Chapter 138 My Cat Can Do Backflips
This night was destined to be a long one.
While the internet was in an uproar, Amelia returned to her rented place, took a bath first, then stood on the balcony in her nightgown, letting the breeze blow over her.
The May night had a slight wind, but it was comfortable.
Amelia looked at her phone and saw a new message.
[This is York, this is my number.]
Amelia could almost picture York sitting at his desk typing out this text message.
But sitting here, this wasn't the message she was waiting for.
After a while, Amelia's phone vibrated.
She glanced at it—it was a call from Felicity.
After thinking for a moment, she decided to answer.
"What is it?" Amelia said.
"Amelia, William is sick," came Felicity's angry voice. "He's at the hospital, all alone. Aren't you going to come see him?"
Amelia frowned slightly and said, "Didn't he tell you?"
"Tell me what?" Felicity was still angry.
Amelia thought for a moment, and Finn's face appeared before her eyes.
"Nothing," Amelia said.
Maybe he needed a few days to tell the Brown family that they were already divorced.
In this failed marriage, Finn had been good to her, so she'd let William tell them himself. However, if William kept putting it off, she wouldn't keep hiding it either.
"Amelia, you..."
Before Felicity could finish, Amelia interrupted: "I know he's sick. Alright, I have things to do."
With that, she hung up directly.
She had no need to deal with this kind of accusatory call.
When Felicity called again, she put her on Do Not Disturb.
Then Amelia continued waiting.
She leaned back on the long lounge chair, looking at the city lights spread out before her.
This city was always so busy—even late at night, it remained brightly lit.
Finally...
Amelia's phone vibrated.
Amelia looked down and saw it was a call from Finn.
She took a deep breath, calmed herself, and answered the phone.
"Grandpa," Amelia said gently.
"Amelia." Finn's voice sounded old and tired.
After saying her name, Finn didn't speak right away. Instead, he sighed before saying, "What's going on between you and William?"
Amelia didn't know how to answer.
"I know you're angry about him and that Isabella!" When mentioning Isabella, Finn's voice was clearly furious. "Your grandmother said she's going to confront Isabella one of these days!"
Another elderly female voice came from beside him: "That's right, Amelia. Before, we wanted to let William handle it himself, but now it seems he doesn't know what's good for him! I'll go find Isabella myself!"
The voice was obviously Cleo's.
Amelia's feelings were complicated—touched, but also helpless.
She had already divorced William.
And she had no plans to remarry.
So whether Cleo went to confront Isabella or not had nothing to do with her anymore.
Thinking this, Amelia said, "That's not necessary."
"Amelia..."
"There are some things in between that William... hasn't told you yet," Amelia said tactfully. "Some things aren't convenient for me to bring up first. He'll tell you later."
There was silence on the other end for a few seconds, then Finn asked, "Amelia, is there some problem between you two?"
Amelia looked at the stars in the sky, thought for a moment, and said, "It's nothing major, just that some things need to come from him."
Just like how he had brought her to kneel at Finn's bedside back then.
Now, he needed to speak up first too.
"I'm a bit tired, going to sleep now." Not giving them a chance to ask more questions, Amelia said goodnight and hung up.
Looking at the disconnected screen, Amelia let out a long breath of relief.
With that call over, she could sleep now.
But before lying down, she received a message.
Amelia opened it and saw a cat that had done a flip.
Below was a message—[My cat can do backflips.]
"Childish." Amelia smiled, tossed her phone aside, and went to sleep.
On the other side, at the Jenkins Villa.
Otis was playing with York's cat.
"Backflip, great!" Otis nodded and fed the kitten a treat.
Otis was still training the cat over there.
But the kitten had already lost interest in Otis and lazily ran over, jumping into York's arms.
York smiled and scratched the kitten's chin, and it meowed contentedly.
...
Some things happened over the next two days.
First, the matter between Amelia and William stayed trending online for a whole night.
Then when people woke up the next day, there was new news.
This news was about Isabella releasing an edited preview of the short drama she'd made based on "Love in Micro."
It told the story of two people meeting, falling in love, and then one of them dying from illness—a bittersweet tale.
From the preview, the demo from that recording studio played a role in their romantic commitment.
In that scene, when the female lead was recording the demo, the male lead was actually listening nearby, but she hadn't noticed.
Another scene showed that when the female lead died in the male lead's arms, this demo played again, reminding the male lead of the beautiful past and leaving him heartbroken.
As soon as this preview came out, it immediately caught the attention of many internet users.
Everyone loves gossip.
The gossip about Amelia and William was yesterday's news—how could it compare to this fresh gossip?
"Just watching the preview made me want to cry. When the short drama comes out, I'll definitely be the first to support it."
"This is about the story between Isabella and William, right? So sad. Just thinking about how in five months, Isabella will die in William's arms with this demo playing, I'm heartbroken."
"Release it soon, I'll be the first to support it when it comes out!"
...
When Amelia saw this news, she just smiled.
She actually hoped Isabella would release it soon.
That way it would be easier for her to sue.
She'd heard that Isabella wanted to get this short drama approved for theatrical release in cinemas, so it would take some time. She wondered if Isabella could pull it off.
When she saw the news, Amelia was at the Brown Group with her lawyer.
She handed the divorce agreement to Rhys, saying she wanted to claim everything that rightfully belonged to her.
This included the old Martinez family assets.
"Rhys, let's do an inventory. I want to complete the handover in the next day or two. This is my lawyer." As Amelia spoke, she introduced Efrain Hubbard, who was standing beside her.
