Chapter 67
Emeralds POV
I practiced all day when I got home Friday with just the napkin trying to get it to go faster and faster. It eventually did. It took me some practice but eventually I was able to get it to soar through the air. Then land when I wanted it to at my command. I was so proud of myself. I was able to do it with just my thoughts. I didn’t have to have my hands out or point at it or nothing. I just thought about it and it happened.
Jeremy was so proud of me too. He started me once I figured out the whole napkin moving back and forth. He then wanted me to start working on the pen. He decided to have start working on the light weight objects first. Then move on to the slightly heavier objects. The pen again took a while to move, even in the slightest way.
I sighed but he reassured me that maybe for each item because it’s new that it would take a minute to do.
On Saturday we decided to work on it before going to lunch. I cleaned up pretty good wearing a deep purple dress that hung to my knees with an empire waist sparkle belt. I put on matching deep purple flats and did minimal make up. I threw my hair up in a messy bun and was ready to go. I worked on moving the pen all morning until 30 minutes to noon. Jeremy had come in to the shed. “Hey you ready to go?”
“Yeah.” I said as I looked him over. He wore a nice button down long sleeved black shirt with black dress pants and black dress shoes. He brushed his hair even though I knew it was going to be messed up in a couple minutes anyway. He also had an earring that was shaped like a black baseball mitt.
“You might want to quit staring at me like that or we are never going to be able to leave.” He said.
I giggled, “Sorry.”
I stood up and followed him out even as he rolled his eyes at me.
He held out my black sweater to me and helped me put it on. Then he grabbed his coat since it was definitely cooler today and we left with him driving to the restaurant.
I was quiet on our way. I was just thinking things over and trying to figure out my thoughts and he knew that I needed time to think.
I made my way into the restaurant and I see that both of my parents were already seated at the table. I sighed trying not to be too upset over anything. I tried to give everyone the benefit of the doubt and not jump to conclusions. I sat down after Jeremy pulled out my seat for me. He sat and he held my hand quietly as we ordered our drinks.
I stared at the two of them. My dad was in his normal khakis and a green polo and sunglasses, while my mom was in a matching green dress and shoes. Her hair was in a clip at the back of her head and she also had minimal make up on.
“Emmy, I again want to apologize for everything that I had kept hidden from you over the years.” Said my dad.
“Thank you.” I said.
“So I don’t know if you follow the news or any kind of magazines or anything but your mother retired her status as a model.” Said Chad.
“Why?” I asked curiously.
“I retired because I wanted to get to know you and spend more time with you. I also wanted to make things right.” Topaz said speaking for herself.
“Hmph.” I mumbled staring at the menu.
“I also told your father as well as admitting it to the media that the child you had seen me with was not my own. I was wrapped up in something that I was struggling to get out of on my own. But with the support of your father I was able to get myself out of that situation as well as start fresh, start over.” She explained.
“Uh huh.” I said listening but still staring at my menu.
“So I was wondering if we can start over? I do apologize for the way I acted when we first met. I was definitely nervous and was shocked to see you. I haven’t seen you since you were little.” She said.
“And whose fault was that?” I asked.
“Emmy.” Said my dad in a tone.
“It’s okay.” My mom said laying a hand on his arm. “I deserved that.”
The waitress came and we ordered lunch.
After she left my mom said, “Will you let me explain?”
I shrugged.
“You have to understand the way I grew up is very upsetting. When I was little my parents signed me up for so many pageants since I was born. Then put me in beauty pageants after they saw that I had won and was making them money. None of that money went to me in a trust fund or anything. They used it for their own means and purposes. Basically buying them nice things from fancy cars to a fancy house and everything in between. They basically used my money to pay for their lavish lifestyle. Obviously I had my own room and was raised in a fancy household. They even hired maids, butlers and chauffeurs to do their bidding so they didn’t have to raise me basically. They could go out whenever they wanted. They didn’t have to watch me ever. Eventually as I got older into my teen years they saw I wasn’t getting much taller and to be a model in that day and age you usually had to be tall. My parents were able to pull some strings though with CEO’s and owners of companies and tell them that with my particular looks they weren’t something you see everyday. So they were able to get me even as young as 16 was able to get me to model for clothing companies.” Topaz explained.
“Basically your parents were not good people?” I asked as I folded my hands under my chin staring at her.
“They weren’t, at all. If I didn’t come in first place. I would get hit. Not in normal places that could harm my so called perfect face or anything but hard enough in spots that they would leave marks or welts. Then if it slightly showed in a spot that would possibly be seen it was covered up with make up. The people we had working for us at the time I don’t know if they ever really knew what I had gone through. If they did they didn’t say anything or acknowledged it. But with the money I was bringing in they could have just paid them off for all I knew.” Topaz explained.
“Geez, what parents.” I said melting a little but for her because now that I did feel bad over. “So basically my grandparents were rude, mean and were abusers?”
“Yes to a degree. So I never originally wanted to bring a child up in that life. I never wanted to have a child of my own because I was terrified. I was so scared that if I had a child I would be the same way with them as my parents were with me. I was scared. I mean how could I not know I would be the same way if those were my parents and I was cut from the same cloth, the same mold. I didn’t want to put that on my kid ever so I just decided at a young age that I never wanted any.” She explained sadly.
“So you were scared to have a kid because you thought you would be the same way?” I asked tilting my head to look at her. She seemed like she was being very honest and telling the truth.
So I decided to believe her from this point on.
