1 looked at him, surprised. “What secret? About who?
About you, Seth said, his expression dead serious.
‘Well, go ahead then.” I wasn’t convinced Seth knew any secret about me. Since gaining some online recognition, everything about me both good and bad. had been thoroughly exposed. What secrets could possibly remain?
Seth took a deep breath.
He clenched his jaw tightly, the words dying on his lips as he swallowed them back down. Whatever he wanted to pay seemed to cause his physical pain. He lowered his head, unable to meet my eyes.
His behavior completely hooked my curiosity.
Growing impatient and anxious for him to get back to the wedding venue, I pressed, ‘Just say it already.”
He suddenly looked up, his face contorted with an expression of absolute agony. “I always thought that as long as you didn’t know about this, I’d have a chance with you. That you could be with me without any pressure or constraints. But I was wrong. I’ve lost completely. His voice cracked. Anna, the truth you and-
A sudden knocking at the door made Seth abruptly fall silent.
We exchanged a glance, both seeing the tension in each other’s eyes.
Then Emily’s voice called from outside, “Anna, open up!”
I sighed with relief and looked at Seth. “It’s just Emily. She’s fine–you can say whatever you want. There are no secrets between us.
As I said this, I forgot that Emily hadn’t come alone.
Ethan had his arm around Emily as they strolled in casually. The moment he spotted Seth and me, his face took on a rather suggestive expression.
‘Seth, didn’t expect to see you here,” Ethan said with
ma smirk. ‘Should I give you my wedding gift now or wait until we’re at the venue?“.
Seth ignored him completely, his mood visibly darkening.
I sighed inwardly, knowing Seth wouldn’t be able to continue what he was saying.
“Let’s go,” I said to Seth. “Are you coming with us or heading back on your own?”
Aware that being seen together might cause problems, I added, “You’d probably get back faster on your own.”
I reached out, expecting Emily to help me up, but she clearly didn’t understand my gesture. Instead, Seth stepped in front of me and asked in a low voice “Can you walk?”
‘Anna, what’s wrong?” Emily noticed my sluggish movements and asked with concern.
I was about to say it was nothing when suddenly felt myself lifted into the air. Seth had scooped me up, saying, “I’ll just carry you to the car.”
In the
car,
the atmosphere was tense.
“Don’t worry,” Seth said. “My… my wife said she’ll help keep Blake distracted.”
Ethan perked up at this, his eyes darting between Seth and me. “Okay, what’s the plot here? I’m jumping into this show midway and I’m confused. Someo
fill me in?”
Chapter 252
Emily rolled her eyes, envering his mouth with her hand while smiling cerity, Daling, just that us
Ethan nedded obediently, fully committing to his silence.
I sighed internally. It seemed Seth knew Isabelle had no feelings for him, but he’d caffed her his wife, so he must have accepted as wahre at relationship.
Thinking about what Isabelle had told me yesterday, perhaps Seth wanted her to be with Blake after all.
Seth’s wedding was being held at his luxurious estate in the Paris suburbs.
As we arrived, I could see guests in expensive attire mingling on the immaculately decorated lawn, champagne glasses in hand, completely unaware of our secret mission.
We entered through the back garden, using an underground passage to access the main house.
My legs felt like lead, and each step was a struggle. Emily held me upright the entire way, her grip firm and reassuring.
By the time we finally reached the dressing room, I was practically collapsing, drenched in sweat.
At the doorway, Seth turned and gave me a long, deep look. His expression was solemn, lips pressed together, his normally confident eyes now subdued
He didn’t speak, but I heard his goodbye all the same.
He was saying that once he pushed open that half–closed door, he would become someone else’s husband, shouldering the responsibilities of family. Some feelings were destined to be buried deep, until even he would forget them.
I looked directly into his eyes, acknowledging his grand farewell.
Those few seconds felt like centuries. Then he smiled with acceptance. In that moment, both of us let go.
“Congratulations on your marriage!” I told him.
“I wish you happiness,” he replied.
He turned away, took a deep breath, and patted his stiff cheeks, forcing a smile onto his face.
The moment he pushed the door, Blake’s voice carried clearly from inside.
‘I’m not interested in you. I don’t like women who throw themselves at me. If you ever use Anna’s situation to trick me again, all cooperation between us ends immediately!”
