Chapter 105 Chapter 105
Violet
Kelly had just gotten to the corner and was about to sit on the chair when there was a knock on the door. She scurried towards the door before her alpha could scold her again.
No, I didn’t want more people in this room!
I let my breathing even out and strained my ears to hear the voice of the newcomer.
Kelly opened the door and bowed.
“Lady Aurelia, alpha Alaric is busy at the moment.”
She said without stepping away from the front.
Great, exactly the woman I didn’t want here. She would find one more reason to blackmail me if she saw me hiding here.
Lady Aurelia replied, “I have to talk to the alpha. It is important.”
Kelly glanced in the direction of the desk miserably and then back at the wife of her alpha, torn between duty and respect for the alpha’s wife.
Alpha Alaric had clearly heard his wife arrive because I could hear her voice from this corner as well. The room echoed with voices and sounds so it was difficult for him to miss it.
Unless he was ignoring her intentionally.
When he didn’t raise his head or utter a word, Kelly tried again. “I am sorry, Lady Aurelia. Alpha Alaric doesn’t want to be disturbed for a few hours.”
However, that line had the exact opposite effect on LAdy Aurelia who stepped inside, ignoring Kelly like a buzzing fly and swatting at her like one.
“Please, Lady Aurelia, you can’t just…” Kelly began but Lady Aurelia turned on her heels and replied to her sternly.
“You are not going to tell me when I can meet my husband and when I can’t. And if you want to continue with this job, you will leave this room immediately.”
Kelly’s lips trembled and her eyes widened in fear. Again, she looked at Alpha alaric but the woman in front of her raised her voice.
“Leave, now!!”
Kelly nodded, apologized to her and ran towards the door.
“Shut the door! I have to talk to alpha Alaric in private. Ensure nobody steps in no matter how important.”
Kelly stuttered. “Yes, Lady Aurelia” and closed the door on her way outside.
And I looked behind me again, trying to find yet another good hiding spot. I was getting into more and more trouble.
Lady Aurelia seemed to be in a bad mood and I had nowhere to sneak out. The only exit was the door that was a few meters away from me, on the other side of the room and there was no way I could get to it without being seen.
Cursing myself for choosing this time to sneak into alpha Alaric’s office, I prayed to the moon Goddess to save me from a nishap.
Meanwhile, Lady Aurelia turned around and exhaled audibly before slowly approaching the huge table.
Alpha Alaric didn’t look up or indicate in any way that he had noticed her. I peered through the small gap between the cabinet and the pillar, and noticed the frown lines on the woman’s forehead.
“I was waiting for you last night”
LAdy Aurelia said after the silence turned unbearable to her.
Alpha Alaric merely flicked his eyes from one paper to another, choosing once again to ignore her.
When he didn’t answer, she asked again.
“Where were you?”
Alpha Alaric exhaled like she was a pesky intruder, and looked at her irritably.
“Where else would I be? Trying to figure out these damn symbols!”
His voice also sounded annoyed.
Lady Aurelia inched forward, smiling at him a little.
“Then let me…”
But he snapped at her. “I have told you a dozen times you will understand nothing.”
He face scrunched into despair.
“Atleast let me try”
Alpha Alaric was breathing huffing now and slid his chair backward. “You think you can do what I have been failing to? Fine, come here, read it and tell me what the hell is written on these papers that I have been breaking my head for days.”
His wife brushed away the hurt caused by his tone and came to stand beside him, peering at the papers.
Meanwhile, he kept looking at her.
“Tell me what they say!”
She looked at them and mumbled. “There’s not a single word here. Just symbols and odd drawings.”
Alpha Alaric got up from his seat and said sternly.
“Exactly what I have been trying to tell you. But you have to waste my time with your stupidity as always.”
Lady Aurelia’s eyes shone with unshed tears as she tried to explain. “I just wanted to help you.”
But her husband shot back.
“You want to help me? Then dont barge in my office like you own me. Go play with your jewellery and dresses. I gave you that wedding to plan right? Spend all the money you want but leave me the hell alone!”
He ran a hand through his hair as Lady Aurelia looked at him with an expression of hurt intermixed with hope.
“I just wanted to help. You haven’t slept in our bed for days. I rarely see you as it is.”
He yelled at her again.
‘Because I have to work, goddamnit. I have to earn to keep up with this facade and your…”
He stopped short as he looked at her hands that were shivering. She folded them and tried to hide them behind her back.
“I don't care about the wedding, Alaric. I care about you.” She said and tried to inch closer.
She raised her hand and placed a hand on his cheek, cupping his face delicately.
For a second, she only stared at him with yearning and love but he closed her eyes and then pulled her hand away from his face.
“I have to keep them all distracted until I figure this out. If they are all discussing the wedding and the ceremonies, less people will know about this. So, we have to ensure that the wedding is what everybody talks about for the next few months, you understand? Then I will give you whatever you want. Then your ailment will be gone.”
Lady Aurelia nodded and pulled her hand away that was shaking a little.
“Yes, I will keep them all distracted.”
“Good. Now, go and let me work.” He dismissed her and went back to sit on his chair.
Meanwhile, I felt cold sweat trickle down my back as I tried to figure out how to leave this room undetected.
