Chapter 272: The Alpha King's Rejected Mate
Amara’s pov
I got to my office a little later than he expected because I changed my mind along the way and went back to my room to wait for my wounds to heal before getting a change of clothes.
When I got in, Nexus was standing by the windows, hands tucked in pockets with his gaze fixated through the glass like he found something captivating.
"I am here." I announced locking the door behind me and moving forward with my hands in my pockets mimicking him, "You said it was urgent."
"The coronation is tomorrow." He turned to me with a smile that I noticed didn't reach his eyes which made me wonder if he was putting on a facade at the moment, "You are elated aren't you?"
"I feel indifferent," I mumbled stopping before my desk to look at my speech which I was having a hard time practicing. I had left it aside because I still had hours till dawn of tomorrow as it wasn't even noon yet, "And just...indifferent."
"Hmm." He turned back to the window with a sigh, "You should be happy, I guess."
"Any reason why?" I stood next to him peering through the glass, "I am being tasked with more burdens."
"You are moving to a bigger castle tomorrow Orian. The bad memories created here with Hector and Imelda plus other things that have happened wouldn't greet you in the face every morning and with a higher position, you have someone to share your burdens with now."
I couldn't help the smile that crept to my lips remembering that Amara would officially be my Queen tomorrow and I wasn't bothered anymore with Cyrus taking her because I trust her, "You are right. Although I have memories here with Amara, we would make new ones over there."
"Yea."
And we stood in silence looking out the window observing nothing peculiar other than the day being gloomy still.
"Nexus." I cleared my throat.
"Yes, dear?" He hummed.
"Is there something you want to tell me?"
"Nope."
"Okay."
"Add dear."
"Okay, dear," I grumbled and continued looking out the window just like he was and this time he began to hum which grew irritating as time passed.
"Orian."
"Yes?"
"You have something you want to tell me?" He turned facing me this time with his brows raised, "Anything you have been keeping from me?"
"Nope."
"Are you sure?"
"Nothing." I was confused at his sudden questioning and peculiar behavior.
"Then how can you explain this?!"
"Wh-" My words were stopped, my look of confusion morphing into that of agony as I felt the slice of a blade on my arm, "What the fuck?!" I yelled staggering back as he sliced me again faster than the first time with my blood dripping down to the floor and his gaze being harsh.
It all happened faster than I could process, one moment I was turning to him the next I was moving away clutching at my bleeding arm wondering what was going on as he took steps towards me waving a dagger with the intent to attack me again.
