Chapter 23 Our Third Musketeer

We are just back from Christmas vacation, and I have to say this one was the best in a very long time. On Christmas day, not only did Sade surprise the shit out of me by gifting me an entire art studio, but I spent the day with Haden and his family. I really like them, they make me remember what it was like to actually have family, and act like family.
I could tell Sade didn’t want to leave after meeting Haden’s parents, but it would get awkward if he didn’t, and finally, he left. I spent the whole day watching Christmas movies, we made cookies, we played video games, and I will admit Haden kicked my ass. Of course, I had never played, as it was never my thing. Now though, I will most definitely be playing as I know we have a system or 2 at the house. That way I can play with Haden and not get stomped so bad. We were laughing hysterically though. It felt good to laugh again.
When Sade came and picked me up he asked me a million questions. Did I have fun, what exactly did we do, how is his family, did anyone make me feel uncomfortable? I wanted to say yeah, you, but I didn’t.
He mentioned that perhaps he would learn to play those games with me as he’d also never thought about it really. I just gave a non-committal we’ll see. I can’t honestly believe he would be willing to play those with me when he’s never played them before
Now, today Haden and I are in our 1st period English class. The door opens and a new girl walks in. She’s rather short, with a cute black pixie haircut, and she has very blue eyes. She clears her throat and the teacher looks up and smiles. She goes to the teacher's desk with a small piece of paper.
“Class this is our new student Sarah Micheals, please make her feel welcome and if she needs assistance finding one of her classes please be kind.” Our English teacher is older with small glasses and she looks down her nose out of them and we all snicker.
The only vacant desk is next to me back here in the back corner of the room. Haden is a couple of rows over in the middle. She comes to the empty desk and puts her book bag down and takes a seat. The teacher gives her a book.
“Sarah, you can get notes about what we have been studying from Rain. She’s an excellent student and takes very good notes.” She smiles at me and I feel my face burst into flames but I smile and nod.
Sarah looks back at me and smiles a huge smile, and I can’t help but smile back. Thus starts my 2nd friendship in this place. She fits so well with Haden and me, it’s like the 3 of us have known each other for years.
Sarah’s father is a very well-known architect, and he just got a huge contract with the City of Chicago, so they moved to the area. They checked out the suburbs and found a very nice house in a very affluent neighborhood. So, that’s why Sarah joined in the middle of the year. Her mother is a doctor, so she’s not around much either. That is one thing we have in common, she has very little parental contact and I have practically none.
One afternoon after school Sarah is over so we can do a project in our science class that we have together. Sade is hanging around as he always is if I am not in my room hiding out. Sarah’s eyes get huge the first time she sees him.
“Who’s the good-looking guy?” I wrinkle my nose.
“Ah, that’s my stepbrother Sade. He’s going to be a Senior next year.” she nods but I do see her checking him out from time to time.
There is one thing that Sarah introduced me to. I love to read but I read a lot of classics or other types of books, and there are some that have romantic elements and even scenes, but she introduces me to romance novels. The ones with all the hot half-naked guys all over the cover. So we often talk about them when we are alone and just being girls together.
“So, now that you have been reading the books I gave you, which cover do you think has the hottest guy?” I laugh at that question.
“I like the one who has long hair actually. I never would have thought that, but he’s really hot.” I giggle as I say it.
“Oh gosh, that is “Love’s Savage Desire” where he’s a Scottish Lord, and his name is Ian. Yeah, he is definitely oober hot girl.”
So now I have 2 very good friends. We all hung out and did things together, and it never mattered to us that Haden was a guy, and he didn't care if we were girls. We just all had fun together. Sarah and I both spent time at Haden’s house because his family was so great. Sade still didn’t like me spending so much time there or spending so much time with my friends period, but I had kind of started blowing him off with all of it.
He’d been making plans to visit a few campuses for his College classes. His grades were really good and so he could pretty much probably go wherever he wanted to. He wasn't constrained by needing scholarships or anything. I was wondering where he would choose to go. Would it make our parents come back because he wasn’t here, or would they deem that Zoey and I were old enough to be on our own now? Zoey spent so little time at the house that it would soon feel like I lived in this big huge place all alone.
I wasn’t sure how that would go, but I guess I’d find out. One thing I was looking forward to was Sade not watching me constantly.
