Chapter 46 Chapter 46
\- KEEGAN -
I passed beside the full body mirror and caught myself smiling harder than I had ever smiled in a long time. It was all because of the omega and because I had the most relaxing day today. I felt comfortable around her, I could laugh freely, and I even told her major aspects of my life that I preferred to keep private.
Everything about her seemed to mesmerize me; her laughter was amazing, her skin was so smooth, like something that could be called perfection. For some reason, she was looking extremely beautiful lately. Her blue eyes felt like daggers going into my ribs, her smile was like a stream of calmness, her hair looked amazing, her body was perfect and looking healthy.
"This is such a strange feeling.' I admitted to Drex.
'It doesn't feel strange to me, it just feels new. The attraction and attention to the omega feels like our lives depend on it. If I had known the feeling of the mate bond was this great, we'd have had our mate a million years ago.' He replied, bliss dancing in his voice as well.
I fastened the last button of my suit coat and remembering how the omega looked even more beautiful and sexy in that dark red velvet dress made me eager to see her again.
'It's so annoying that other men have to see our mate looking that good. Can't she just be ours alone?' He groaned.
'She's not an object.' I reminded him of that and grabbed my phone from the dresser.
There was a slight knock on the door accompanied by Scarlett's voice, "hey Keegan, can I come in?"
"Sure, you can." I swept off every trace of a smile on my face and tucked my hands into my pants' pocket.
The door knob twisted and she peeked in before walking in and shut the door with a nervous smile on. "Hi, I'm just here to remind you of your purpose of being here. You know you're supposed to act like my boyfriend. Mom has told everyone already and people are expecting us to be together, so please try not to let her down or draw suspicion to people, okay?"
I maintained eye contact with her like it was a staring contest. She was smiling, patently awaiting a response from me, but what did I have to say about it? How could I let her know that I only accepted her ridiculously awkward request because the omega found a way to get into my head just by flickering her long eyelashes and with a bold approach? She was going to think I was crazy if she figured that out.
"I'll see you downstairs." She twittered and took her leave from the room.
'What does she need to achieve from this? It's so pointless and sounds like a tiresome task.' Drex commented and I let out a chuckle before heading downstairs.
So many people filled the living room but I didn't have to extend my eyesight capability before spotting the omega. It felt like she was the only one in the room or like an object glowing in the darkness; she was in the dining area with three ladies surrounding her while many other people surrounded them.
"Keegan," Pam called and I turned to her without drawing suspicions that I was staring at the omega. I'd like to introduce you to my friends, with Scarlett. Where's she?" she asked, just in time for Scarlett to walk down the stairs in a gray gown that matched my gray suit combination. She wasn't wearing that earlier. Did she seriously change her clothes just to match mine? What was wrong with this young woman?
She approached us in slow frustrating strides that made me feel like walking over to her and dragging her down to walk faster.
"You look so good, baby." Pam said as Scarlett finally stopped in front of us, a proud smile was stamped on both their faces.
"The outfits make you look like a perfect couple." George commented, walking up from behind me with two male I assumed were his friends tagging along his sides.
"This is your daughter's boyfriend you've been talking about? He's such a handsome young man." One of the men commented.
"Thank you." I tried to smile, but that wasn't happening.
"He's the best wedding anniversary gift my daughter could ever give to us. He's such an amazing young man." Pam was grinning from ear to ear.
My attention was cut off from them when my eyes traveled to the omega on their own accord. She just said something and made the people around her laugh. A man was passing a glass of beer to her when one of the familiar looking ladies held his hand back with a frown and said something like, "she's drunk and clearly has a low alcohol tolerance. Do you want her puking around?" the redhead lady frowned at him.
"Well sorry," the dude apologized.
"I can't believe her alcoholic tolerance is so low." The other familiar dark skinned lady said with a puzzled look crossed on her face.
"Keegan," Scarlett snapped my attention back to them, holding my bicep with a confused smile. "Mom just said she wants to introduce you to her friends." So they were talking?
I nodded, glancing at the omega one more time. How could she be drunk again? Didn't she realize how terrible her alcoholic life is. I hope she didn't mess things up by revealing anything, because humans were here too, and most importantly, I hoped she could remain safe in her drunken state.
'Now this is an additional excuse to keep watching her. 'Drex said with a smirk playing on his lips.
I followed behind Pam as she headed in the direction of a few women sitting on the sofas with gift boxes in their hands.
"Happy Anniversary!" they said in unison and stretched out their gift boxes to Pam who kept them with the help of a random lady who took the gift boxes away.
"Thank you so much." Pam said, grinning from ear to ear. "I really appreciate this."
"Is this the man you've been talking about? Damn, he's so fine!" one if the women said, nodding her head in approval. "Your baby's got one big piece of sugar candy here."
"Don't they look so good together?" Another commented.
"Definitely." Two other women replied.
