Chapter 261
I narrowed my eyes slightly, my gaze darkening.
I'd worried Luke would say something like this before, but I never expected him to actually be shameless enough to go this far.
We'd already cut ties, and he still had the nerve to say things like that to outsiders?
The person talking to Luke had their back to me, so I couldn't see their face clearly.
But from what Luke just said, I could roughly tell the other person was likely a business partner.
I frowned, got out of the car, and strode toward the entrance of Glacier Corp.
As I got closer, I could hear their conversation.
"I'm here to discuss a partnership with Mr. Cooper, and you're just blocking me like this?"
Luke sneered,
"Do you have an appointment? Without one, random people can't go in."
Luke really knew how to throw his weight around!
Even without an appointment, they should at least let people enter the company and register at the front desk.
Now he was just blocking people outside the company entrance—what did that look like?
I took a deep breath and walked over.
Another security guard recognized me. Seeing me arrive, he quickly rushed over, his tone anxious:
"Mrs. Cooper, thank goodness you're here! Your brother has already blocked three business partners outside today!"
"He's not following the rules. Just handle it according to your company regulations."
I said calmly.
The guard looked troubled: "Will that really work? But he says he's your brother, which puts us in a difficult position."
I could feel my temples throbbing. I took a deep breath, trying to stay as calm as possible.
"Don't listen to him. I have nothing to do with him."
"Really?"
The guard still seemed worried.
I nodded: "If he really had that connection, why would he be working as a security guard? Wouldn't it be better to just make him a senior executive?"
"You're right! So he's been lying!"
The guard's eyes lit up immediately. He walked over quickly and yanked hard on Luke's collar!
"Did you read the security handbook for nothing? If you can't do this job, leave now!"
Luke stumbled from being pulled, completely stunned for a moment, his eyes wide with disbelief:
"What are you doing? I'm Jason's brother-in-law. You dare treat me like this—believe it or not, I'll have Jason fire you!"
"The one getting fired should be you."
I walked over expressionlessly, my gaze falling coldly on Luke.
A flash of panic crossed Luke's eyes, then he said stubbornly:
"What are you doing here? I remember your company isn't here."
"I'm here to pick up my husband from work. Is there a problem?"
I sneered:
"So you've already done your homework, knowing I don't usually come here, so you're throwing your weight around?"
Jason was usually very busy and had no time to deal with these small matters.
Polaris Company, where I worked, was a forty-minute drive from here, so I wouldn't normally make a special trip after work.
But this had given Luke a loophole to exploit.
"Wh-what throwing my weight around? I didn't say anything wrong. Aren't I your brother? Even if we went to the hospital for a DNA test, I'd still be your brother!"
Luke argued.
I didn't respond to him. Instead, I first had someone escort the business partner who'd come to discuss cooperation inside, then walked toward Luke.
"What are you doing?"
Luke looked at me warily.
Without saying a word, I raised my hand and slapped Luke hard across the face!
I used all my strength. After that slap, my hand went completely numb.
Luke's head jerked to the side as he stumbled back two steps.
"You dare hit me?"
He realized what happened belatedly, his face darkening as he rushed forward to hit me back.
The two guards were quick—they grabbed Luke from both sides.
I stared at him coldly:
"I hit you, and I meant to. Since you can't understand human speech, I have nothing more to say to you. If you don't want to work, get lost now. Stop using connections here!"
Luke's face turned deathly pale.
He opened his mouth:
"Sue, you can't treat me like this. You promised me a stable job!"
I shot back: "Isn't it stable now? As long as you do your job properly and don't make mistakes, the company won't fire you."
"But this isn't the kind of work I wanted!"
"Too late. The contract doesn't specify what kind of work I have to arrange for you."
"You—!"
I rubbed my temples and waved my hand dismissively, instructing the others:
"Since everyone's here now, let me make this clear to all of you. Luke here was indeed arranged by me to work here, but that was just fulfilling a promise. He has no relationship with me whatsoever. If he doesn't want to cherish this job, then let him go."
With that, I headed upstairs.
I needed to talk to Jason about this.
When I reached the office, Jason looked at me in surprise.
He stood up on his own and quickly walked over to me, pulling me into a hug.
"Were you waiting too long? I'm almost done."
I shook my head: "Have you noticed anything wrong at the company?"
Jason raised an eyebrow: "No, why?"
"I just saw Luke throwing his weight around downstairs."
I told Jason everything that had happened downstairs.
Jason's brow furrowed slightly. He paused:
"I'll have someone handle it."
He turned back and picked up the intercom: "Come up here."
Five minutes later, a senior executive rushed up, his face full of tension.
"Mr. Cooper."
"Manage your people properly, or your position can be replaced."
Jason said expressionlessly and calmly.
The executive broke out in a cold sweat, nodding repeatedly: "Yes, yes, yes, I'll handle it right away."
I didn't know how he handled it.
But when we left the company, Luke was nowhere to be seen.
In the car, I pursed my lips.
"Luke is really shameless. Having him work here as a security guard was too good for him."
Jason smiled: "You're still the best—you spotted the problem as soon as you got here."
I looked at him helplessly:
"You need to pay more attention to this!"
"I understand. It's already handled."
Jason leaned over and kissed my cheek: "Don't worry, let's go home."
"Okay."
I saw Luke again a week later.
When I ran into him, I was out shopping with Lily.
Lily gently tugged at my sleeve and nodded toward behind me: "Look over there. Isn't that your former brother?"
I followed Lily's gaze and was somewhat surprised.
Luke seemed to be doing very poorly—his cheeks were sunken and he had stubble all over his face.
He was wearing a cleaning service uniform and was mopping the floor with his head down.
Not far from him stood another person in uniform, staring straight at him.
Luke had just stopped to rest when that person immediately pulled out a notebook to record something, then walked up to Luke.
"Work time isn't for you to slack off. This is already the fourth time this morning. One more time and you can leave."
Luke frowned, his tone dissatisfied:
"I'm still a person, aren't I? Can't I have any rest time at all?"
"If you don't want to do it, plenty of people do. If you don't want to work, then leave."
The person sneered.
Luke's face turned ashen. He clenched his teeth hard, then suddenly looked up, his gaze falling on me.
