Chapter 100 Bastard Father
The two walked out one after the other. Amelia walked to the back of the car and took out the car keys to open the trunk. She bent down to take out a roll of packaged painting and handed it to Christopher.
Christopher reached out to take it but accidentally touched her fingers.
A tingling sensation spread through his fingertips and he was momentarily stunned, standing still as he looked at Amelia.
His eyes were filled with boundless tenderness, which was an unmistakable sign of affection.
Not far away, Emory, who was standing under the shade of a tree smoking, saw this scene. He quickly took out his phone to snap a photo and sent it to Ryan.
This was something Ryan had specifically instructed him to do and Emory dared not disobey.
Ryan heard the WhatsApp notification sound while sitting at his desk reviewing documents. He picked up his phone and opened the picture sent by Emory.
His originally calm face showed a hint of mockery in his eyes.
He put down the phone and suppresed the turmoil in his heart. He picked up the document he hadn't finished reading and continued to flip through it. Then he signed it casuallyand put it back in its place.
Suddenly, he raised his hand and swept the documents off the desk onto the floor.
Charles, holding a cup of coffee, knocked on the door and entered the room. Hearing the loud noise, he was startled. He quickly placed the coffee on the desk and bent down to pick up the documents.
As he picked them up and placed them back on the desk, he cautiously observed Ryan's expression.
Although Ryan's face remained unchanged, his eyes were cold and grim. Charles didn't dare to breathe loudly and carefully said, "Mr. Martin, your coffee."
Ryan glanced at the coffee cup without saying a word.
Charles then tiptoed out, afraid of provoking him.
After taking a few steps out, he heard Ryan pick up the phone. Ryan dialed a number and asked, "How was your first day of apprenticeship?"
The voice was very gentle and Charles was stunned.
Charles didn't know what the other person said, but Ryan smiled faintly. He said, "Our Amelia is amazing, being able to appraise ancient paintings on her first day."
The tone was very doting.
Charles found it strange. How could a domineering CEO, who was on the verge of anger, suddenly become so gentle when making a phone call?
At the same time, in front of Antique Charm.
Amelia looked at Ryan on her phone and advised, "You should drink more water and less coffee. Too much coffee can affect your sleep."
"Okay, I'll listen to you." Ryan picked up the coffee on the desk, walked to the trash can, and poured it out.
As he walked, he asked, "It's almost noon. Shall we have lunch together?"
Amelia smiled, "No need, I'll just grab something nearby."
Ryan replied, "Then I'll take you out for a nice dinner tonight. We must celebrate your first day of apprenticeship."
"Okay," Amelia responded and hung up the phone.
Christopher stood silently by and listened to the conversation. He had no expression on his face but a whirlwind of emotions in his heart.
Amelia put her phone in her pocket and smiled at him, "Mr. Martin, why don't you open the painting and see if you're satisfied?"
Christopher smiled faintly, "I know your painting skills, no need to look."
"Alright, I'll head back to the store then." Amelia smiled and turned to leave.
"Okay, go ahead." Christopher looked at her with lingering affection in his eyes, a stark contrast to his cold exterior.
Unfortunately, Amelia didn't see the deep affection in his eyes and turned to walk back to the store.
After a few steps, her phone rang again.
Amelia took out her phone and saw it was Juliet, a neighbor from Emily's neighborhood. She felt something was wrong. She stopped and answered, "Juliet, what's the matter?"
Juliet said anxiously, "Amelia, something's wrong at your mom's house. There's a lot of noise and fighting. I knocked on the door for a long time, but no one answered. Do you have the house key? Come back quickly!"
Amelia was shocked and agreed, "Okay! I'll be right back!"
After hanging up, she saw Emory smoking under the tree and quickly called him over.
Emory hurriedly threw away the cigarette and stomped it out. He started the car and drove towards her.
Christopher was about to leave but saw Amelia's panicked expression and guessed something was wrong. He quickly walked up to her and asked, "What's wrong? Do you need me to take you?"
Despite being very worried about Emily, Amelia didn't want to trouble him and politely declined, "No, I'll have Emory take me back."
Christopher hesitated for a moment, then took out a small silver engraved dagger from his pocket and handed it to her, "Take this. At least you can protect yourself if there's danger."
Amelia shook her head, "I don't want it."
Christopher grabbed her hand and forced the dagger into it, "It's just a dagger. You gave me a painting, I should give you something in return."
Afraid she would refuse, he added, "I don't like owing people favors."
After saying that, he turned and left.
Amelia didn't have time to think too much and took the dagger into the store. She greeted Royce, grabbed her bag, and left, getting into the car.
Amelia told Emory to go to Meadowbrook City, looking anxious and nervous. She was sitting in the back seat and constantly called Emily.
The phone could be connected, but no one answered.
Emory, understanding what had happened from Amelia's actions, sent a message to Ryan while waiting at a red light: [Mr. Martin, something urgent happened at Mrs. Martin's mother's house.]
Half an hour later, Amelia arrived at Meadowbrook City.
Before reaching the door, she heard the sound of things being thrown and a man's shouting, along with Emily's yelling.
Amelia hurriedly took out her key and opened the door.
She saw the living room in a mess, with broken cups everywhere, fruit scattered on the floor, chairs askew, and the sofa and coffee table pushed out of place.
Emily, with disheveled hair, was wrestling with a strange man.
The man, while hitting, warned, "Give me ten million dollars, or don't blame me for being rude!"
Emily angrily said with red eyes, "Give up on that thought! I won't give you a single penny!"
They were so engrossed in their fight that they didn't notice anyone entering the house.
Amelia looked coldly at the man and raised her voice, "Who are you? Why are you causing trouble in our house?"
The man turned to look at her and Amelia finally saw his face.
He had a square face with graying temples, but his eyes were puffy and bloodshot. He looked about fifty years old and had a fierce appearance.
Emily saw Amelia and had a moment of panic in her eyes.
She quickly broke free from the man's grip, ran over, and pulled Amelia aside. She whispered, "Why are you here? Who told you to come?"
"Juliet from next door called me, saying there was a fight at home," Amelia replied truthfully.
Hearing this, Emily pushed her towards the door, "I'm fine, you should leave."
Amelia refused to leave and checked her up and down for injuries. Seeing none, she tidied Emily's messy hair and asked, "Mom, who is he? Why is he asking for ten million dollars? Do you owe him money?"
Emily was about to speak when the man snorted coldly, "I'm your dad! Eugene! You don't even recognize me!"
