Chapter 138 Nightmare
Chapter 138 Nightmare
Uriel's POV
"Can you stop pacing and at least tell me what's going on?"
I couldn't stop.
My head was juggled.
Anytime I shut my eyes to sleep, it was Mirabel's face I saw.
"Who the fuck even answers Mirabel?" Scoffing, I folded my arms. I shot a deadly glare at Shelly, as if she was Mirabel.
"Why are you looking at me in a murderous manner?" Kathie frowned slightly, confusion etched on her face.
"Have you seen the girl in the basketball team?" I asked, taking a seat on my bed.
"Yeah. She's hot. Does she play?" Shelly smiled innocently.
"I don't fucking care if she does," I snapped, my hand balling into a fist. "I just need her staying six feets away from Ryder,"
"Her body is pretty fit for a - wait, what? She's assigned to Ryder?" Shelly's eyes bulged out, her face pale.
"Now you get me. Imagine that kind of person is being assigned to Landon, to be his fucking assistant!" My voice raised up, then reduced again as I whispered, "I was once Ryder's assistant in our high school. Now, look at us,"
Kathie walked up from Bia's bed where she had been sitting, to mine, placing a hand on my shoulder.
"Okay, calm down. Calm down okay?" She demonstrated with her hand. "Have you tried talking to Ryder?"
A wicked laugh escaped my lips. "So he can call me insecure?"
"He wouldn't call you that, Uriel, you know that."
"Coach said it's for his own good and that if I liked him as I claimed, I would do this for him," I frowned.
"They would've just appointed a boy then?"
"Same thing I said!" Yelling, I threw my hands up in the air. "But coach said boys wouldn't like to take help from their fellow guys."
"How about an elderly man?" Kathie included.
Groaning, I threw my back to the bed. "You should've seen the way she was looking at him, Shelly. Like she couldn't wait to devour him,"
"You should really talk to him about it," Shelly stood up, a shuffling sound echoing. "Here. Call him,"
"It's late. What if he's sleeping?" Pushing myself up, I asked.
"It's just 8 PM. He's probably just getting ready to sleep or see a game online," Kathie pointed at the phone and then to my ear, signaling me to call him.
I took a long swig of air into my lungs, exhaling slowly. Then I dialed his number, my feet tapping the ground as I listened to it ring.
"Call again," Kathie pushed after the first call returned unanswered.
I dialed it again, biting my nails. This time he picked.
"Come on! It wasn't so bad this time, Mira,"
My eyes widened, my face turning to face Shelly. She mouthed for me to put it on loud speaker.
"Excuse me. I need to take my babe's call." Ryder chuckled lightly. "Hey babe!"
My mouth suddenly went dry, my hand balling into a fist.
"Babe?"
"Say something," Shelly pushed my shoulder.
"Its 8 PM, Ryder," I managed to croak out.
"Yeah, I knowww. I'm sorry I'm still out this late but Mira thought said she'd let me off the hook tomorrow if I practiced well today. Maybe we could spend some quality time together tomorrow?"
"Oh. Okay,"
"Babe -"
"Connie! Come over here let's see this clip together," Mirabel's annoying small voice echoed through the phone speaker, making my blood boil.
I hung up without waiting for him to.
"Girl, what the fuck?!" Shelly spoke, helping me voice out my internal thought.
"You can't keep mute, Uriel."
"Leave me alone. I just need to sleep away this nightmare," groaning, I said.
"Now I'm so pissed. Maybe I should go down to that basketball court and talk to him myself!"
Knowing Shelly, I jumped up. "You can't do that."
"Someone needs to put Tinkerbell in her spot,"
"It's Mirabel," I corrected.
"It's deliberate," Shelly snapped. I nodded frantically.
"I'll talk to him tomorrow okay? I promise,"
She was about to say something to me when her phone rang. Her face brightened immediately, the anger gone so quick.
I knew who it was from that expression alone.
"Uh... I'll just tell him I won't be available,"
"No! No, you're not doing that," I warned her, holding her fingers from typing. "If you have anything planned with Landon, please just go. Don't make me feel like a crappy friend,"
"Are you sure," Shelly pouted. "You need me,"
"I need Nick in the movie 'Your Fault London'. Just seeing him alone would fix me up," I joked.
"He's not even that -"
"Don't test me, Shelly." I dared her, shooting her a glare. She raised her hands up, making me smile. "You made a good decision, sis."
"Okay, bye. Call me if you need me. I'm serious, Uri." Shelly said, her face serious.
"Okay mummy. Can you go now?" I pushed her out of my door, shutting it after waving her a goodbye.
When I turned back to my room, the emptiness slapped across my face. My eyes fell to my sketchbook.
Maybe I should just draw out my emotion.
Smiling, I picked it up with my pen. It started out good until it didn't and I started scribbling like a mad woman - zig zag - on the poor paper. Groaning, I ripped out that page, shredding it into three pieces, balling it up and tossing it on the ground.
My eyes darted to my small clock that sat on my nightstand. 8:40 PM.
Would he still be with her?
Should I call?
What if he takes her home because it's too late for her to go home?
"Stop it, Uriel," I held my head, reprimanding myself. "He wouldn't do such."
I folded my hair up into a messy bun, picking up my laptop so I could stream my movie on my Prime Video Subscription.
I had a knack for forbidden relationship. So I was rewatching Season 1 again.
My phone rang halfway into the movie. When I checked the time, it was 9:30 PM. I found my phone, placing it on my ear.
"Hey babe," I spoke up first, a little emotional now that I was watching a romantic movie.
The call was quiet for a while. I almost thought it was bad network until I heard the voice.
By 9:30?
"Shit, I think I just called your girlfriend,"
"Mirabel?" My voice was so small, I doubted anyone heard me.
"Fuck, end it," Ryder yelled.
Then the line went dead.
My eyes blinked thrice, my mouth falling open.
What the fuck?
