Chapter 62 62

Chapter 62 62
Phoebe~~

Days had passed, and during the weekend, the princess came over to pick me up so we could head to the clan's library.

As we reached and were given a ticket which we used to go in, my lips widened in shock as I darted my eyes around to the piles of books on the shelves. They were all neatly packed without dust, and people were all seated, walking around, and some were standing at a place.

I reached towards the princess and asked her, “So, do you mean it's very possible to find what happened in the past here? Who could have written such?”

“There are journalists, and it's their job,” she answered, and we fastened our steps. “We need to be fast, because I'm going to an event tonight with my mate,” she added, and I nodded. “Have you heard of Alpha Knox and how brutal he is?”

I sighed and shook my head. How would I know when I was in a library?

“You would read about it too, how many packs he's burnt to ashes, even the lycan clans that he dealt with. But one thing was sure…” she paused and picked up a sheet of paper that was on her foot, then continued. “Alpha Knox doesn't attack innocent people.”

I raised my lashes. Does she mean that my pack was guilty? For what? We had no business with his pack and were even scared of him. Could it be because my father was acquainted with the other alphas who wanted him dead? No doubt, that could be the reason, because aside from that, I saw no other reason.

“He was one man that I wanted to meet. Even my father wanted to see what he looked like because he was brave enough. He became a hero for some people, especially the warriors who admired how he fought packs and won. He had so many resources that even my father got some time ago and is even planning to acquire more before his demise.”

I thought I was hearing things. How could someone and their family be praising a man who cost the lives of innocent people? He was a hero? Who made him one?

“Sometime ago, when I asked my dad why Alpha Knox does that to packs and isn't even visible to people. Guess his response…” she said, and I lowered my face.

I thought, and the only thing I could come up with was his curse, so I answered her, “He was cursed…”

She shook her head. “I've never heard that someone could be cursed, which could lead them to take lives,” she uttered, and we continued walking. It was kinda odd that the library was so huge that we hadn't even come to the end of the way we took. “Well, my dad responded that they made him that way, and I still can't fathom who made him that way. That's why I'm here…”

What a confusion!

How could someone make someone take lives? Like the princess said, being cursed couldn't be the reason, so there was certainly something or someone behind it, which I was also interested in.

Together, we entered into another huge room covered in books and shelves. I hated visiting the library, so there was no way to even know if we had a library in my lost pack or Knox’s pack.

“This room has to do with just history, so let's begin.” She cheered me up, and we began searching through what we came for.

An hour elapsed, and due to how huge the room was, we had yet to find anything that had to do with Knox. But a man who recognised the princess and seemed to be a librarian approached her and bowed respectfully.

“It's nice having you here today,” the man mentioned with a broad smile, and the princess, always cheerful, returned his gesture. “My princess, are you searching for a particular book?”

She nodded, “Do you recall the history about Alpha Knox of the Fearless Keepers Pack?”

The man slowly nodded, as though recalling it gradually. “He's dead!”

“Yes! I want to know about his family.”

“But the books aren't here,” the man responded, and my lips dropped open. “I meant, they aren't to everyone's reach, and the king ordered that it should not be.”

The princess, as though she knew such a thing would take place, opened her purse and brought out a bundle of money, then stretched it towards the man. “We won't act as though we read it. We just want to know if the gossip out there is true so we can be sure if he's a hero or not.”

With a smile, the man took the money and signaled us to follow him.

The princess grabbed my hand, and we immediately followed the man into an inner room where no one would even think. Right there, he brought out all the books that had to do with the incident and placed them on the table before us.

“As it stands, I'm the only one who has the key to this room. So, I'm going to lock it up to avoid someone barging in without my authority.” The librarian explained before leaving. I paid less attention as I was already going through the books.

The princess asked me, her voice laced with concern, “You seem so interested in this than I am.”

I chuckled, “I have to, because he's a werewolf like I am. I felt so ashamed when I didn't know about him.”

I searched about three books, and they were only talking about how savage he had been and the packs he had attacked, including mine. But, there was no history as to why he did so to my pack, so I thought to find the main one who could tell why the lycan king said that to his daughter.

The princess slammed a book on the table aggressively, and when I looked at her, she seemed to have read about it already. I quickly shifted the other books I've been through and asked her, “Did you find it?”

She nodded, her face so dull.

“What did it say?” I asked again, and instead, she shoved the book towards me. “I should read for myself?” She nodded to my question, and I just hated how she was acting mute suddenly.

A lump rose to my throat, and I found myself so nervous to find out what happened. Could it be because of the princess's reaction? What could the response be that was so heavy to her lips?

I flipped the first and second pages only to sneeze out twice. I wiped my eyes, ready to begin my journey again, and I sneezed the second time.

I raised my face, and was stunned to see the princess red already, as though she couldn't breathe. That was when I felt the heat of a fire on my leg and jerked up.

‘What is happening just now? I can inhale strong gas.’ my wolf uttered, and I quickly grabbed the princess, who was fighting to stand. ‘Tell her to sneeze it out…’

“Sneeze it out!!” I yelled at her, and she did so forcefully, taking a deep breath.

My gaze went back to the fire again, and it was spreading faster towards us. That was when I recalled that the door was locked on us.
