clothes and smiled mockingly.
"Try it. I want to see how well you protect her," I challenged.
"Oh, yeah ... I don't think I'll be able to make it to work tonight…."
I heard Theo's voice from in front of me. My eyes immediately sharpened, darkening as I saw Theo coming out of the hospital room while talking to someone on the phone. His words stopped as he looked at me.
"Oh, shit!" I heard Jason swear and I unconsciously smirked.
I was about to walk up to Theo and say all the harsh things I wanted to say. Something that would make him even more miserable and angry without being able to do anything, but Jason confronted me very nicely.
"I told you, Dev. Stop it!" he warned.
"Shut up and stay out of this!"
I pushed his body roughly and walked towards Theo who was looking at me sharply. Before I could get to him, he was already walking quickly towards me. Lunged at me while grabbing me by the collar. Pushing me into the wall until my back hit it.
"You bastard! What have you done to my sister, huh?!" he snapped with darkened eyes. I could feel his hands trembling as they gripped my collar.
"Theo, stop. This is a hospital. Calm yourself." Jason came over and tried to break us up, but Theo wasn't listening to him.
"I'm going to kill you!"
"Before you killed me, I already sent you to prison. And do you know what will happen next? I can freely destroy your sister's life and you ... you can only watch without being able to do anything," I smirked. And satisfaction washed over me as I saw the helpless look in her eyes.
"You...."
"Theo, let go," Jason said. He kept trying to break it up.
I growled in annoyance. I glanced at him sharply, but he didn't care. He pulled Theo firmly. Holding his body back from attacking me again as some of the nurses began to drop their gaze on us again. Preparing to approach us.
"Freya is sick. You need to behave yourself if you still want to be around her," Jason said.
"Why? Don't listen to him. Just hit me," I said provokingly, "I locked her in the bathroom all night. Doused her with cold water until she couldn't breathe. Don't you want to hit the person who hurt your favorite sister?"
"Bastard!!!"
I groaned as I was hit hard by Theo. I smiled with satisfaction. It was the face I always wanted to see from him. His helpless face. The face of fear.
