Chapter 35: Daughter

Nephael The day had been long and I had seen more people in one day than I ever cared to deal with again. As I had listened to the pleas and complaints of those who dwelled here I couldn't help but ignore them to think about my daughter. It seemed that no matter what I did I couldn't escape the thoughts of her well being and situation. Now that I had finally managed to wiggle away from the hold of those begging me for a change I let myself relax. Let the worry and anxiety show after seventy-nine hours of holding it all in. Before I could even make it all the way into the place I called home I was reaching down the mating bond for my husband. "Ecstan, Ecstan what is going on how are things going?" Three long days of not talking to my mate had made me grumpy and uncaring to those around me. While they didn't know all of the details about what was going on right now they did know that my mate was gone. It was unusual for any mate to get a little bit pissy when their mate was away from them for long periods of time. "My love, you sound stressed, is everything okay there? Has anyone been giving you trouble?" His concerned voice echoed in my head and I laughed a little. "I'm fine love, no one can touch me here you know that. If they tried the guards would stop them faster than they could even blink. Now answer my question, how are things there?" His hesitation told me that something was definitely up. "Ec, what's going on over there, what happened? What aren't you telling me?" His quiet sigh told me more about the situation than he knew. Ecstan almost never lets anything bother him and the fact that he was sighing about something told me he was frustrated. "You aren't going to like it Phel," I flopped down dramatically onto our bed even though there was no one to see what was going on. "I know that I am not going to like it, but that doesn't mean that I don't need to know. Please, just tell me what's happening to our little girl. Is she hurt, is she getting any better, I have to know Ecstan." I pleaded with my mate as I tried to keep in the fear that was clouding my thoughts. "Okay, umm….how do I even start? So, Elinn is doing better, I think I haven't exactly talked to her in a while," Ecstan started but I cut him off quickly. "What do you mean you haven't talked to her in a while? You went there to look after our baby and now you aren't even seeing her? What are you doing instead huh, what could possibly be more important than your only child!" I shriek ready to rip his head off. "No, no Nephael you are misunderstanding what I'm trying to say. I guess you wouldn't be confused if I could explain this all better. God, I am such an idiot sometimes! Listen I haven't left Elinn's side since I got here, or as close to her side as she would let me be anyways." The pain in that statement ripped me apart inside. "You know that she will get better Ec than she will be able to start to learn about who you really are, about who I really am. We will be able to finally be a family again, this time we can be one she'll remember. We just have to give her time, and some space to sort things out." I reassured him but the words he muttered did anything but for me. "Yeah, I'm sure she's got plenty of space now." "Ecstan you tell me right now exactly what is going on before I make my way over there and rip your favorite body part off and shove it so far up your rear end that you," Before I could finish my threat Ecstan was talking. "Fine! You want to know what's wrong? Well, Demetre and Ari have forcibly taken over Elinn's body and she isn't responding to a thing they're are trying to tell her. The can't even reach her because without realizing it she has used Demetre's shadows to create a wall and Demi can't figure out how to get through it. That means that the shadows are pulling her in and out of memories and whispering things to her, but we have no idea exactly what they are showing her or trying to convince her of. We have no clue if she is okay or hurting and it's driving us all a little insane that we can't do anything about it alright! Is that explanation good enough for you?!" Ecstan ranted and I couldn't say or do anything. I was completely frozen to the spot and at a loss for words. "I'm coming up there Ec, I'm coming up there right now and there is nothing you can do to convince me otherwise. Prepare them, let them know that I'm coming so they don't do something rash. I believe it is time I finally spent some mother-daughter time with my little girl." I hung up the phone immediately and started packing my bags. It had been a long time since I had somewhere like this, and I couldn't wait to be reminded of exactly why I loved it so much the first few times
