Chapter 290 Being Kept By Some Old Dude
Chapter 290 Being Kept By Some Old Dude
Vera's POV
Ruby couldn't hold it in and laughed behind her hand, mocking me.
"Vera, Violet Taylor's a genius writer and screenwriter. Someone once plagiarized her script and won first place at the International Screenwriting Awards, but her original work was way more brilliant and intricate! Just because Violet never showed her face in the news doesn't mean you can steal her identity!"
After saying that, Ruby turned to Rose. "Rose, you tell us—is she really Violet Taylor?"
Rose said, "Violet Taylor is my idol, but I've never met her in person. I don't know what she looks like."
Ruby looked at me with contempt. "You hear that, Vera? You claim you're Violet, but literally no one recognizes you. Are you seriously trying to bullshit your way through this?"
I was genuinely surprised by her bizarre logic.
I smiled. "Ruby, so what if I'm not Violet Taylor? Lumina's Emmy Awards submission was a success—that's a fact. Lumina's scripts ranked first among all the production companies—that's also a fact. Shouldn't that be something to celebrate and congratulate? Why do you keep coming after me?"
Nathan tried to smooth things over. "Ms. Green, you've done excellent work. I hope next year Lumina will achieve even more under your leadership. Now, let's move on to the next agenda item..."
"No!" Ruby shouted. "We haven't figured out if she's really Violet Taylor yet! If she's lying, then someone like that has no business being CEO of Lumina!"
"Ruby!" Nathan frowned and snapped at her. "Stop it!"
"I can verify her identity!" A strong, authoritative voice rang out from the doorway.
Everyone turned to look. A man in his fifties wearing a business suit appeared at the conference room entrance.
Someone with sharp eyes recognized him. "That's Elliot Lane!"
Rose's eyes went wide with shock.
I stepped down from the podium and walked over to Elliot, smiling. "Mr. Lane, what brings you here?"
Elliot looked at me with a warm smile. "Someone called me and said you were being questioned here. Of course I had to come support you."
Someone? Atlas?
After speaking, Elliot turned toward Ruby, his expression visibly darkening. "I'm the president of the National Screenwriters Association. I can confirm that Ms. Vera Green is Violet Taylor!"
"Lumina's Emmy Awards submissions were processed through me, but I only revealed the company name after the judging results came out. The entire process followed proper procedures and regulations—there was no insider dealing whatsoever."
"Do you have any other questions?"
Ruby stumbled backward in shock.
Nathan quickly stood up and moved to shield her. He smiled. "Mr. Lane, my sister was just curious. She didn't mean any harm. Please don't take it personally."
Elliot let out a cold laugh. "Mr. Grant, we both know what her intentions were. There's a limit to how much you should protect her."
Nathan's expression stiffened slightly. "Mr. Lane, this is our company meeting. I won't keep you any longer. Take care."
Elliot turned to me, his attitude doing a complete 180, smiling warmly. "Ms. Green, I'll head out now. Remember to call me if you need anything. Whatever it is, I'll move heaven and earth to make it happen for you!"
I smiled. "Thank you so much for coming, Mr. Lane."
After Elliot left, the conference room erupted in noisy discussion.
"Holy shit, that's insane! With Mr. Lane saying that, Lumina's basically going to own the entertainment industry."
"Is this Mr. Lane really that big a deal?"
"Are you kidding? Mr. Lane is president of the National Screenwriters Association, the biggest production company. Basically all the best resources in Hollywood are in his hands. Even the scraps from his table would be enough to keep a whole studio running!"
"Damn, did you see how he was basically simping for Ms. Green? That's true love right there!"
"Violet Taylor is a genius writer and screenwriter. Go ask anyone in the industry—they'd all die for her!"
Suddenly, the room filled with gasps of "Whoa" and "What the hell?"
Photos suddenly appeared on the big screen. The pictures showed me with an elderly man. The man's face was pixelated, but mine wasn't. We looked intimate in the photos—me getting into the man's luxury car, hugging him closely.
Anyone seeing these photos couldn't help but let their imagination run wild.
"Is... is this what I think it means? Is Ms. Green being kept by some old dude?"
"No way, Ms. Green is so gorgeous, why would she go for an old guy like that?"
"Maybe because she's so pretty, that's exactly why she hooked up with an old man. Otherwise how else would someone so young become CEO?"
"Wait, doesn't that old guy's silhouette look kind of familiar?"
Ruby pointed at the photos scrolling on the big screen and demanded answers from me.
"What's this all about? Is this how you got your performance numbers at Lumina?"
I looked at those photos, my expression turning cold. I looked coldly at Ruby. "Did you put these photos up? This is a company meeting. Aren't you worried about what happens if this gets out? What it'll do to Grant Group's reputation?"
Ruby's eyes flickered with panic.
Nathan coldly ordered his assistant standing nearby: "Go shut off that screen right now!"
Ruby quickly regained her composure. She said: "I have no idea where those photos came from! But you're the one doing shameless things that'll destroy Grant Group's reputation!"
