Chapter 9 Chapter Nine
“That’s my plan” I growl as I squeeze a little tighter on Lucas’s throat.
Leilani grabs my chin forcing me to look at her. “Malakai, please stop.” The fear in her eyes is enough for me to release Lucas, making him crash to the floor. I never want to see that fear again, especially not if I am what’s causing it.
Lucas coughs and sputters as he gasps for air. Leilani bends down to check on him, grabbing his arm, making me even more mad than before. “Leilani let’s go; I am here to take you home.” I say emotionless.
“I’m not going anywhere with you.” Leilani snaps, as she continues comforting Lucas.
“Suit yourself.” I say calmly. Leilani narrows her eyes at me in confusion. I throw her over my shoulder and carry her outside to the car. She screams and kicks. “You might as well save your energy; you aren’t going to overpower me.”
“Fuck you, Malakai.” She screams, but her kicking subsides. I chuckle to myself.
I set her down in the passenger seat and reach for her seatbelt. “I can buckle myself.” She snaps.
Shaking my head in amusement, I climb into the driver’s side and head to her house. Tiberius will be happy to know I found her.
The drive to the alphas house seems longer than usual. My nerves are starting to get the better of me. Will Tiberius be relieved I found his daughter? Or will he only care that I lost her to begin with?
Once were stopped in front of the house Leilani jumps out and heads inside. I follow close behind. “Where the hell were you, young lady?” Tiberius roars in his alpha voice, allowing me to hear him before entering the house.
Taking a deep breath in anticipation of what’s to come I slowly walk through the door. Leilani is crying, I want nothing more than to comfort her. Now is not the time for that. Tiberius fixes me with a glare.
“Well, are you going to answer, or should I ask Malakai?” Tiberius asks in a slightly quieter voice.
Leilani shakes her head. “I was at Lucas’s house. I went for a run.”
“And I suppose, those are Lucas’s clothes too? What happened to your beautiful green dress you were wearing this morning?” Tiberius pauses waiting for an answer. His eyes turn black as night “Did he touch you? I swear to God, I will kill him, Leilani.”
I hold my breath afraid of hearing something I can’t handle. “No dad. Why do you and Malakai keep trying to kill people today. He didn’t touch me.” I exhale loudly. “I went for a run didn’t have any clothes, and I knew Lucas lived nearby. He let me take a shower to warm up and gave me some clothes to wear. Nothing else.” Leilani looks down at the ground. She hates disappointing her father, or anyone really.
Tiberius takes a few deep breaths. “Why did you run out of the cabin? You had me and Malakai worried sick all day. We were about to call the pack protectors to come find you.”
Leilani looks down playing with her fingers. “I was just upset, I needed to run to clean my mind.”
“What were you so upset about that you couldn’t tell anyone where you were going?” Her dad asks in an almost normal voice.
Leilani shifts uncomfortably from foot to foot. Is she going to tell her dad that I kissed her, and it’s my fault she ran away to begin with?
“It’s nothing dad. I just wanted fresh air okay.” She glances at me, I remain expressionless. I wish I could just wrap her in my arms and make this all go away.
Her dad sighs loudly. “It’s not okay. From now until I change my mind you are grounded. You will not leave this house without myself or Malakai with you. Do you understand me?”
Leilani groans. “Why dad?”
“Because right now you have lost my trust. Now go to your room, Malakai and I need to talk.”
Leilani goes to say something else, but her father fixes her with a scowl. She stomps up the stairs and slams the door. Tiberius chuckles. “Teenagers and their attitudes. It’s enough to make someone go crazy.”
I laugh. “You got that right Tiberius. I’m so sorry about today. I promise it will never happen again.”
Tiberius shakes his head. “I know it won’t. There is only one more day of school before winter break, since Leilani missed today there is no need for her to go tomorrow. I have pack business to attend to tomorrow, will you stay and watch her. She is not to leave this house.”
I shake my head to show I understand. “Sir there is some pack business the Pack Protectors wanted me to talk to you about.”
Tiberius furrows his brow. “Let’s talk in my office.” I follow his lead as we head to the second floor. His office is at the end of the long hallway. We pass Leilani’s room and I inhale deeply, breathing her sweet smell of vanilla. We head into his office. There is a large desk with a couple of chairs, and a few bookcases filled with pack files, and maps. Closing the door behind me I sit in the chair across from him.
\-Leilani's POV-
Why does my father keep pushing Malakai on me. Now he is going to babysit me? If he knew Malakai was my mate, he wouldn’t have him babysitting me. I would never get to see him again either. That would devastate me. Placing a pillow over my face I scream in frustration. Why does this have to be happening. I finally get what I want. Malakai is my mate, but I can’t have him.
Two pairs of footsteps pass by my room. My father and Malakai must be heading to the office. The second set of footsteps pauses briefly at my door. I listen closely, as they take a deep breath. What is he doing? The door at the end of the hall closes and I sneak out of my room to eavesdrop.
Leaning close to the door I hear them laughing and referring to territory line. Dad better not be planning to expand, nothing good ever comes from expansion. I hear dad ask for Malakai’s opinion. He better tell dad it’s not a good idea, he knows how strongly against it I am. Malakai speaks softly “I think we should just leave it be Tiberius, no need in unnecessary wars. We have plenty of land.” I let out a sigh of relief.
“Leilani, are you eavesdropping again?” My father asks. Shit. I run back to my room and quietly shut the door. Throwing myself on the bed, I look around for something to do. I feel like I’m on house arrest.
