Chapter 94
Only after saying that did I belatedly realize I'd forgotten Lily was still there.
I glanced to the side.
Lily was smiling at Jason and me.
She rested her chin on her hands and winked at me. "Don't mind me, you two carry on."
My face flushed red as I swatted Jason's hand away.
Jason just smiled and didn't say anything more.
"Jason, do you want to join us?" Lily asked.
"No thanks, I'll eat over here." As Jason spoke, he sat down at the table next to ours.
My mouth twitched, but I sat down across from Lily anyway.
We didn't have much time for lunch, so we needed to eat quickly.
Just as the server was bringing our food, Jason suddenly stood up.
I thought he was leaving, but instead he bent down and picked up the flower stem whose petals had completely scattered on the floor.
Watching him do this made me feel a bit guilty.
After all, this was a flower Jason had given me, and I'd just used it as a weapon...
Jason glanced at me but didn't say anything.
After eating, Lily and I went to the front to pay.
"Ladies, that gentleman has already paid your bill," the server said with a smile.
I turned around in surprise, just in time to see Jason wink at me, kiss his fingers, and blow me a kiss.
Lily covered her mouth, trying not to laugh.
My whole body went stiff. I took Lily's arm and said, "Let's go, we need to get back to work..."
As we walked, Lily couldn't help teasing me. "Aren't you going to respond to him?"
I didn't dare look at Jason again and urged her in a low voice, "Let's just go..."
The moment we left the restaurant, Lily finally couldn't hold back her laughter!
She waved at me. "Alright, you head back to the office. I have something to take care of, so I'm off."
Before leaving, Lily gave me a knowing look. "I really think Jason is great. Why don't you just say yes to him?"
I glared at her and silently looked away.
After Lily left, I planned to drive back to the office.
Meanwhile, in the restaurant.
Jason found a set of keys where Sue had been sitting.
They were Sue's house keys.
Jason picked up the keys and was about to leave when two people approached him.
A middle-aged man walked in front, with a woman timidly keeping her head down beside him, not daring to look at Jason.
"Mr. Cooper, it really is you..." the middle-aged man said, staring at Jason in shock.
Jason found them familiar but couldn't immediately recall who they were.
"It's me, Mr. Cooper. I'm Michael Nelson. I used to work as deputy general manager at Glacier Corp's Sunrise City branch, until you fired me."
Michael lowered his head in shame as he said this.
With that reminder, Jason finally remembered him.
Five years ago, he had worked undercover at the Sunrise City branch, and Michael had been his direct supervisor.
Later, when the project Jason was responsible for had problems, Jason felt something was off. After investigating, he discovered that Michael and his daughter Wendy Nelson were behind it.
Jason then followed proper procedures to fire them both.
"What do you want?" Jason asked coldly.
Wendy hid behind Michael, trembling with fear.
Michael smiled, unconsciously rubbing his hands together in front of him.
"Mr. Cooper, we came to apologize to you. What we did back then was wrong. We're sorry!" Michael's voice trembled as he and Wendy bowed to Jason.
After being fired from Glacier Corp's branch, he couldn't find work anywhere else.
Every time he interviewed somewhere, once they did a background check and found out what he'd done, they rejected him immediately.
After being rejected repeatedly, Michael had no choice but to deliver food for a living.
Only later did he realize that Jason, whom he'd thought was just an ordinary person, was actually the heir to the Cooper family.
Compared to Michael's regret, Wendy was even more afraid.
Jason glanced at her, frowned slightly, but said nothing.
I walked to my car door, reached for my pocket, and realized my keys were missing.
I'd driven here, so the keys could only have been left at the restaurant.
I hurried back to the restaurant.
As soon as I got there, before I could say anything, Jason asked directly, "Looking for your keys?"
I nodded slightly.
The next moment, my hand felt warm.
Jason took my hand and placed the keys in my palm.
"Hold onto your keys, or what if some creep gets into your house?"
I paused and looked at him deeply.
Wasn't the person who most wanted my house keys standing right in front of me?
"Sue...?" A voice that wasn't exactly familiar but was familiar enough to disgust me suddenly spoke up.
My face immediately darkened, and when I saw Michael's face clearly, I frowned even more. "Mr. Nelson."
"I'm just an ordinary person now." Michael waved his hands repeatedly, carefully watching Jason's expression.
Seeing that Jason said nothing, he pushed Wendy, who had been hiding behind him, forward.
"Didn't you say you had something you wanted to tell Ms. Wilson in person?"
Only then did Wendy come out, her face pale.
She bowed deeply to me and said, "I'm sorry! What I did back then was wrong. I'm apologizing to you now. I hope you can forgive me!"
I pressed my lips together without speaking, just staring at her coldly.
The Wendy I remembered wasn't this timid.
When she was around me, she always acted superior and never looked at me properly.
Five years ago, when Jason and I were both still working in Sunrise City.
Wendy was my supervisor.
She liked Jason and wanted to pursue him, but she didn't want to be the other woman, so she privately threatened me.
She was really smart about it.
She threatened me using Jason's future.
If she couldn't have him, she'd rather destroy Jason!
Recalling the past, my feelings were complicated.
After breaking up with Jason, I also left Glacier Corp's branch.
Later, I heard they were fired, and Wendy was sent to prison.
Only then did I learn that the project accident Wendy had used to threaten me was actually something she'd staged herself.
She did it all to force me to break up with Jason.
