Chapter 13 Not Acceptable

I am waiting in the dark. My predator is near the surface and practically purring in anticipation of what is about to happen. I hear her noisily clomping up the steps, and she has no idea that I am here, or what is waiting for her. I don’t think she has ever truly grasped who and what I am.
The door opens, and before she can turn on the light, I strike, grabbing her by the throat and slamming her against the wall, “What the fuck, help.” She tries to scream, but I slam my hand over her mouth, and hold her up against the wall.
Eventually her eyes adjust to the very little amount of light coming into the room, and she can see that it’s me. Her eyes get huge, not really believing what she is seeing.
“It’s time for you and I to have a talk, little sister. I have let this go on long enough, but no more. You will not bother Rain again. If you don’t listen to me, I swear to you, you will find your life becomes a hell you can’t even imagine. You know who our father works for. You know that they have very unsavory associates. Tomilino may not deal with selling human flesh, but there are those in his circles that do. So, a nice young, pretty blond like you would fetch a high price I’m sure. So, don’t fuck with me Zoey or you will find yourself on your knees in a very undesirable location. If I wasn't able to sell you, don’t worry, I would just kill you instead. So again you will leave Rain alone, from now on. Your friends will also leave Rain alone or I will hold you responsible for their actions. This is your only warning Zoey.”
With that I throw her to the floor, step over her, and out of her room, closing the door behind me. I hope that she heads my warning, because this will in fact be the only one she gets. I am not bluffing or lying to her. I will do exactly as I threatened. I will not allow her or anyone else to be a threat of any kind to Rain.
I go to my room and shut the door. Once at my desk I pull up the house cameras on my laptop. I check in on Rain and find her asleep in her bed. Her television is on, but she is curled up in the fetal position and asleep. I decided to let her sleep right now, no doubt she had a headache.
Then I pull up a messaging app I hardly ever use. In fact there would be only like 2 people besides myself who would know I even have access to this. I type out a simple message, “I need to ask for advice.”
It takes a while, but one thing I very much am is patient. I don’t get anxious about time and something happening right now. I am able to think about what has to happen, and all of the small details in between, and lay things in place for a while. So that has always been a good thing.
Eventually I hear a ding, “Ask”
“What would be the best way to take care of someone who is harassing someone. He’s a student at the Academy. He’s Zoey’s “boyfriend”. He hurt Rain, he attacked her. He needs to pay.”
“How is Rain, and was Zoey involved?”
“She is doing okay, she didn’t have a concussion, they assaulted and attacked her, but she held her own. Yes, I have told her that behavior will never be tolerated and laid out consequences for continued harassment of Rain, and she is responsible for any friends she has do it for her.”
“Do you need assistance with the consequences?”
“Not unless she doesn’t heed my warning.”
“Very well, name of the boy.”
“Travis Mitchell. He and Zoey are both suspended for one week after the Christmas Holidays are completed.”
“Is your father coming home for the holidays?”
“No.”
“Consider it a Christmas Gift. It’s handled.”
“Thank you.”
That was the end of the conversation, and the other line terminated. I knew if I ever abused this connection, the consequences would be dire. I also knew that should I use it wisely, and cultivate its usefulness, it would open untold doors for me in the future. So, I used it very wisely.
Over the next few days I attempted to engage Rain in teaching me about her family’s traditions for Christmas prior to her mother marrying my father. She baked chocolate chip cookies, while I was present, I didn’t bake, I simply watched her, and I considered it an extremely pleasant evening.
One evening she had me watch several Christmas movies. Once again, I didn't see any real enjoyment in this other than I was next to Rain and she enjoyed it. I liked making her happy, and I liked spending time with her being able to simply watch her. Zoey, wisely, stayed away from both of us.
I honestly wasn’t sure if Zoey had thought that being my sibling would stay my hand from hurting her, but I did hope that she understood the seriousness to which I was expressing the situation. I hoped she knew how very close she had come to the very consequences I had explained.
From now on, no one would ever be more important to me than Rain. That meant Rain received all of the emotions I could possibly muster. She was the one who would always receive my protection. She was able to depend upon me with no hesitation or question, not that she was aware of that yet.
Even if it was between my father or Rain, she would win with no contest. I would eliminate absolutely anyone and everyone necessary to take care of her and make her happy.
After the holidays she and I were driven back to school. I watched her go to her own building for her class and just observed as always. It wasn’t until later that day I heard that Travis Mitchell and his family’s house burned down, and he received extensive burns to his body. He was alive, but he was hospitalized for a very long time.
I smiled, and was pleased that he had been taken care of. Then I made sure to spread the word that Rain was off limits to bullying of any sort. That I would personally take care of anyone hurting or harassing her at any time. From that day forward, no one bullied Rain again.
