Chapter 232: Emily, Is Something Wrong?
"Mr. Smith, something happened to Ms. Johnson!"
Law enforcement officers showed up at the villa.
For people at the villa to find out about this was incredibly easy.
Especially for someone with Daniel's status.
York got the news and immediately reported it.
When Daniel heard this, he stood up right away. Because he got up so suddenly, a wave of dizziness hit him, but fortunately he managed to grab the chair in time.
"Mr. Smith!"
York was also startled and quickly stepped forward to support him, feeling somewhat regretful.
Because he knew Emily's place in Daniel's heart, he wanted to notify Daniel immediately, but overlooked his physical condition.
He seemed like an irresponsible subordinate.
Daniel steadied himself, then slowly sat back down. His complexion had already returned to normal.
York was a bit confused. "Mr. Smith, you wait here, I'll go help Ms. Johnson right away!"
"Stop!"
But Daniel stopped York, preventing his next move.
"No rush, let's wait and see first!"
He believed the law enforcement officers wouldn't come knocking without reason - someone must have done something.
Right now, Emily had just been approached, and the situation wasn't clear yet. He needed to understand the specifics before considering how to save her.
Daniel was very worried about Emily.
But the more worried he was, the more he needed to stay rational.
It was good that Daniel didn't act impulsively.
Because these people were investigating Hayden.
Hayden was right there in Daniel's villa, which could easily lead law enforcement to make connections.
Emily let the law enforcement officers in, and they began investigating inside and out.
They didn't find any trace of Hayden.
However, since someone had reported Emily, even if they didn't find anyone, they still needed to take her back for a simple questioning.
"Sorry, Ms. Johnson, but we'll have to trouble you to come with us for a simple questioning!"
The law enforcement officers even provided their reasoning - because of Emily's attempt to save Hayden, the Johnson family had made news at the time, so with a little investigation, they could find out the whole story.
So, the Johnson family claimed to suspect that Hayden wasn't actually tricked into going to Zephyria, but was secretly held captive by Emily, who then took the opportunity to demand shares in the Johnson Group.
Emily wasn't afraid of any investigation, so she went with them to the police station.
This news immediately spread through the villa to their social circle.
[You know Emily, that daughter the Johnson family kicked out? I heard she was taken away by law enforcement. Wonder what she did?]
[Definitely nothing good. The Johnson family had good judgment. I heard she was lost outside for years before being found, so she must have gone bad back then. Isn't Bianca, the Johnson family's other daughter, pretty outstanding?]
[Hard to say if she's outstanding. Just the other day, there was bad news about her too. And that Chase guy - used to be called a star, then got caught up in plagiarism and had to quit the industry.]
Seeing the discussion starting to go off track, someone immediately jumped in.
[That's all just rumors, but this one has photos. She was personally taken away by law enforcement - isn't that proof enough?]
With photos that didn't look photoshopped, many people shifted the topic back to Emily.
Emily's past troubles were dug up again. Whether people in the circle knew her or not, they all now thought she was a thoroughly bad girl.
Everyone in the circle was connected, and as a wealthy person, Byron was naturally in these gossip groups and saw everything.
He was furious.
He immediately started arguing with these people.
Byron: [How good can you be? Seducing your own stepmother, throwing away all ethics, and you dare mention Emily? Emily is excellent - you're not even worthy of carrying her shoes.]
Byron: [Your mouth is so foul, must be hereditary. But I heard your family has body odor - how come with you it's mouth odor? Aren't you afraid of going bankrupt from doing too many shameful things?]
......
Byron was usually pretty sharp-tongued, and now in his fury, his insults were even more devastating.
So many people either left the group or played dead.
Of course, there were a few bold ones who dared to talk back.
[Byron, I've been annoyed with you for a while! You think you're some good guy? And don't bully people just because of your family background - we all rely on our own abilities. You're defending a castoff from a bottom-tier family like this - what, you got your eye on that woman? Though looking at Emily's figure and looks, she'd be fun to play with. But don't get too into it. When you're tired of her, let us have a taste!]
This group was the kind where spoiled rich kids ate, drank, and partied. So everyone was pretty wild, speaking without any restraint.
Byron was furious.
He was about to explode.
But unexpectedly, Sophia somehow appeared in the group too.
[Seeing a woman and only thinking about that stuff - did you forget your mom is also a woman? Or when she gave birth to you, did your head and butt get switched? Disgusting!]
Byron saw Sophia cursing and was surprised she could insult people so skillfully.
He couldn't help giving Sophia a thumbs up.
That person didn't know Sophia and couldn't help asking: [Who are you? Who invited you in? Never seen you before.]
This person wasn't completely stupid. Not knowing Sophia's background, he kept his insults measured - in case Sophia had a significant identity, he wouldn't offend her too badly.
Byron, being sharp, naturally saw why the guy suddenly became more polite.
Byron: [Loser!]
He sneered and said nothing more.
Everyone understood why he insulted him like that.
Byron then privately messaged Sophia.
Byron: [Why did you join the group chat? Do you know what's going on with Emily?]
Sophia couldn't help rolling her eyes: [What else? A neighbor in the group knows I really like Emily, so they sent me screenshots. I was so angry I'd die if I didn't vent. Since you're here too and I'm not afraid of being ganged up on, I figured I'd come in and curse to my heart's content. About Emily - I was going to ask you. Guess you don't know either!]
She didn't even know Emily had gone abroad. Turns out the Johnson family pressured Emily like that.
Even someone as strong as Emily couldn't escape the constraints of her birth family.
Her heart ached for Emily!
Byron didn't expect this. After thinking, he suggested: [Emily's in trouble, we naturally need to find out what happened and help. Let's go to law enforcement first and ask around. Best if we can see Emily.]
Sophia had the same idea and immediately said: [Then what are we waiting for? Let's go now!]
But since it was dark, the two decided to go to law enforcement together tomorrow to check on Emily.
Right now, Emily was at law enforcement being questioned in a routine manner, not suffering any harm.
But the person behind this wanted to admire their handiwork and couldn't wait to see Emily's miserable state first.
