Chapter 11 ..with Uriel
Uriel's POV
I was going to be in a lot of trouble and I knew it.
But I had to do this.
I wanted to.
Eyeing Dennis as he walked out of the detention class, I held the strap of my bag tight.
He scowled at me.
What? Was it my fault?
I turned back to the door, waiting for him. My heart beating fast.
Finally, the door opened again revealing him. If Dennis threw a scowl at me, Ryder threw a hurricane at me.
It was that bad.
He looked like he could kill me.
"What are you doing here?" He eyed me, slamming the door behind him.
"I... I'm waiting for you." I smiled small.
He scoffed, eyeing me as if I had grown 2 heads. "You? Why?"
"It's my -"
"Just go home, Uriel. Or read. Just do whatever you do with yourself." He glanced at me one last time, a bit of irritation evident in his face and then he walked away.
"Hey, wait!" I ran after him, falling into steps with him.
"Go away." He groaned.
"I didn't wait for you after an hour, to go home." I told him. He halted, his shoulder tensed. He turned around, his eyes scanning the school.
He smirked, taking a step towards me. "Is that because you want something, Uriel?" His eyes locked onto mine, his smirk growing darker, deeper.
I raised my eyebrow at him.
"Students are all gone. Most teachers are gone. Classes are empty." With each sentence, he took a step forward and I took a step backward until my back hit the locker. "Just say it. Say what you want."
"I don't want anything." My face contorted into a little frown.
"Lies." He slammed his hand on the locker, making me flinch. "You want just what every other girl want. Just ask and I might just help you live through your fantasy."
Slowly it registered.
I scoffed, pushing him back. "You think I want sex from you? Gee, thanks."
His eyes flickered through mine. "Are you playing hard to get, Uriel?" He slammed my back to the wall again, his hands on my shoulder. "I'm saying you can have me."
"And I'm saying that I don't give two shit about you." I spat scornfully, eyeing him in disgust as I pushed him with my last strength.
I couldn't believe I waited just to hear insinuate that I'm playing hard to get so I can win him to bed.
I wasn't even interested in that hot, banging body of his.
Sorry... In him. Yeah, not interested in him.
That was what I was going to say.
"Just so you know, I stayed back so I could thank you for having my back in there. I also wanted to thank you for taking the fall for both of us." With that, I turned around to leave.
"Uriel." His voice was loud and authoritative, it made me actually halt. "Don't flatter yourself."
I turned to face him, raising my eyebrow at him. "Huh?"
"Whatever I did wasn't for you. I only did it because I don't like involving people in my damn business." He eyed me up and down when he stopped in front of me. Then he leaned down to my ear, whispering, "so stay away from my business."
"I don't even know why I try with you." I shoved past him, frowning.
The minute I opened the door to the hallway, the rain grew heavy - too heavy to walk under.
Ryder ignored me, walking past me as he ran under the rain. I watched as he entered into his car, driving off.
Typical.
Sighing weakly, I searched for my phone in my bag. Then I remembered that it was still with my mother.
Fuck me.
Now I had to wait for the rain to stop and trek home because I didn't even have a dime on me.
Yay.
Sighing, I looked up to the sky, praying for some sort of good Samaritan and then I heard a car honk.
Ryder leaned forward, "Get inside. I'll drop you off."
Acting like I wasn't seeing or hearing anybody, I folded my arms.
"Uriel!"
"Go away, I don't need your help to get home." Frowning I said.
He rolled up his window, giving up so fast. Or I thought he did.
He threw his door open, marching until he got to me. With ease, he grabbed me off the floor.
"Drop me down! Ryder!" I yelled, hitting his chest. Please don't listen to me.
After he had tucked me inside his car, he turned around and entered inside, his cloth badly soaked.
All because of me.
"You didn't have to come back for me." I told him, my voice small.
He didn't say anything as he turned on the heater, increasing the low music.
Right.
He would glance at me from time to time as I bobbed my legs up and down. Though I was beginning to get warm but I just couldn't shake off the cold from anticipating my mum's yell.
The bold clock that seemed affixed to the car, didn't even help me as it ticked.
5:20 PM
What was I thinking?
"Are you good?" Ryder asked, stopping the song.
"Y...yeah!" I nodded, my voice breathless.
No
"You keep doing that. It's distracting." He placed his hand on my knee, making me stop bouncing it.
My eyes moved slowly to his that were already on me. My heart that was beating fast, slowed down it's tempo.
"You have curfew?" He glanced back to the road, forgetting to take his hand with him. Not like I was complaining though.
"Yeah. I mean, no. I mean, nevermind." I shook my head at myself, embarrassed.
I was making a fool out of myself.
Being this close to him made me nervous.
"Okay."
He pulled his hand away but then I noticed that his speedometer increased.
Was he mad?
I held the seatbelt tight, as if it was going to save me from him. He was trying to kill us!
Or just me.
"I... I'll stop here." I told him when we got to the start of my street. I didn't want him dropping me at the house.
I didn't want to make things grave for myself.
"Okay." He stepped on the brake, the car jerking forward, almost throwing me out through the windscreen.
Hurriedly, I thanked him and rushed out. As usual, he didn't answer me.
Rolling my eyes, I waited for him to drive off. Seeing that he was reversing, I began to walk away.
Spending any more minute there would land me in much more trouble anyway.
My hand trembled as I knocked on the door. Emma was the one who opened the door for me, smirking.
"Hey Mum! Look who wasn't in her room all along."
I shut my eyes, waiting for the drama
"Uriel? You, again?" My mother showed up, eyeing me in disgust. "You know, you're one hell of a stubborn brat." She clutched my shirt, her grip tight.
Before she could drag me inside, a voice boomed from behind me.
A voice I knew.
No.
"Hey Mrs. Kennedy."
My mother released me immediately, eyeing him up and down.
"Who are you?"
Emma poked her head around mother, her eyes growing wide when she saw him.
"I'm Ryder Connell. I'm with Uriel."
Excuse you?
That's it guys. I'm dead.
