Chapter 59

Chapter 59

They say people in love are never generous.

Evelyn used to scoff at this idea, but now she finally understood.

Looking at that message, she felt tears flooding even harder.

Freya could send messages herself, so what emergency required Benjamin to personally take her to the hospital?

And Benjamin let Freya use his phone—was this some kind of subtle showing off?

Even knowing Freya was deliberately putting on a show for her, Evelyn still felt suffocated.

Without Benjamin's cooperation, how could Freya have gotten his phone?

Evelyn's finger hovered over the screen, about to reply, when those two messages were suddenly deleted.

What did that mean?

Her mind went blank for a moment, and she instinctively opened Benjamin's social media page.

The latest post didn't show anyone's face, but you could clearly see Benjamin holding Freya's hand.

The caption read—

[Thank goodness you're okay.]

Simple words, yet full of unspoken feelings.

What would happen if Freya wasn't okay?

At the hospital.

"The dosage wasn't large. As long as she doesn't touch drugs again, she'll be fine."

"This stuff absolutely cannot be touched, or your whole life will be ruined."

After a few stern warnings, the doctor turned and left.

Benjamin leaned against the wall, smoking, his handsome face completely hidden in darkness, his expression unclear.

But the dark aura radiating from him was something everyone could clearly feel.

No one dared approach him.

Until Samuel walked over and kicked him lightly.

"Scared? Isn't she fine? Don't worry."

Samuel still had his casual manner, as if things that terrified the whole world were nothing in his eyes.

But a closer look revealed heavy coldness in Samuel's eyes, forming a sharp contrast with the amusement in his voice.

"If the Martinez family is involved with drugs, then they have no reason to exist."

Benjamin's voice sounded hoarse, as if saturated with smoke.

"What, the future gang heir is going to fight against this stuff too?"

"You handle it." Benjamin didn't engage, stubbed out his cigarette, and walked toward the hospital room.

Samuel narrowed his eyes and asked playfully at his back:

"I heard Jeremy said before that he wants Evelyn as his woman?"

Benjamin's steps paused briefly, then continued forward.

But his parting words were full of hostility: "If you don't handle this in a month, get back to Silverlight City."

In the hospital room.

Hearing the sound, Freya immediately looked up, her eyes bright: "Benjamin..."

The next second, her expression dimmed as she slowly lowered her head.

"You're okay now."

He walked to the bed with long strides, his gaze falling on the phone in her hand—Tetris.

Noticing his look, she handed the phone back, carefully.

"Thank you, Benjamin, for knowing that playing these little games helps calm me down when I'm anxious."

He responded flatly and took back his phone, glancing at it with a slight frown.

"Did I interfere with you contacting Ms. Thomas?"

"No." Benjamin's voice was even, emotionless. "Stay in the hospital this week. Don't go anywhere."

"I can't, I have school."

"I'll take care of it."

Benjamin's commanding tone left no room for negotiation.

Freya's hands under the blanket clenched tighter, but her face remained fragile.

"Benjamin, after what happened today, I'm really scared... Can you stay at the hospital with me tonight?"

"Okay."

"Really?" Her eyes lit up, a big smile on her face. "Should you call Ms. Thomas and let her know?"

"Rest first. You don't need to worry about other things."

Benjamin's somewhat cold voice gave her no chance to continue the conversation.

Benjamin sat on the nearby sofa and made several calls.

Soon after, a nurse came in and gave Freya an injection.

Samuel saw Benjamin emerge from the room and clicked his tongue.

"You're really heartless. She risked her life just wanting you to spend more time with her, and you have them give her a sedative."

"Are you bored?" Benjamin saw he was still there, his expression showing impatience.

He shrugged: "Yes, otherwise why would I come to Emerald City?"

"Then you watch over Freya."

With that, Benjamin headed toward the elevator.

But from the corner of his eye, he caught sight of a slender figure.

He glanced in that direction, then strode into the elevator without any further pause.

The villa had fallen into sleep, only the dim wall lights casting Benjamin's shadow.

He entered the master bedroom and saw the rise and fall of the blanket on the bed. His tense emotions finally relaxed.

He walked over quickly and, almost uncontrollably, hugged her along with the blanket.

"Why didn't you go to the hospital?"

His hoarse voice carried a hint of... grievance?

Waking from sleep, Evelyn was still unclear about the situation. She instinctively asked:

"Why would I go to the hospital?"

She felt Benjamin stiffen, and her own mind gradually cleared.

Just as she was about to explain, his kiss came down.

Not tender romance, not passionate desire, but something like... punishment?

Feeling her lip being bitten, Evelyn finally reacted.

"Not even focused at a time like this—what are you thinking about?"

Benjamin's hoarse voice carried obvious displeasure.

As Evelyn's consciousness returned, she blurted out: "Why did you come back?"

"If I don't come back, where should I go?" His arms tightened around her, his tone almost grinding his teeth.

Didn't he believe she had harmed Freya?

Was she still dreaming?

Uncertain about the situation, she spoke again, more tentatively.

"Freya..."

"Don't let her come to Belle & Chic anymore."

As expected.

He didn't believe her. Evelyn's heart sank halfway, yet she couldn't argue.

She had too many strikes against her in his mind, and Sophia and Freya's scheme was too vicious.

Without evidence, nothing she said would matter.

"I'll have finance settle her wages."

"No need."

Her heart sank further. Was he rejecting even her money?

Evelyn suddenly felt that staying here tonight instead of returning to the Thomas Villa was just humiliating herself.

"I thought you'd go straight back to the Thomas Villa." He buried his face in her neck, his stubble brushing her delicate skin.

At least she didn't leave.

Breathing in her unique scent, Benjamin's anxious heart finally settled.

Trapped in his embrace, various emotions surfaced, but she couldn't grasp what he was really thinking.

After turning over all the reasons in her mind, she finally asked directly:

"Just now you were on Facebook celebrating that Freya was okay, and now you're saying this—are you complaining that I lack self-awareness?"

"I don't need you to drive me away. I can leave right now."

Thinking of the photo of him and Freya holding hands, Evelyn's emotions became unstable.