I glanced at Scarlett and she was literally blushing.
What was wrong with these people? Was Scarlett taking this seriously? Why the heck did she even want me to act like her boyfriend? What was the purpose of the pretense?
"You can have your seats while I grab lunch for both of you." Pam excused herself while Scarlett and I had our seats on the couch side by side.
My eyes caught with the omega again. She was laughing boisterously at something someone might have just said and I could swear it was the most beautiful way I had ever seen someone laugh. I tried to strain my listening attention to her laughter and the sound of it felt like melody to my ears.
I wanted to listen to their conversation when one of the women tapped me. "Why are you smiling so much? You looked like one of these grumpy men so I didn't expect you to smile at all." She had a smirk on.
I was confused at first till I realized that the omega had made me smile. "Uh... Yes." My smile left my lips before they started to do something as terrible as thinking I was nice.
"So when did both of you meet?" The dark skinned woman asked.
"We've been friends since I was born. We just really cared about each other till it became true love." She grinned, holding my bicep again with a smile at me.
This made no sense at all, yet I just had to nod.
'Do we seriously need to put up with this?' Drex groaned, obviously not enjoying the company we were among now.
'I wish we didn't have to, but I can't just break it. It was sort of a promise, like a deal. As long as the omega is here based on my condition, we have to put up with this nonsense ' I sighed.
Pam returned with a tray of beverages and served them on the center table. I muttered a thank you and took a glass of beer from the tray.
"Do you have plans for marriage yet? We can't wait to attend your wedding." One of them questioned and made me choke on my drink. I coughed as I quickly reached for a glass of water.
When I took a gulp of water and could speak normally again, I shook my head at the woman, "Let's be calm. What's with the hurry?" Boredom got the better of me again and made my attention drift towards the omega. This time, I made sure to pay close attention to their words, hoping to hear the omega's sweet voice again and also concerned that she could be spilling a pack secret.
"...I don't know about men; I've been single my whole life." She shrugged.
"Oou, no way!" The men slash boys and a few ladies made disapproval noises.
"How can you be single? You're way too beautiful and sexy to not have had a man in your life." One of them leaned way too close to her that I had to strain my eyes to listen to him whisper into her ear, "I can be your man if you want to."
His words made a spark occur in my head.
'Is he fucking stupid?' Drex growled. "Really? Wouldn't that be great?" she chuckled.
"Of course it'd be great." He held her hand, running his finger along her face.
It felt like my brain exploded out of my head. 'How dare he touch her?' I yelled to Drex, clenching my fists.
'I'd kill him right now.'
I was about to rise to my feet, ready to storm to him and hit him in the face multiple times, but Pam held me back.
"Where are you going, Keegan? There's still so much to talk about." She sounded a bit pissed off but was masking it with a smile.
I glanced at the idiotic moron who still had his hand on my omega like he had any right to.
"Jeez Max, stop it." The dark skinned girl slapped his hand away with a frown.
"You'll make her uncomfortable. Must you flirt with everything that wears a skirt?" The blonde lady beside her also frowned.
"What? She's hot." He shrugged, not showing any sign that he wasn't going to touch her again. 'I swear if he lays a finger on our mate again, we'd fucking rip his head off his body.' Drex said, boiling in so much fury.
"Will you be here for the next holiday?" one of the women asked us again. What was their problem with irrelevant questions? "Yes, Keegan and I will definitely -" "I'll think about it." I cut her off, the fact that she was trying to make another decision for me made me fume even more.
I couldn't control my attention drifting to the omega again.
"So Jane, it's your turn. Truth or dare?" a random dude asked her. Who the hell still played truth or dare and why were they making her do this with them? "I don't really care. I just want to have fun and do something crazy tonight." She ended it with a shout. "Great! Then kiss any guy you find attractive. If it's great, then there can be an advanced stage. You don't want those beautiful lips to remain virgin lips till you're 50." The so-called Max said.
"If she's kissing anyone, it's definitely not you." The redhead replied with a role of her eyes. "I'm hot, who wouldn't want me? Do you know how many girls want to kill themselves just to have a chance with him?" His pride increased my exasperation.
"She won't kiss you if she doesn't want to, right Jane?" a random dude asked and she nodded, chuckling again.
Another guy whispered something into her ear, I forgot to pay attention to his words.
This made no sense. They couldn't let her just do something stupid because she was drunk. She couldn't just kiss any idiotic person. "I'll be right back." I excused myself and was advancing towards them.
The omega glanced at me and then nodded at the guy. "Yeah, he's been staring at me, and he's such a gorgeous piece of candy." She said as she rose to her feet and started walking in my direction as well. "What's going on?' Drex wondered as well.
'I don't care. I just need to get her out of their company.'
Her steps were surprisingly faster than mine and she stopped in front of me and grabbed my collar. Before I could do anything to stop her, she smacked her lips against mine, kissing me really hard.
