Chapter 59

Chapter 59

I shoved the last bite of noodles into my mouth, stood up abruptly, and said, "Mr. Ethan, I'm done eating. I'll head up first. Take your time!"

With that, I fled the restaurant like I was escaping.

I'd eaten lunch too fast, and my stomach felt a bit uncomfortable.

I was just thinking about getting myself some hot tea from the break room when a figure suddenly appeared in front of me.

The person I didn't want to see was now waiting downstairs at DT Corp, blocking my path.

"Can we talk?" Victoria raised an eyebrow, squinting as she looked me up and down.

Her gaze was too sharp and provocative, making me very uncomfortable.

"I don't think we have anything to talk about," I replied calmly.

But Victoria smiled, crossed her arms, and said with an arrogant attitude, "How could that be? I genuinely want to have a good talk with you, about Jason."

Meeting Victoria's hostile gaze, I still nodded and agreed.

Victoria curved her lips and turned first toward the coffee shop.

I couldn't guess what Victoria wanted from me, but since it was about Jason, I figured we should clear things up.

In a private room at the coffee shop.

Victoria sat across from me, lips curved, staring at me provocatively. "Jason and I met three years ago. He was working at the Netherlands branch then, and I happened to be there too."

Three years ago?

I couldn't help but secretly calculating in my mind.

But Jason and I had been together five years ago.

"Jason was seriously injured then, and I saved him." Victoria's words successfully shocked me.

"How did he get seriously injured?" I asked.

"He was ambushed." Victoria looked at me deeply.

I couldn't help pressing my lips together tightly, my heart feeling like it was being squeezed by a large hand, heavy and stifling.

I never imagined that during those five years apart, Jason had gone through such dangerous times.

And the person by his side then wasn't me.

Victoria kept watching my expression, her smile growing wider. "But all that's in the past. I was there with him during that time. Along the way, though there were difficulties and obstacles, there was mostly sweetness. He was busy with work while I studied. After he got off work, we'd walk the streets together, searching for all kinds of food."

Victoria paused, as if suddenly remembering something. "Oh, right, Jason doesn't really like foreign food, so most of the time we'd go back and cook for ourselves."

Listening to Victoria describe her past with Jason, my heart felt a fine, dense sourness and pain.

They were already so close. He must care about her.

Jason actually lied to me, saying they had no relationship at all.

If they had no relationship, would she come looking for me?!

Victoria talked a lot about things that happened between them in the Netherlands.

I barely listened, just feeling my mind in complete chaos.

"Bottom line, Jason is my boyfriend, and I hope you'll be sensible and stay away from him." After showing off, Victoria stared straight at me, her eyes full of undisguised hostility.

I frowned and said, "You should be saying this to Jason. He's the one who won't leave me alone."

"You're lying!" Victoria instantly raised her voice, scolding me without hesitation. "Do you really think you're that charming? You just have a pretty face, that's all. There are too many women in this world prettier than you. Why would Jason chase after you?"

She gritted her teeth, her resentful gaze looking like she wanted to tear me apart.

"I'm warning you, no matter what, if you keep being stubborn about being the other woman, don't blame me for ruining your reputation throughout Seaside City!"

Victoria stood up, staring down at me. "Jason is my man. You're not good enough for him."

With that, she turned and left, looking as proud as a victorious rooster.

I stared at her retreating figure, furious.

Was I the one pestering Jason?

Wasn't it Jason who kept approaching me again and again, no matter how hard I tried to drive him away?

That jerk Jason!

So Victoria was his girlfriend!

I pulled out my phone, opened my chat with Jason, and typed out a lot of words, but in the end, I deleted them all.

Forget it. Sending all that would make it seem like I really care about him.

I never thought Jason and I could have any future together anyway.

Even thinking this way, the anger of being humiliated to my face by Victoria still made me incredibly furious.

Back at the company, I started working.

Brian came back around this time, too.

He looked at me like he wanted to say something, but held back. I stared back at him expressionlessly.

Brian's lips moved, but in the end, he said nothing and returned to his own office.

Near closing time, Lily called.

"Sue, want to go out for hot pot tonight? It's gotten cold these past few days, perfect time for hot pot!"

I was feeling down with nowhere to vent, so talking to Lily would be nice.

So I agreed, "Sure, but my car's being fixed and I haven't picked it up yet."

"I'll come pick you up downstairs at your company, then we'll go get Jessica."

"Okay."

Right at closing time, I immediately grabbed my bag and went downstairs.

Getting into Lily's car, I couldn't help letting out a heavy sigh.

"What's wrong? You look so down. Is the car hard to fix?"

Lily looked at me strangely and continued asking, "Did we buy a lemon?"

I said dejectedly, "Don't make me feel worse. I told you before, no matter what, you should buy a new car, even a cheaper one, but you didn't listen."

Lily sighed helplessly. "No choice—used cars are cheaper."

I paused and added, "Now I feel like I got scammed."

A car bought for twenty thousand really wasn't as good as buying one at full price.

"So how much will this repair cost you?" Lily asked.

I shook my head. "Don't know yet. Jason contacted someone to fix it."

"When will it be ready?" Lily asked again.

"Should be fixed already, but Jason won't tell me the address of the repair shop. He's on a business trip now, so I can't go get it."

Mentioning Jason made me angry all over again.

Lily keenly noticed and asked tentatively, "Did Jason deliberately drag out the repair to make you unhappy?"

I shook my head. "It's even more ridiculous than that."

"What happened, what happened? Tell me quick." Hearing this, Lily immediately got curious.

She writes novels and loves hearing about these things.

I sighed softly. "Today, Jason's girlfriend, Victoria, came to see me."

My words instantly made Lily's eyes widen.

She said in disbelief, "Didn't Jason say he doesn't have a girlfriend? What's going on?"

"Victoria is his girlfriend."
