**CHAPTER SIXTY.**
Drake had decided to stick to me like a glue throughout lectures. Not only was he offering Statistics, but he was also offering Philosophy as a field of study. Great. Just great.
We were at our last class of the day. Drake was seated next to me, ignoring whatever the lecturer was teaching as he played a game of solitaire on his laptop. He'd be doing that throughout the classes we had today. Draken had told me he had an IQ of over 400, but with how lackluster he was being, I was beginning to even doubt that.
“Mister Drake Gallagher,” the lecturer called from where he was on the podium, eyes fixed on Drake. He had paused his teaching and I knew it was because of Drake's excessive clicks on his laptop while playing solitaire.
Everyone had their gaze at Drake as he looked up from his laptop, giving the lecturer a blank stare. “Yes?”
“Can you explain to the class what you were doing on your laptop?” The lecturer asked, crossing his arms around his chest as he waited for an answer.
Drake, on the other hand, looked absolutely confused. “Playing a game of Solitaire?” He answered honestly, earning a fit of giggles from some students. Of course they found his response funny. *Hahahaha.* “I can teach you if you want to learn it.”
That earned him another fit of laughter from the students, but the lecturer wasn't finding it funny. Me? I couldn't tell if he was joking or genuinely confused. It could have been the latter, and it made me wonder if Drake was socially awkward. He couldn't be, right?
“Thank you for the offer, Mr Gallagher, but I'd appreciate it if you can just listen to what I'm teaching in my class,” the lecturer said.
“I was listening,” Drake replied immediately.
“You were playing a game of solitaire, Mr Gallagher.”
“That doesn't mean I wasn't listening,” Drake replied.
The lecturer sighed. “What was the last thing I said then?”
“Justified true belief, a traditional theory of knowledge. It suggests that for someone to *know* something, three conditions must be met. One, *Belief.* Two, *Truth.* And the third, *Justification.* The person must have good reasons or evidence for believing the proposition,” he started, his voice low, but audible enough for everyone to hear. He was still playing his game of solitaire even as he replied the lecturer. And funny thing was, he wasn't just saying the last thing the lecturer had said. He was saying everything the lecturer had said since he stepped into the class. “For example, if you know that "the sky is blue," you must believe it, it must be true, and you need to have justification for that belief —such as seeing the sky during the day.”
Everywhere was quiet as he spoke. And I was feeling bad for even doubting his brilliancy.
“The JTB model was widely accepted until *Edmund Gettier's 1963 paper*,” he continued. I could see the shock on the lectures face. “which presented cases where all three conditions are met, but people still wouldn't say that true knowledge had been attained. These are known as *Gettier problems*, and they challenge the JTB model by showing that justification, truth, and belief might not be sufficient for knowledge. The debate over how to refine or replace the JTB model continues to be a central focus—”
“Thank you. That's enough for now, Mr Gallagher,” the lecturer cut him off with a liptight smile while the class began to clap.
Drake didn't look amused by the claps as he continued to play his game of solitaire.
When the clap subsided, the lecturer cleared his throat and spoke again. “Alright class, can we go back to where we stopped.”
As the lecturer resumed teaching, Drake's attention remained on his game. The lecturer noticed Drake wasn't still paying any attention, but said nothing to call him out again. However, what I did notice was how he was biting his finger as he played his game.
Was he nervous? Or could he really be socially awkward like I thought? Nah, he couldn't be. I believed I knew him well enough to know that.
A message notification on my phone drew me out of my thoughts. I discreetly brought out my phone and opened it, wondering if the message was from Draken, but it wasn't. The notification was due to someone adding me to a group chat.
**Betty: Welcome to the shifters basement, Eline. Topper gave me your number.**
**Me: Oh, hey!**
**Betty: Let's all meet at the school carpark. We're heading to Cortland university today for our operation fish out Tyler.**
**Links: can you just type like a normal person, Bet?**
**Betty: And how does a normal person type?**
**Links: like I do.**
**Betty: Well, at least I capitalize my opening sentence unlike you. LMAO. Normal person indeed.**
**Links: fuck off! fuck you!!**
**Betty: Anyways, don't forget to meet up everyone. Also, Eline, can you drag Drake along with you?**
I glanced over at the person in question and tapped him gently to get his attention. He looked at me. “Betty said I should drag you along with me to the car park because we'll be going over to Cortland to search for Tyler, you down?”
“You'll be going, right?” He asked me.
Of course. Nothing in the world could make me miss a hunt for Tyler. “Yes.”
“Count me in then,” he replied, turning back to his game.
**Me: Drake said he'll be coming along.**
**Brianna: If drake is coming, then I'm not coming along.**
**Hannah: I thought we were over this already, Bri**
**Betty: Brianna, don't let a break up interfere in our search for Tyler and the other hunters.**
**Brianna: You all only speak like this because you were not the one cheated on.**
**Kelvin: Just come along, Bri. You can ride with me and Links.**
**Brianna: Fine then.**
I closed the group chat and returned my phone back to my bag.
After class was over drake waited for me to finish packing before we left the lecture hall together and headed towards the carpark.
**Authors note: I hope you all don't mind the tiny slice of life I add in. I want you all to get acquainted with each characters. I want them to have each of their own identities.**
**FUN FACT: Drake isn't meant to be a character in this story. I just randomly added his name into the family tree in chapter eight of this book. And that's why I couldn't even come up with a proper name for him. Anyways, he's come a long way, and now he's one of my favourite character.**
