Goof
I’m at the clubhouse in the afternoon relaxing with my brothers. I was having a beer, playing pool and catching up. It has been a day and a half since I left Silvy’s house. I slept most of the time I was gone if I wasn’t working. Man, I needed it. I feel so much better and I’m not at risk of falling asleep at work. I was at the table talking with Rowdy waiting for my turn at the pool table when Lilly and Tank walked in. They made a beeline for me. Tank helped Lilly sit down before going to the bar to get them a drink. Once he had their drinks and was seated Lilly asked “ Goof, is Ant any better today?” “ What are you talking about?” I asked her. Did Silvy tell her that Ant has been crying for days? They are close friends. “ Oh, is it Silvy that is sick?” Tank asked.
“ Huh?” I questioned. I have no clue what they are talking about. They look at each other and then back to me. “ We saw Silvy with Ant at the emergency room yesterday so we thought one of them might be sick,” Lilly said. I looked at them to see if they were joking. They weren’t. “ What do you mean they were at the hospital yesterday? I don’t know anything about it.” I said. That got several people's attention. “ What do you mean you don’t know about your son being taken to the hospital? Weren’t you with them?” Ace growls out. He is right I should have been but no I wasn’t. I was here or at work depending on the time they went.
I opened my mouth but nothing came out. “ No he wasn’t there because he is an asshole that walked out on his sick child two days ago because shit got hard,” Tony said. We all snapped our heads toward the direction his voice came from. Tony was standing in the middle of the clubhouse. He kicked a suitcase and box to the middle of the floor then tossed a duffle bag on top of it. “ Tony, is Ant alright?” Lilly asked. Tony’s face softened at her “ He will be. Just an ear infection but because he didn’t show the normal symptoms Silvy didn’t pick up on it.” My son is sick and I wasn’t there. “ Tank, I want to go over and check on them. Silvy must be so tired.” Lilly said. “ Lilly, I would wait a little while. I just left and Gena is watching over them. Silvy and Ant are finally getting some sleep after three days. Unlike that asshole there that left after he couldn’t sleep through the night. And that was after he threw a tantrum and called my princess a bad mom and nurse because she could make Ant stop crying.” Tony said.
“ To make it even better he hasn’t once called or texted to check on him. Just came here and acted like they don’t exist.” Tony continued. I could tell he was pissed. He wants to kill me. I would. I hurt his daughter and grandson. My son. Everything he said is true. I snapped and acted like an asshole because I wasn’t getting enough sleep. I gave no thought to how Silvy might be feeling. SMACK! My cheek was on fire and the room was so silent you could hear a pin drop. Several people are looking wide-eyed at Lilly who has her hand back. Lilly hit me? Before I can ask she gets me again. Lilly has never hit anyone in her life. I’m so shocked I can’t move. Lilly hit me. “ You bastard. You say you want Silvy to be your Ol’e lady, your wife and this is how you act when you have a few sleepless nights.” Lilly yelled.
“ Lilly, I did wrong yes. I was just so tired. I came here to get some sleep so I wouldn’t fall asleep at work. I’m sure my brothers have done the same.” I said thinking one of them would confirm they had. All the brothers that are here didn’t say a word to help me. They made it worse. “ Tank by my side when Bastian and Lita were teething. Every time the kids had the flu, or an earache Tank was there.” Lilly said. So one person. No biggy. Wrong. “ Lug Nut and I sat with Ailee and we took turns taking care of Ian and Katrina when they had a week-long flu,” Ace said.
“ Rowdy and I are always there to help Merigold anytime any of the kids are unwell,” Axel said. “ I would never walk out on my girls like you did. If you think you are tired Silvy is ten times as tired as you.” Brick said. “ So what if you fell asleep at work because you were up all night with Ant? We would have understood. We have all done it. We would have covered for you.” Tank says. Viper starts laughing “ I have fallen asleep at my desk with papers stuck to my face when the twins had colic.” I felt like an asshole. Fuck what did I do? “ You are right I messed up. I was being selfish and I snapped at Silvy just because I was tired. I didn’t consider her feelings. I will go over there right now and talk to her.” I said and stood up.
