Chapter 249
"You..."
Luke wanted to say something, but Jason cut him off, "I hate clingy people the most. Don't push my patience again and again."
He looked at Jason with some apprehension, his lips moving, "I'll leave first. We can talk about some things next time."
"There won't be a next time, unless you come with a severance agreement."
I spoke to his retreating back.
Luke's steps paused almost imperceptibly, then he clearly quickened his pace to leave.
Jason's grip on my hand tightened.
He pulled me to face him, his beautiful deep eyes now filled with heartache, "Honey, you really suffered before."
I smiled, "It is okay, it's all in the past."
I'm not someone who likes to dwell on past pain.
Especially when I know that pain came from my so-called family, I have even less hope.
They won't feel sorry for me, and they won't feel guilty about it.
They'll just think it's natural, and believe that I'm being petty for caring about these things.
"Then let's go home."
Jason nodded firmly and took my hand to get in the car.
I looked at him with a half-smile, "Mr. Cooper, are you trying to leave work early?"
I waved my phone.
"It's only noon, still far from quitting time."
Jason looked at me quietly, then finally sighed, "Honey, sometimes I really don't know what to say about you."
I knew he felt sorry for me.
My heart felt warm.
I took the initiative to wrap my arms around Jason's neck, stood on my toes and gently kissed his lips.
"Honey."
I looked at him very seriously and said, "Thank you so much. Because of you, I have the courage to stand in front of Luke and Cora with my back straight and reject them. And it's also because of you that I found the family love I've been longing for."
Every time at Old Cooper Mansion, the harmony and everyone's care for me silently told me one thing—what I once longed for, what I thought was out of reach, is now all around me.
I do not need to envy anything anymore.
Because now I have the best lover and the best family.
After Jason's eyes changed several times, he finally sighed helplessly.
He pinched my cheek, "I'll pick you up after work, let's go out to eat."
"What about Jessica?"
"I'll call Grandma and have her pick up Jessica to the Old Mansion."
"Won't that be a bit inappropriate?"
Jason raised his eyebrows matter-of-factly, "What's wrong with that? Grandma can't wait for us to be together all the time. She's been hoping for it."
What Tamsin was hoping for was obviously self-evident.
My face burned, and I glared at Jason playfully.
"Whatever! I'm going back to the company!"
"Okay, drive safely."
Before quitting time, Jason had already sent a message.
It was a selfie of him leaning against the car door with an incredibly showy smile.
Jason: [Honey, your husband has been delivered. When are you coming down to sign for it?]
I don't know where Jason got that rose-red suit jacket from, paired with a flashy tie. The top three buttons of his shirt were unbuttoned, loose and casual, revealing his delicate collarbone and a small part of his chest that stirred the imagination.
Very handsome, and very flamboyant.
I stared at the photo for a while.
"Ms. Wilson, please handle this document."
Ophelia's voice suddenly rang out, startling me. I quickly closed my phone.
"Okay, Ms. Blake."
Ophelia looked at me in surprise and asked with concern, "Are you okay? Why is your face so red? Do you have a fever?"
"No, nothing!"
I spoke rapidly, shaking my head vigorously, "I just wore too much today, it's a bit hot."
In my heart, I cursed Jason over and over again.
He did it on purpose, messing with my mind during work!
The phone vibrated on the desk.
Another message from Jason.
Jason: [Honey, why aren't you saying anything? Don't you like this outfit?]
I like it, I like it very much!
I like it so much I almost got caught by my boss!
I typed through gritted teeth.
Sue: [Work hours, Mr. Cooper, please behave yourself!]
I said that, but my mind kept uncontrollably conjuring up Jason's appearance in the photo.
No, no, beauty is distracting.
I raised my hand and gently patted my face, forcing myself to concentrate.
Finally finished the last bit of work.
It was just quitting time. I quickly packed up my things and jogged to the elevator.
Bruce happened to be in the elevator too.
When he saw me, his expression was somewhat complicated.
He opened his mouth but said nothing.
I did not pay attention to him either, my heart and eyes full of anticipation for seeing Jason soon.
I've figured Bruce out recently.
A young person, fresh out of college, proud and ambitious.
Wanting to accomplish something to prove himself.
It's good that he has ambition and drive, but if he wants to climb over me to get ahead, sorry, no can do.
The elevator fell into an awkward silence.
Soon, we reached the first floor.
The elevator doors opened. Bruce looked at me hesitantly.
He seemed to want to say something, but I ignored him directly and strode out of the elevator.
"Honey!"
From far away, I could see Jason in that particularly flashy and eye-catching rose-red suit jacket.
I have to say, if it were someone else dressed like this, I would only think they were too showy and ugly.
But Jason is different.
The bright, bold clothes not only didn't overwhelm his handsomeness, but made him even more charming.
It was rush hour, and many passersby couldn't help but look at him.
"Honey."
Jason walked up quickly, put his arm around me, and kissed my forehead.
He let go of me and struck a pose, "How is it? Does my new look today look good?"
I looked him up and down and nodded, "Good-looking. Why did you suddenly change your look today?"
"Richard said men need to be versatile, otherwise they get boring."
Jason opened the car door for me, "Although we're already married, I have a strong sense of crisis."
I couldn't help but laugh.
What kind of logic is that?
Jason drove, and we went together to the newly opened sky garden at the commercial center for dinner.
By coincidence, we ran into my former boss, Brian, there.
Brian and Elizabeth were sitting at the next table.
Separated by a partition, I could just hear their conversation.
"Elizabeth, I'm sorry."
Brian's voice was full of guilt, "Our wedding may have to be postponed."
Postponed? Why?
I was puzzled.
I remember Brian and Elizabeth's wedding should be coming up soon. Why was it suddenly postponed?
Elizabeth's voice also sounded muffled, "It's okay, Brian. As long as you're willing to marry me in the end, as long as I'm marrying you, I'm willing to wait however long."
Brian sighed, "Can not you ask me why?"
