Chapter 43 When Death comes calling
Chapter 43 When Death comes calling
Hades
The kiss is slow, passionate. My heart hums from the confession. This is the first time I’ve ever allowed myself to be so vulnerable, to let her know what she means to me even though there’s still a chance I might still lose her.
For all my vulnerable confessions, I still haven’t let her know my true nature, who I really am. I can’t let her know that I’m the Devil or that I’m really here to bring her back to Hell with me. She would lose it. I would lose her.
Daph moans into my mouth, pulling my thoughts out of its recesses. I lean into the kiss, holding her waist as we collapse into the bed. How I’ve missed her. How I’ve longed for her. The taste of her. the feel of her. the scent of her. That unflagging passion she rouses inside me, the way she makes me go bananas.
Slowly, I remove all her clothes while she removes mine. My shirts come off as hers do. My singlet, her panties. Until we are skin-to-skin.
I pull her atop me. “Ride me,” I say. One swift order that lights the naughtiness inside her. She smiles as she slides my dick into her pussy, slowly, taking it all in inches, her insides tightening around my throbbing cock. From my position, I can see her pale breasts and hardened nipples. My hands move from her waist to her breasts and back.
She grinds on me, knees to the bed, moving to slow rhythm to find her bearing first. Then, her rhythm intensifies once she becomes more confident. She bounces on me fiercely, her ass slapping against my thigh. The bed shakes. Our moans come out with a charged urgency.
She holds my attention like a fucking seductress. I am pulled into her web, held prisoner there. I don’t want it to ever stop. So when her pace slows, I take over, thrusting upward, burying my cock deep into her.
Our orgasm hit at the same time: mine violent and wild, hers restrained and sweet. She shakes, her legs quaking as she falls atop my chest. I hold her by the head, keeping her steady until she calms down. Our lower body parts are glued together by the sweet nasty stickiness of sweat and cum.
“Fuck, I missed you,” she murmurs into my skin. I kiss her forehead.
“I missed you too. You have no idea. You fucking scared me, Daphne. Don’t ever do that.”
She glances up with a teasing expression on her face. “Do what?”
“Don’t ever scare me like that again! Don’t run away from me. I go crazy when I am not close to you. I am worried about you.”
She climbs off me. “I am a big girl. You don’t need to worry about me.”
I shake my head at her. If only she knows….
“I’m sure you are but still, I want to keep an eye on you.”
“You are such a stalker,” she slaps my upper arm.
Soon, she falls asleep. Her hair spread all over the pillow in soft, silky waves. I watch her for a while, taking her in. She looks just as beautiful as she always is. In any timeline, in any form, her beauty always shines.
As I am watching her, I feel a sudden change in the atmosphere. My senses triggers as I recognize the familiar danger. I feel it lurking right outside my door, calling for me. For her.
I put on a shirt and head outside. As soon as I open the door, I am hit by an overwhelming sense of déjà vu.
The darkness guides me as I search for it. For him. His presence calls to me. I follow it to the back of the motel near the thick woods.
“Show yourself, Grim Reaper,” I call out impatiently, strictly.
His figure emerges from the darkness. Dark, menacing, carrying his scythe. His face is disfigured, half-covered with the black rope he’s wearing.
“Hades,” he murmurs. His name comes out a whisper, transcending the sound barrier. He bows his head. Can’t look me in the eyes.
“What are you doing here?” I bark impatiently.
As my servant, the grim reaper knows better than to show himself around the woman I love.
“I am here to collect,” he whispers again.
I tense. “To collect what?”
“Her soul.”
If I could die, if I had a heart, it would have stopped beating right there. “No, no, it can’t be. Daphne’s time has not come yet.”
“It is written that she will fall asleep and never wake up tonight.”
Overwhelmed with grief and fury, I pounce on him. Falling into his domain, throwing him backward until we hit the rivers upon which he transports the dead souls to the afterlife.
“No, no, it is not her time yet.”
I tighten my grip around his neck. He merely slips out and reappear behind me.
When I spin around, I see Daphne’s hourglass trinkling to a slow halt. Her sleeping form in the motel appears inside the glass. How beautiful she looks.
“No, it can’t be. It can’t be. She isn’t supposed to die yet. She doesn’t even know the truth about me yet. Do you think she’d still love me in Hell when I tell her that she can’t return to earth again? She’s just in college. It’s too young for her to die now,” I say.
“The fates have declared it. She will die tonight.”
With that, the Grim Reaper vanishes. I am left alone, heartbroken. I vanish into my brother, Michael’s domain. His house in Los Angeles where his human form lives as a famous actor. Michael’s in the kitchen taking a glass of water. Out in the garden, a whole team is setting up a set for his shoot.
He sighs when he feels me. “You can be here, Hades.”
“The Grim Reaper is coming for her tonight,” I confess.
He sips his glass. “Hmm, you should’ve prepared for that. You know this. Every time you chase after her, you shorten her time on earth. You knew this. Maybe this time, she was supposed to die in her freshman year. I feel bad for poor girl.”
“So, you are saying I did this?”
“I’m saying…the only way to save her is to let her go. She’s never going to be yours. You either let her go or you confront the Fates. Make them rewrite your destiny.”
Michael pauses. “What’s it going to be?”
“I’m going to rewrite my destiny!”
