Chapter 70 Taking It Easy
Chapter 70 Taking It Easy
Once she was gone, I turned to Aiden, curious to know what he wanted to talk to me about. The fact that it might be about Alpha Warren made me feel a little uneasy. "What is it that you need us to talk about?"
"The border," Aiden said in a calm voice. "Alpha Warren is getting close. He is constantly looking for you every day, and the more he does, the more he might figure out you are here."
My heart thudded in my chest with the thought of what he had said. The idea of Warren being so close sent a sharp shiver down my back. "If he doesn't know about me being his mate, why is he constantly looking for me?" I asked, my voice filled with fear and worry.
Aiden shoved his hands into his pockets as we started walking down the long hallway together. "Guilt. He feels like he is responsible for you going missing, and there is also another lady who is looking for you as well."
I kept my steps slow beside his, trying to process every word. My chest felt heavy, but I kept my eyes on the floor in front of us.
"But don't worry, you are safe here," Aiden continued, his voice calm and firm. "Your movement will be restricted until I am sure he has given up on searching for you. You are to stay inside and not leave the mansion."
I opened my mouth to say something, but I felt too weak to speak right away. I took a slow breath to steady my racing thoughts before looking up at him. "I understand. And thank you so much for taking care of me and my pups. Thank you for the concern about us."
Aiden looked toward my direction, and when our eyes met, he looked away just as quickly. The moment made my heart leap in my chest. My wolf stirred deep within me at his closeness, while my mind drifted back to what Gina had said earlier about Aiden and me being fated mates.
I quickly brushed the thought away and shoved it at the deepest part of my gut. There was no way I could deal with another complicated bond right now.
"You don't have to listen to whatever Gina or my grandma says," Aiden said, pulling me straight out of my thoughts.
My face flushed hot when I realized that since he could tell what was going through people's minds by just staring at them, he must have been able to tell what was going through mine just now. I looked down at my feet, my cheeks burning with shame.
"They get nosy on things sometimes," Aiden added, his tone remaining cold as he kept his eyes looking straight ahead.
We continued walking side by side until we got to the big living room. Aiden walked over and took a seat on one of the couches, leaning back and resting his arms over the sides. I walked over and did the same, taking a seat on the edge of the couch across from him. The cushion was soft under me, but I sat up straight, holding my hands tightly in my lap.
I looked across at him for a quiet second before I spoke up. "Why didn't you tell me at first that you are a Lycan?"
Aiden scoffed softly, shaking his head. "Gina told you that, didn't she? She tends to talk a lot."
"I got curious with this mansion and the strong aura around here, so I asked," I told him, keeping my voice gentle.
Aiden looked at me with his calm eyes. "I didn't tell you I was a Lycan at first because I didn't see any need to. But now that you know, it saves me the stress of explaining it later."
I gave him a small smile, trying to lighten the heavy mood in the room. "It's not a big deal telling me anyway."
Aiden sat quietly on the couch, staring at me for a few moments before he spoke. "Have you thought of a name for your pups?" he asked.
"I haven't come up with anything yet," I said, looking down at my fingers. "Gina suggested I ask you for ideas."
Aiden nodded slowly. "I can help out with that. Are you aiming to give them names relating to their father?"
"No," I answered immediately, shaking my head firmly. The last thing I wanted was to give my sweet babies names that would constantly remind me of Alpha Warren and everything that had happened. "I just want unique names for them."
"Okay," Aiden said, his deep voice smooth. "Then I will give them names during the naming ritual."
I pulled my brows together in confusion, staring at him. "What's that?"
"It is a thing where all the wolves in the pack gather to witness new pups being named," Aiden explained to me calmly. "Because your pups were born in this pack, we need to perform the same with them."
I frowned at him, shaking my head a little. "That's weird."
"It isn't," Aiden said, a tiny hint of a smirk touching his lips for just a second before it vanished. "It's just something I came up with for this pack. We will perform it tomorrow."
I looked at him for a moment, still feeling a bit unsure about standing in front of a whole pack of strangers, but I nodded my head anyway. "Okay."
We sat there in the living room for a while longer without saying much. The quietness between us wasn't uncomfortable, but it gave me time to rest my mind. The heavy air of the house settled around us, and I could hear the light wind brushing against the large windows outside.
After sitting there for some time, I felt the deep tiredness returning to my legs and body. I knew I needed to get back to my babies to make sure they were still sleeping peacefully in their crib.
I placed my hands on my knees and stood up slowly from the couch, looking over at Aiden. "I think I will head back to my room now."
Aiden gave a single nod from where he sat, his dark eyes watching me carefully. "Go and rest."
"Thank you," I murmured softly.
I turned around and walked out of the living room, making my way back down the quiet hallway and heading up the stairs toward my room.
