Chapter 9: His Secrets and Choices
Kael's POV
“We need to talk. Don't run away from me!” Jessica shouted through the hallway and she's not leaving me alone.
I headed inside my office and sat on my couch, trying to ignore her because she's being unreasonable. I am proud of what Selena did to her father, but I know it's not the end. He will return to take the daughter I took from him, and I'm not letting him do that.
“Is this really about duty and the bond, Kael?” She inquired, crossing her arms and raising her eyebrow at me.
I furrowed, “Yes, of course. Is there anything else? She is my mate. I've been hearing her cries for a month, and I thought the moon goddess was messing with me. But she led me to her.”
“Exactly! The moon goddess gave you the wrong mate because I am the right mate for you! I've been with you for years, and we both know that my father was looking forward to you taking me as your Luna. But instead you chose that unworthy woman,” she commented.
“Selena is not unworthy. She is my chosen one!” I exclaimed.
She didn't say anything and just looked at me. I shook my head in this belief before massaging my temple. I lean my head on my couch, and close my eyes.
“We both know why you took her here. Don't make me look like a fool, Kael. I know you spoke with a werewolf council 1 month ago, and now you take that woman out of nowhere and we don't even consult you.”
I exhaled sharply, “That's none of your concern, Jessica.”
“Well, it is my concern. She disobeys her father in front of your people, so it means she will earn the respect very soon. However, she brings a problem into the pack. Her father won't leave her alone until she decides to go with him,” she pointed out. “Tell me the truth,” she added.
I opened my eyes, stared at the ceiling and thought about my discussion with the werewolf council 1 month ago.

“We are giving you the throne with one condition.”
I frowned, “What? I am rightfully owner of that crown yet you wanted to give me a condition before taking it?
Knox groaned, “The alpha king is sick. He is isolated to prevent the virus from spreading, and we found out that your ancestors had a part of the royal family. You have 1/4 of royal blood, so practically you're not really fit to be the next king. Since the alpha king has no descendants, we decided to choose the next ruler from your blood.”
After finding out my origin and I have royal blood in me, I immediately consulted the werewolf council about it and they didn't deny it. However, they're giving me conditions that are annoying and testing my patience.
“Fine. What do you want?” I questioned.
“There is a woman who was a fruit of a forbidden love. She was half werewolf and half vampire. Her blood will not bring peace towards the two races, but destruction and bloodshed. The vampires will use her ability and strength to defeat us once they find out she's a hybrid from their race,” he began.
“What do you want me to do with her?”
“What needed to be done, Kael.”
My eyebrows met, confused with his words but I eventually widened to realize what he meant. “You want me to kill her.”
“Indeed.”
“I'm not using my hands to kill an innocent woman who doesn't even know her origin just because the werewolf council was scared of her ability,” I commented.
“That's your only choice to take the crown. You have one year to do it. If you fail, I'll send someone to finish the job.”

“Kael!” Jessica snapped her finger to my face.
I hit her hand away before standing up and went to the window. I open it, exhaled the fresh air and didn't listen to her.
“She will stay with us, Jessica. Final answer,” I muttered.
“Seriously? What am I to you, Kael?” She asked.
I didn't answer and soon she hugged me from behind. She locked her arms to my waist, not wanting to let me go.
“Let me go. I'm not changing my mind,” I repeated.
She lean her face on my back, feeling her warm breath. “I love you, Kael. I always love you. But why are you hurting me like this? Why did you take that woman in and lied about your bond with her?”
I remove her arms, turned and grabbed her throat. “I didn't lie.”
Jessica touch my face and pulled herself closer to me, locking her lips to mine. I pushed her away and glared, “Leave!”
“She just came here. The moon goddess might bestow her to you, but she doesn't belong to us! Accept it, Kael! She is not for you!” She yelled.
“Enough!” I slammed the table and it break in half.
Jessica twitch on her post, crying. I calm down myself, clenched my fist as I looked away.
“Why are you rejecting me after showing me your love? After that… night…” she mumbled.
“It was an honest mistake. A mistake that I will never do again, Jessica. Touching you under the moonlight is my fault, and giving you hope was my mistake. I should have told you before, but you were too desperate. I only see you as my younger sister,” I explained in calm voice.
She chuckled sarcastically, “Younger sister my ass. I will prove to you she's not the one, Kael. Selena is not for you.”
“Jessica.”
She turn around and left my office with big steps. The door was left opened, making me saw who was standing outside. Our gaze met but I can only see on Selena's eyes are worried and understanding.
“Selena, let me explain—” she cut me off.
“No need. Your rejection to her confession is enough for me to believe everything, Kael. Thank you for accepting me,” she whispered.
Her eyes flickered and it made me feel guilty.
