Chapter 136 CHAPTER 136
Evelyn’s POV
I sat up in bed, awake earlier than. Alpha Micheal was asleep in bed, sleeping soundly. It was about 4 am and I couldn't sleep again after rolling in bed for about an hour. I pushed myself off the bed and tried to take my mind away from the dinner.
“Only what matters” I told myself as I walked out of the room. “Only the things that matters.”
And right now the only things that mattered were I loved Michael and he loved me too.
I fixed myself a cup of tea. I was barely half way through it when the sleepy form of Alpha Michael appeared in the doorway staring at me.
“You could have asked me to fix you a cup,” he said, yawning.
“Did I wake you up?” I asked. “I was trying so hard to be quiet.”
He pressed a kiss on my forehead. “Can’t sleep?”
I shook my head. “No I can't”
“Is it because of what Alpha Raymond said to you?" he asked, refilling my cup.
“He said a lot,” I said, chuckling.
He sat down in front of me. “Don’t be scared of him because he’s Mayor now,” he teased. “He barks more than he can bites.”
“Ohh, he bites surely,” I said. “He bites more than he barks.”
Between small talks and cups of tea, I slept off on the table and when I woke up much later, and i found myself on the bed. Alpha Michael was gone and there was a message saying he was gone to sort some important things at home.
My phone vibrated and I reached for it. It was Flora. I glanced at the phone wondering what she wanted. We had exchanged contact after we met that day at the store.
“Hey, Flora.” I glanced at the time. It was almost midday.
“Do you remember me?” she asked. We met at the store.”
“I do.” I was still a bit sleepy.
“Can you come over to Dover's house? I would like you to meet my uncle.”
I rose up. “Your uncle?”
“Yes,” she said. “Can you make it?”
I was planning to go to the house to talk to Madeline and Anna later that day. “Er.. I'll let you know if I can make it.”
“Alright.”
I called Madeline. There was no answer. There was no answer from Anna either. I left her a message. I needed to see her urgently about something very important. Then I waited for either of their calls. When neither of them called by 2pm, I decided to stop waiting and see what the Dovers wanted to see me for.
I arrived at their mansion and Flora met me at the gate. She was smiling as though she had just met an old friend.
“I’m glad you could come,” she said. “My uncle is waiting for you.”
Alpha Dover was a popular name, not in business but in politics. I knew very little of him and I wondered why he wanted to see me suddenly. I sat in the sitting room while I was served some snacks.
“What is this about?” I asked.
“Rosaleen,” she said.
The sound of her name was like dropping a bombshell. “Rosaleen?”
She nodded and just then, alpha Dover stepped in. He was an imposingly tall man and he stretched his large hands towards me. I took it and his palm swallowed mine. “I have heard quite a lot about you and your strong spirit."
I wasn’t sure if it was a compliment but still I accepted it. “Thank you,” I whispered.
“Please, sit,” he said, gesturing to the chair. I sat down and looked from uncle to niece. Flora was smiling warmly while her uncle had a serious look on his face.
“As you know, I am a lawyer and I have just been told about some of the atrocities that Rosaleen Blackwood has committed against you and my two nieces.”
I nodded.
“I am leading a charge against her on behalf of my family, and your testimony would be very important in court,” he continued.
I looked at Flora, then back at him. “You want me to testify against her in court?” I asked looking a bit surprised.
He moved closer. “Rosaleen was involved in the murder of a young man. Marcus. He was her PA and he was also a friend of Flora. She framed him up and sent him to jail, then paid a man to have him killed.”
I swallowed. “Killed?”
I didn’t know Rosaleen was capable of getting someone killed.
“She had me kidnapped a few months ago. She connived with my step brother,” I said.
“Xavier,” Flora said, smiling. “I know Xavier. We dated a little and I have a couple of records of Xavier and Rosaleen talking.”
“You are also aware that she took all of Fiona’s trust fund through blackmail,” the uncle said.
I nodded. I was aware of all of it.
“Fantastic. I will start the process of getting a warrant for her arrest. All I want you to do is to testify in court when the time is right.”
I thought of what alpha Raymnd had said to me the previous night. He had bragged that Rosaleen was the perfect person for his son. He would be so ashamed of himself when he hears of her arrest.
“Definitely. Rosaleen has to pay for her crimes,” I said.
“As soon as we can track the location of her henchman, Ignatio, we would start the case rolling,” he said.
Afterwards, Flora walked me back to the gate. He told me a little about Marcus. I didn’t know him, but he was her closest friend.
I asked after Fiona, and she said she had gone out on a date with someone. I smiled, hoping it was with Jasper.
“Thank you again for coming," she said and I smiled.
As I sat in the car, I heaved a deep sigh. It was getting to the point of game over. I was not the one who was going to take down Rosaleen. It was going to be the Dovers. They were one of the strongest families in New York and Alpha Raymond would never antagonise them.
I called Michael to give him heads up.
When he picked up the phone, he had news for me instead.
