Chapter 9: Nine

DAISY

Logan stopped in his tracks and turned to look at me. I quickly bowed my head, but his fingers on my chin tilted my head.

A lock of his hair had fallen to his face. His smiles were both captivating and unnerving. But I sure as hell was gonna choose them over his glares.

“You've got a lot to learn, but let's start with the guys. I'd like it if you didn't bring them in on our secrets,“

“Huh?“

“Whatever happens between us in our rooms stays under wraps. I wouldn't 'ppreciate it much if the whole town heard of it,“ He kissed my cheek and walked past me before I could take in his words.

When I spun around, he wasn't in sight, but then, there was a class. No doubts he'd already walked inside. I wasn't sure what class it was or if it was on my schedule. Do I walk inside or walk away? I was stuck in my confusion.

“Daisy?“

I turned. Elated, I ran to hug her. “Suzy, thank God!“

“What is it? I thought you were taking a nap,“ She pulled away to take a look at me. “Did something happen?“

“Master Logan. His friends,“

“Where? Are you hurt?“

“No,“ I shook my head. I tried explaining the scene in the library but there wasn't much I could say. All their words had eluded me – words I knew had deep meaning and were directed to me. All I could remember was how affected I was with him so close, and it got me hyperventilating.

“Daisy, what's wrong?“ Suzy reached for my hand worriedly.

“Suzy, I think I'm coming down with a flu. I can't explain it but I feel weird with Master Logan around,“

“I don't ever remember the exact moment you were yourself with him around, so what are you saying?“

“I know. But this, this is different. It's like...it's like…“ I couldn't put my fingers on it. I was trying to but I wasn't good with words. And yeah, all these were aliens to me, so how could I explain it?

“It's like you're beginning to develop feelings for him,“ A voice interrupted. There was no need for turning around. They were voices which were etched into my heart. “Right?“

“Uh-“ I quickly glanced at Suzy to make the save but she, just like me, was trembling and already had her head bowed. “Uh-Master Charles, I don't quite understand…“

“I'm telling you what it is you're feeling,” He snapped. “Those weird feelings. Heart fluttering. Knees going weak. Dreamy staring. It's the beginning of your apocalypse. Don't embrace it,“

“We'll be waiting inside,“ Jake patted his shoulder and walked into the class with Drake.

“I don't know if you listened back there but I wish you did. This, whatever Logan is scheming, it's above you. Don't fall for it,“

“Then keep him away from her,“ It was Suzy. Damn right, it was. Startled, I glanced her way and she was looking him straight in the eyes, wearing a very serious look. Whatever gave her such guts?

“Sorry?“ Charles arched his brow.

“Keep her away from Master Logan. I know it's an impossible request to make from you, but if you're so bothered about his schemes, then maybe you should save Daisy from him…“

“Suzy…“ Her name slipped out of my mouth in a mumble as I tugged at her arm. As much as I adore her sudden courage, I wouldn't want her doing such foolhardy things as going up against 'the four horsemen'. Wouldn't want her standing at the edge of a rooftop again.

“It's a good thing you know how to look anywhere else but to the ground. But shouldn't you at least know when you should get involved in a talk?“

“She's my friend…“

“Suzy,“ This time, I tugged harder, dragging her into the class, far away from Beta Charles. “What do you think you're doing?“ I whisper-yelled in her ears.

We fell silent when we stepped into the class and were face to face with the teacher. An elderly woman, with glasses hanging loosely on her nose.

“You're late,“ She said, checking her wristwatch. “You might as well turn around and leave,“

“But Ma'am…“ Suzy was saying but got cut off by a gentle push at our backs.

“They're with me,“ Charles said glacially.

“Oh-sure. Okay, go take your seats then,“ The woman forced a smile, gesturing at us.

We murmured a quick 'thank you' and went to take a seat.

Suzy had spotted an empty desk and I was making my way to it with her before I got pulled back by the arm.

“I reserved a seat for you,“ He'd said the words simultaneously with a pull that had my butt hitting hard on the chair. I gasped, wanting to protest. His intent stare had me silenced immediately.

“Were you gonna say something?“

I shook my head. No way in hell was I gonna protest. When I turned to Suzy, she was squashed in-between Charles and some random girl. The poor girl looked like she'd been drenched in cold rain. It was no surprise Charles was gonna go after her for what she did back there.

“Did Charles say something to you?“ The question jolted me out of my reverie.

“N-no. He didn't,“ The lie had been the only thing on the tip of my tongue and it had come out with ease. His glare hit me hard. I froze. “Yeah, he did,“ I admitted.

“What did he say? Tell me every single details,“

“He said…“ When I weighed the words in my head, I realized just what Charles had said back there. That I, Daisy Vince, was having feelings for…-I looked at him- Logan?!

No way! It was the most illogical of things. There was no way that could be it. These strange feelings could be signs of a flu, an ailment or even worse, a curse. Anything, anything at all would do. Just not…

“Did you hear me?“ He broke through my thoughts. I stifled my breaths and dared to meet his eyes. This time, his eyes mirrored my confusion. I could be wrong, but the look in his eyes was the one from when you're unsure of something. “What exactly did Charles say? Now, more than ever, I wanna hear it all,“

“Logan and Daisy!“ The teacher announced loudly.

“I'm sorry, Miss Shel, I think you lost me there,“ Logan put up a finger, in such a reluctant way that wasn't suited for a teacher-student relationship.

“The group project? I'm pairing you guys up. You just got yourself a partner,“

What?!
