Chapter 146
This was Jessica's first time sleeping next to us.
She was so excited that she kept rolling around on the bed.
I was actually still awake, knowing it was best not to engage with her right now—she'd calm down eventually.
But Jason clearly didn't get that.
He lightly flicked Jessica's little head with his finger and warned in a low voice, "Behave yourself. If you disturb Mom's sleep, I'll throw you out."
Jessica was silent for a moment, then asked in a surprised tone, "Dad, am I really your biological child? Maybe Mom should look for my real father?"
Jason gritted his teeth, "Go to sleep!"
I silently curved my lips into a smile.
Good night.
I slept incredibly soundly that night.
When I opened my eyes, beside me was Jessica's soft sleeping face, and behind her was Jason's handsome face in deep sleep.
The scene before me was so beautiful, so beautiful it made me feel a bit dazed and hard to believe.
Like a dream, so unreal.
Jason's words from last night suddenly echoed in my mind.
Maybe I really could try to trust Jason?
Jason went to the office, while I took Jessica to the amusement park.
I'd always wanted to take Jessica to an amusement park for a fun day out, but I was always too busy with work and didn't have much time to spend with her.
"Mom! I want to ride that pirate ship!" Jessica pulled my hand, excitedly pointing at the pirate ship.
I patted her little head, "Okay."
Knowing Jessica really liked these thrilling rides, I specifically found an amusement park with children's thrill rides.
I played with Jessica for a long time.
When Jessica came down from the roller coaster, her little face was flushed red, full of excitement—clearly having a great time.
I took out a handkerchief to wipe her sweat and handed her an ice cream.
Jessica contentedly ate her ice cream, her gaze moving from the children's rides to the adult rides in the distance.
"Mom, can I go play those rides over there? They look even more fun!"
I glanced over and shook my head, "No, Jessica is still a little kid. You can ride them when you grow up."
"Okay then!" Jessica nodded, quite disappointed, but the next moment she perked up again and ran off to queue for another ride.
The more I watched Jessica's adorable behavior, the more I loved it. I couldn't help but take out my phone and snap lots of photos of her.
I used to not understand why people did this.
But ever since I had Jessica, my phone has been filled with nothing but photos of Jessica.
I didn't expect Jessica to have so much energy. It was getting quite late, so I had to practically drag her away.
Seeing Jessica's reluctant expression, I felt both amused and sad.
I'd been too busy before and hadn't spent enough time with my child.
I took Jessica to the mall for dinner, and as we were leaving, we unexpectedly ran into an unwelcome visitor.
In the distance, Helen and an unfamiliar middle-aged woman were walking side by side, heading straight toward us.
When she saw me, her expression instantly darkened.
Then Helen's gaze fell on Jessica, and she quickly walked over.
She narrowed her eyes, her look critical and harsh.
"What's your name?"
Jessica pressed her little lips tightly together, turned her head away, and said nothing.
Helen became even more displeased, her eyebrows shooting up as she raised her voice, "Didn't you hear me asking you a question? Are you mute?"
I frowned, pulled Jessica behind me, and said coldly, "Jessica isn't mute. She just doesn't talk to rude, unpleasant people!"
Helen clearly didn't expect me to say that.
She was stunned for a moment, then said through almost gritted teeth, "I knew it. A woman from a nobody family like you—not only do you have no manners yourself, but the child you raise is the same! How embarrassing!"
The middle-aged woman beside Helen asked in confusion, "Who are they?"
Helen snorted coldly, looking at me with contempt, "A shameless woman clinging to my son."
The middle-aged woman suddenly understood, looking at me with disgust and disdain, "She's the one from the internet, right? The woman who already has a child but still shamelessly clings to Jason?"
Her gaze swept over me and Jessica very rudely.
"Her daughter is already this big, and she's bringing her daughter along to seduce men. How shameless!"
I ignored her and stared straight into Helen's eyes, saying, "My manners are none of your business, and how I raise Jessica has nothing to do with you either."
I soothingly rubbed Jessica's little head and continued with a cold laugh, "Besides, when facing someone like you with no morals, no class, and no patience, I think Jessica ignoring you is perfectly fine. Even one more word to you would be a waste of breath!"
Helen's face twisted with anger.
She was breathing heavily, her chest rising and falling rapidly.
Before Helen could speak, the woman beside her was already shrieking excitedly, "Oh my God! What kind of person is this? So rude!"
"Helen, you need to make your son break up with her right away. She doesn't even respect you or take you seriously. If she's like this now, what will happen in the future?"
The more she said this, the worse Helen's expression became.
I stared coldly at the two people in front of me.
Jason had already told me before—there's no need to be polite when dealing with Helen!
And even if Jason hadn't said so, after she bullied Jessica in front of me like that, if I could still hold back, I wouldn't be a mother!
Besides, telling Helen off like this felt really good!
Jessica had been keeping a cold little face the whole time, but now she finally understood what was going on.
Her eyes turned to Helen, "Are you my grandma?"
Helen seemed to suddenly find something to criticize, saying disapprovingly, "That's rude. You should call me grandma."
Jessica tilted her head, staring straight at her, "Really? But why have I never seen you at home? I know—you divorced grandpa, didn't you?"
Helen frowned but said nothing.
Jessica had no intention of letting her off that easily and continued asking, "Grandpa is really nice. Why did you divorce him? Did you do something wrong?"
At these words, Helen's expression changed slightly. She glared at me viciously, then grabbed the middle-aged woman and turned to leave.
I showed a helpless smile on my face, crouched down and pinched Jessica's little cheeks, "You're quite the talker. Who taught you to say all that?"
Jessica hugged my hands with both of hers, pouting, "Mom, is that person really Dad's mom?"
She didn't even want to call Helen grandma.
I nodded in acknowledgment.
Jessica's little face scrunched up, "She talks mean and is annoying. Jessica doesn't like her."
I rubbed her little head, "It's okay, Mom doesn't like her either. We don't need to pay attention to her."
Jason had a dinner engagement that evening and wouldn't be home for dinner.
After Jessica and I finished eating, Jessica was tired from playing all day and went upstairs to bed early.
I sat in the living room watching TV.
Just then, Jason came home.
He naturally sat down beside me, stretched out his long arm and pulled me into his embrace, "You watch this every day. Is it really that good?"
Ever since we started sleeping together, his actions around me had become increasingly intimate and natural.
