Tonight is the night that I’m going to propose to Emmy. I’m taking her to the clearing on the mountain we were on when she told me about being a witch and that we were soulmates. The team, Emmy’s parents, Vivian, Jason, and Kenzie will be hiding in the woods near the clearing. Once Emmy says yes, which I know she will say yes, everyone will come out, and toss flowers over us, apparently it’s something that is done in the magical world.
Emmy just thinks we are going on a date, which we are, I’m taking her to dinner first, and then to the clearing. I’ll be taking my car, ever since Emmy found out she is pregnant I won’t let her go on my bike, plus she has a little baby bump now. Also, I’m pretty sure if Thanos found out that Emmy was on the back of my bike he would flip the fuck out, and I don’t want to piss Thanos off. The man is going to be my daughter’s soulmate which means we are going to be seeing a lot of each other, plus the man controls death and the underworld, he’s not really someone to piss off.
I take Emmy to a casual place in a town near my family’s lake house. Emmy has been craving bacon avocado cheeseburgers like they are going out of style. This restaurant has great burgers, and I can tell Emmy approves since she is chowing down on her cheeseburger like it’s going to grow a pair of legs and run off.
“This place is so good! Why haven’t you taken me here before?” Emmy asks, finishing off her burger, and then starting on her fries.
“It’s been crazy with everything that is going on. I swear it wasn’t on purpose.”
“Well, I want food from here like every day till Ari comes.” Emmy is half joking, half serious.
“Whatever you want my love.”
“That’s right.” Emmy winks at me.
I shake my head at her. Emmy finishes every last morsel on her damn plate, and then orders a chocolate chip cookie sundae with extra whip cream and cherries. Where the hell Emmy is putting all this food is beyond me. It’s only the last few weeks that Emmy has gone crazy eating everything in sight. I think some of it might be stress, but I dare not say anything, or I might get my head bitten off.
All in all, Emmy does eat pretty good. She knows she has to eat healthy for the sake of the baby, plus Gemma is on her case about all the things she should and shouldn’t be eating or doing. I let Gemma handle telling Emmy what to do and not to do, because for some reason Emmy doesn’t bite her mother’s head off when she tells her something. Travis told me not to take it to heart, he says it’s a woman thing, and that us men will never understand. I agree with him.
After Emmy has stuffed her face, I have her teleport us to the spot. I don’t want her to overexert herself hiking, but I don’t let her know that. I just came up with some excuse that I’m sore from training today. If Emmy suspects I’m bullshitting her she doesn’t say anything.
…..
Carter is acting weird. I think he is going to propose, but I’m not totally sure. Carter does have a tendency to be romantic, and to do romantic stuff, so perhaps this is him just trying to do something romantic for me. After all, it's been hard to spend quality time together with everything that is going on. Between the war, my training, and all the other stuff going on, it’s been hard for us to spend time together.
I teleport us to the clearing that Carter wants. I don’t buy his excuse one bit that he’s sore from training. I know he doesn’t want me to do overexert myself, and since he’s been so sweet tonight, I’ll let it slide. Besides, I know Carter, and even if he was sore, he would still hike, or do anything physical.
Once we are at the clearing, I take in the beautiful scenery. The moon is full tonight, it’s big and beautiful. The stars are shining bright, I can see them clearly because there are no lights to obscure their beauty. Carter clears his throat, so I turn to face him, and when I do, he’s down on one knee with a ring in his hands.
“Emmy Rose Caine, I love you so much. I’m so glad you are my soulmate. I can’t wait to raise our little girl together and have more kids in the future. When I think of my future, I can’t picture it without you. Will you marry me?”
“Yes!” I shout.
Carter slides the ring on my left ring finger. I wrap my arms around him and kiss him the moment he stands up. I hear rustling in the trees, and there is my family and friends all cheering for Carter and me. They toss white flowers over our heads. I’m positively beaming. I’m so happy right now.
Everyone takes turns congratulating us. My parents pass around champagne in glass, but mine is sparkling apple cider. My parents and Calder make toasts. It’s a sweet celebration. Calder has his arm around Kyndle’s waist. Calder has fully embraced Kyndle as his soulmate, and I’m happy for him. Calder deserves to be happy, and Kyndle is nice, loyal, and kind, she has a good heart.
It’s late by the time we get home. I shower, and then crash in my bed. I’m so happy, and there is a part of me that is afraid all of this will get taken away from me. My fears ease as Carter gets into bed and wraps his arms around me. We are spooning since sleeping on my side is the only way I can sleep lately. Carter kisses me goodnight, and my fear slowly starts to go away. I fall asleep with happy thoughts of Carter and I with our baby girl.
