Chapter 112: June

Soraya

“Evander, are you listening to me at all?”

I’d been ranting for more than thirty minutes, telling him about the fact that I have a friend—which felt awkward to say, actually. I had a friend.

All his attention was on the papers in front of him, and all I wanted was for my man to pay attention to me.

He lifted his head up. “You’re being bratty.”

I smiled and walked towards him slowly. “Don’t you like me when I’m a brat?”

“Of course I do,” he said, biting the bottom of his lip. He had this seductive look in his eyes and, oh, it drove me insane.

“Come over here,” he said, opening his arms for me.

I quickly hopped onto his lap.

“So what were you saying? I’m all yours now.”

“Are you sure?”

He nodded.

“Are you done with work?”

“Maybe. But I want to listen to you.”

“Okay, so I have a friend.”

His expression dropped almost immediately. “A friend?”

“Yeah. She is so nice and she is so funny. And she knows—”

“Knows what exactly?”

“She knows that everyone thinks I’m a monster and she still likes me.”

“Do you think that about yourself?”

I paused, feeling the excitement I had slowly leave my body.

“It’s not about me, Evander. It’s about the fact that I have a friend.”

“I love that for you. I really do. So, would you like to introduce me to your friend?”

I smiled wider. “Would you like to meet my friend?”

“Of course. I would like to be present in every aspect of your life. And this is the first time you’re having a true friend. And yeah, I would love to meet her—if she doesn’t mind, of course.”

I got off his lap quickly.

“I’ll go get her.”

I walked out of his office so fast, excited. I’m going to introduce her.

That was when I realized I didn’t even know her name or where exactly I was going to find her out of hundreds of students in this school.

And what the hell was I thinking? Would she actually want me to introduce her? Why was I going too fast?

You know what? You are overthinking it. I told myself. Everything is fine. Stop overthinking things. You’re fine. Everything is perfectly fine.

I kept walking anyways, trying to calm myself and trying my best to stop overthinking things. Everything was going to be fine, and I was introducing my friend to my mate. Why did that have to be a big deal? I ran a hand through my hair, then I stopped.

What if she was only being nice? What if it was all pretend? I was so confused.

You know what? Screw it.

I walked to the library, the only place I hoped she would be in because I didn’t know her name or her room. As I made my way to the library, I kept rehearsing exactly what I was going to say to her if I actually saw her.

“My mate would like to meet you.” No, that sounded weird.

“I would like to introduce you to somebody.” Wouldn’t that be too fast? Would she think I was too fast?

Oh my God. Maybe I was better off not even having friends.

I had no idea when I got to the library. I was just there, standing at the doorway. The library was quiet and empty. I hoped she would be by a corner, but as I moved by the shelves, I couldn’t see anyone. I felt so disappointed.

That was when I walked to the further end and there she was, a big-ass book in her hand, her entire concentration on it.

I walked to where she sat and I just stood there without a single freaking word. I just stood awkwardly.

“Hi, Soraya,” she said when she lifted her gaze from the book.

“Hi,” I said with a small, awkward wave. “How are you doing? Would you like to meet someone?” I blurted it out before I could stop myself or convince myself not to say it.

“Who?” She smiled.

“My mate.”

Immediately, her face lit up with excitement.

“Alpha Evander.”

I nodded. She stood up slowly. “Okay, so can we go?”

“Wait, you actually want to meet him?”

“Of course. Who wouldn’t want to? He is an all-powerful alpha and I’m not going to lie to you, I have been trying to get his attention, but he’s too serious.”

“Wait—get his attention? Why?”

“I don’t know, but he is way too serious.”

“No, he’s not.”

“Yes, he is.”

“No, he’s not.”

“Yes, he is.”

“You’re only saying that because he’s your mate? You know him better than any other person. I’ve actually admired him from afar. He is a supreme alpha and his kind is very rare. So I want to study him.”

I laughed out loud.

“You want to study what?”

“Him.”

"I actually told him I made a friend. Hope that doesn’t sound awkward."

“Why would it?” she said, looking at me. “We are friends, aren’t we?”

“Yes, we are.”

It still felt unreal, and I hoped she wasn’t going to switch up on me.

“You know I don’t actually know your name, right?”

She laughed. “Thought you’d never ask. It’s June.”

“June,” I repeated. “I like the sound of that.”

“So can we go?”

“Of course.” She offered me her hand and I took it without hesitation.

As we stepped outside the library, some of the students in the hallway became more noisy, but I didn’t pay attention to any of that.

“Can you hear what they’re saying?” I asked June, because I really didn’t want to make her as awkward and weird as I am. She was so nice and deserved to have all the friends. I didn’t want people to stop her from being happy because of me.

“Who the hell cares what they’re saying?” she replied. “I’m just excited I’ll finally get to meet Alpha Evander.”

“You know I really like you, June.”

She smiled. “I like you too.”