“ Don’t bother. When Gena and I went over to help my exhausted daughter, Silvy told me everything. While she was finally sleeping I packed your shit and changed the locks. Stay the hell away from my daughter and grandson. You are no longer welcome in her house.” Tony stated. “ What? No, I need to fix this. I can’t lose my son and Silvy.” I argued. “ You should have thought about that before walking out on your family at the first sign of hardship. Proving one of Silvy’s fears true.” Tony yelled then walked out. Damn, Silvy was afraid I would do something to screw our relationship up.
I get smacked again pulling me out of my thoughts. I turn to Lilly again. I get I hurt her friend but damn that hurts. “ Are you going to just sit there and give up? Or are you going to get up of your ass go over to Silvy and beg her to forgive you. Grovel, stay all night on the porch if you have to. Do not leave. Sow how sorry you are for being a complete moron. Then grovel some more. And when Silvy forgives you, claim her so she will never doubt you again.” Lilly yelled. Lilly is right on the money. I can’t sit around here moping that I fucked up. I have to get my family back before it is too late.
I jump up and run to the door when Lilly yells my name. I stop and turn. Giving her my full attention. She has an evil smirk on her face. This isn’t going to be good. “ I want you to remember something Goof. Silvy doesn’t need you anymore. You did your job according to the deal you made. She chose to be with you. If you aren’t the man for the job stay away. There is a list as long as my arm of real men that would happily take your place. You need her, not the other way around.” Fuck, I need to go.
Silvy
I woke up to the sound of loud whispering. I had fallen asleep on the couch after Gena had taken a sleeping Ant from me. The medicine Dr. Farris gave him along with the pain medicine is working wonders for Ant and he finally fell asleep while I was rocking him. When Gena and my Dad came over I was still rocking him too scared to put him down for fear of him waking up. I was fighting my sleep my eyes kept trying to shut when Gena took Ant with the promise to watch him. I reluctantly gave Ant over to Gena under the condition that I would only rest for thirty minutes. Gena gave me a sarcastic sure and I laid down on the couch. I wasn’t down all the way before my eyes closed. That is the last thing I remember.
I keep my eyes closed but listen to the talking to try and figure out if it is worth waking up for or if I am even needed. I don’t hear Ant so I am going to assume he is still sleeping. I hear Gena “ You aren’t supposed to be here. I thought Tony told you to never come back.” “ Look I know I fucked up but I just need to talk to Silvy,” Goof said. Great what is he doing here? “ The only reason I let you in is so you would stop banging on the door. I don’t need you waking Ant and Silvy. But there is no way in hell am I going to let you talk to her. You left and hurt her.” Gena said.
“ I’m sorry about banging on the door. You wouldn’t open it. I know I left. It was a horrible move that I regret. I need to apologize and make up for it. I need my family.” Goof said. He sounds sincere. Almost like he is pleading. “ I don’t know Goof. You hurt Silvy with your words and actions. Tony wanted to kill you for hurting Silvy. Silvy and I managed to talk him down. But you being back here is a bad idea.” Gena said. “ I will deal with Tony. But first I need to talk to Silvy. I am prepared to beg. And I need to see my son.” Goof said.
“ I’m telling you Goof it is a bad idea,” Gena told him. “ Gena, please. I need my family back.” Goof pleaded. I have had enough. I’m not going to be able to go back to sleep and I didn’t want him to wake up Ant. I open my eyes and sit up. I grab my phone and look at the time. Damn, I slept for two hours and Ant is still asleep. Not bad. I feel lucky. I look up and see Gena and Goof arguing by the front door. “ Gena, just let him in. I’ll talk to him.” I said.
